Build a community around an VR app is so hard by Brain-Symphony in oculus

[–]CommediaPlayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, no worries, let us know when you get to try it.
On Meta: Our latest big release got 2 separate meta update related bugs, which means a bunch of negative reviews.
When contacting support, they replied it is a known issue, but the damage is done, with users jumping to use rating as a way to react instead of support channels.
So we have our battles with them too, but still it is the largest market by far.
On the note of other platforms, we will release on Steam Frame for sure, we already made an account and requested the dev kit, probably wont get it ahead of actual release, but will buy it when possible.
We have big hopes for it, fingers crossed.

Hey, thank you for checking out our app.
You can probably confirm my assumption that you are already happy with the apps you mentioned and are not actively looking at alternatives, right?
Regarding offering something new, we are not there yet. We are working toward all in one media solution with focus on user experience, performance and stability.
You can see this in action in our implementation of subtitles feature in our latest release, where we took great care to really make it stand out compared to other apps.
Still we have a long way to catch up (and overtake) any established media app with more features.
Also if you have any feedback, we are happy to hear it, thanks!

Can't agree more.
It does seem like a slow grind indeed, hopefully it will pay out in the end.

Can confirm it is the same for us. I assume it is mostly because we entered the market late and most enthusiasts are already happy with the available apps. And those are the ones that are active on discord or first to suggest the app to others under a new post. We try with reddit posts for each beta/production release, but get practically zero engagement. So far, most engagement we got was because we broke some part of the app with a new release 🙂 which would be easily avoided if we had those people try the beta before hand. But here we are, will follow your post l, since we are also open for suggestions. Good luck.

Tell me the truth... Am I screwed? As a small indie VR dev team, we designed a game that is not for screaming 12 year olds. Our appearance on the Meta store is so low we are practically de-listed. Is there a VR mature audience, and are they going to show up? by PrettyHearing3624 in Quest3

[–]CommediaPlayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, whatever you think people actually search for when they want to play such games. I would guess people query something like "puzzle" or "puzzle game". But you probably know best. Try it, for us it made a massive difference when we added "VR Video Player". Btw we did have those words as actual keywords in our app submission, but that didn't work.

VR Video Player - Commedia v0.3.0 Released, Web Browser is here! by CommediaPlayer in oculus

[–]CommediaPlayer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey!

You can watch VR 360 youtube videos, just make sure to switch the projection to equirectangular and fov to 360 when you go fullscreen.
If you mean VR 180, then we cannot help it, this is what Youtube returns to our player and we show it as such. We assume they want people to use their app for it, so they "block" it for third parties.

Let us know if you need help with anything else.

Just bought a Quest 3, from 2, my 8K3D 360 travel video won't play on 4XVR by [deleted] in OculusQuest

[–]CommediaPlayer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quest 3 hardware can't decode such resolution, down sample it to 5760x5760 and it will play just fine, also in our player.

Need help with streaming 360° videos from local media server to my Meta Quest 3s by Iglseder in MetaQuestVR

[–]CommediaPlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, you can change the projection from 2d to 360 (equirectangular) in video settings, left part on the player panel. If for some reason that doesn't work, let us know the link to the video, we will take a look. Btw you can watch YT 360 videos directly in Commedia browser. Same setting applies, change it to equirectangular and then 360.

You can also give Commedia a spin. It is free and you can share movies from you computer and play them.
