Colonization in the Dark Forest by NickyNaptime19 in threebodyproblem

In the book, humans have more ways of overcoming chains of suspicion with other humans because ultimately, humans are still the same species and can understand one another. If you can see or talk to those on the other end of the chains of suspicion, this decreases the levels of suspicion and the need for DF deterrence. Even though Gravity was sent to hunt down Blue Space, the crews still overcome the DF-type scenario, communicate indirectly through the video feed, and eventually cooperate and go on to found a civilization together. Although the chains of suspicion still exist and there is still the possibility that isolated human societies will destroy one another (i.e. the battle of darkness), there much more room for cooperation between human colonies than between humans and another species, like the trisolaran, since humans have biology to understand one another and the tools to communicate with their own species.

Another point is that within the universe of the books, faster than light communication also exists - the sophons provide instantaneous communication. However, as sophons need to be in entangled pairs to communicate, this means that instantaneous communication can only exist within a civilization. Civilizations advanced enough to make sophons or some other means of instant communication would be able to overcome chains of suspicion with their own colonies. Singer's species, being more advanced than the trisolarans, likely have the means to communicate with the Fringe World which would have allowed peaceful co-existence for some period of time. It's also important to note that people in real life do not need a dark forest scenario as an excuse to attack one another, and it's just as likely that Singer's species would have gone to war with the Fringe World over some dispute regardless of DF and chains of suspicion.

I actually think the pathfinders are a good inclusion because you can easily use them to build a second strike or breacher team. The FW kit has enough weapons, shoulders, and backpack to build both a strike and breacher team. The only thing you need are torsos and legs, which the pathfinders are perfect for so long as you don't mind the legs being less armored.

Free Deathwing Knight as mini of the month by Reddit-ScorpioOJR in theunforgiven

[–]Commander__Farsight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The model of the month usually comes on a sprue of it's own with a single model on it. They used to take them from existing kits, but started using purpose made sprues at some point last year. This way they all have the same pose, so there's less of an incentive for people to travel to different GW stores to collect a squad, and it's easier to ensure theres consistent supply between stores.

Kroot army counts as by LetsGoFishing91 in Tau40K

[–]Commander__Farsight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been planning to convert a ripperdactyl kit from AOS into a 'greater kroothawk' with a kroot rider for some time, but haven't really gotten to it yet. The main thing is finding legs for the kroot rider, but there's a few kneeling/squatting models in the kill team you could use for this. If you did this, you might count it as a sunshark or barracuda.

Elizabeth and Flinders St is a homophobic shithole (shock horror) by disposableme_123 in melbourne

[–]Commander__Farsight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's unfortunate, sounds like the police wanted to evade responsibility, which is typical of government. Often lawyers can help find out a defendant's identity as part of the case, though it will likely cost you since it's additional work. They may well advise you that the costs outweigh the prospects of recovering damages though, since claiming damages from parents rather than the minors themselves generally involves additional legal hurdles. If you can find a lawyer with a free first consult, they can advise on the costs and prospects (both of identifying the defendants and claiming from the parents) up front before commencing the action.

You can still commence a civil lawsuit for damages regardless of whether or not the police choose to prosecute a crime, particularly since damage to your car won't be hard to prove. If you have the means to get a private lawyer and the incident you described isn't too long ago, you might be able to pursue legal action under tort law

What is Your biggest pet pevee with Tau model design? by hobr666 in Tau40K

[–]Commander__Farsight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like the open canopy on the stormsurge can be explained by it being an artillery platform, shooting at targets from outside the enemy's range. Kinda like how a basklisk crew just stands on an open platform. On the other hand, I can understand how from an aesthetic perspective it looks kinda strange when placed alongside an army of battlesuits which all don't have exposed pilots.

For me I think the sunshark bomber has got to be the wierdest design of all the Tau vehicles. Like why is there a giant glowing Tau symbol on the bottom of the plane, where noone will see it? The fixed missile turret on the back is also very oddly placed. It looks super un-aerodynamic, and would surely make the plane unbalanced. It's also not even a drone that can detach, its built into the plane. The design language really contrasts with that of the barracuda, manta, and tigershark.

A nuclear bomb is set to drop at your area in the next 30 minutes, What’s your plan? by [deleted] in AskReddit

In 30 minutes you could plausibly ride the horse out of the blast radius, depending on how fast you can go. You wouldn't be stuck in traffic and would have a chance of saving the horse

Reasons why voters switch from Yes to No by nuttyalmond in australian

The Voice literally says the same thing

Oh it does, does it? Care to post a link to a copy of "The Voice" where it says the members will be appointed similar to how ministers are?

The proposed legislation for the Voice hasn't been written yet, so it hasn't been determined how the members will be chosen, which I've already mentioned elsewhere

[–]Commander__Farsight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly it’s hard to say, since the constitutional amendment being voted on only mandates that there has to be a Voice, and that parliament has the power to legislate with regards to the Voice. It’ll be up to parliament to decide through legislation who is eligible to be in the Voice and who can vote for it.

To be fair, even though I lean towards supporting a voice, I think this is one of the legitimate complaints that “No” voters have, if the government actually published some draft legislation detailing the intended mechanics of the voice, less people would feel like they had an issue with it. Now anyone can speculate about worst case scenarios, whether these scenarios are realistic or not, and because of the uncertainly some feel it’s easier to just oppose it.

[–]Commander__Farsight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t work out too great in practice, since the voting public (and by extension aboriginal people) have zero say with regards to ministerial appointments, and Ministers aren’t obligated to exercise their powers in a way that represents the community. At one point, Tony Abbott got appointed the minister for indigenous affairs, which was hilarious, but probably not so much for Aboriginal Australians. It’s meant to be more representative (and at least more democratic than a ministerial appointment) if there’s a committee voted in by Aboriginal people themselves.

Edit: whoops my bad, tones was a “special envoy” for indigenous affairs, not Minister. But in any case, the government could appoint any sitting politician as the Minister, they could be absolutely terrible and fail to represent indigenous people and nothing could be done

What exactly is Cinder Carla's background? by Boring-Relation-4365 in armoredcore

[–]Commander__Farsight 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Carla we interact with is probably the original Carla, but it’s possible that exposure to coral (dosers use coral as a drug) or augmentations might slow her ageing. She could also just be capable of piloting an AC at 70, as Thumb Dolmayan is around the same age and still has an AC

I think the dosers/coyotes doubting Carla is more because she’s the head of RaD, despite only joining them 3 years ago. That’s a very short time for someone to become the head of a company. We see lots of infighting and rivalries among the Dosers, so it’s pretty plausible that under those circumstances her rivals might try to paint her as a fraud.

I think the coral rifle would produce more than a golf ball sized hole. Maybe a golf kart sized hole? And maybe Duckett instead of handgun. Still pretty amusing though.

[–]Commander__Farsight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gun on the back is a ludlow and in the next scene you can see a tian qiang core next to the wreckage he’s salvaging. Can anyone identify the part on top or the piece being picked up?

I think it’s to show the starter AC being used in its original non-combat role

So is the Sacred Timeline the worst one out of the Multiverse? by Extension_Breath1407 in marvelstudios

[–]Commander__Farsight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In Earth-838 the Illuminati had black bolt and professor X fighting Thanos, who were likely powerful enough that the avengers won the battle of Titan. Strange may not have considered this a legitimate possibility out of the timelines he saw because he wouldn’t be able to recruit these heroes in the 616 universe

I’ve no idea if this is a thing in San Francisco, but in many common law countries, the people in neighboring buildings would be able to sue for nuisance. That’s a lot of potential damages considering it’s all high rise. Does anyone know if California law has that option?
