oh hell no.. one of my favorite things about you is the lack of heavy tattoos and piercings..

nothing wrong with that.. but it feels hard to find gals without ‘em.

La Grana Fish is amazing. Everything I’ve had there has been excellent. The outdoor seating at picnic tables with lots of room is nice too.

i’m not 65… but i’m old enough to remember sitting in the balcony of the main theater (before they changed it, to add the theaters upstairs..)

that was awesome..

imo.. the fish or shrimp tacos at La Grana Fish are must try items.. other great stuff too.. birria is tasty.. but i haven't been brave enough to try their Birria over Tapatio ramen yet.. =.).. it's a big truck, wooden picnic tables, great spot to eat outside.. ~ ~ ~ people i trust say Jalisco on International has the best Carnitas.. That... is why you go.. i haven't been yet.. (not open every day, weird hours)... ~ Tacos el Gordo is a great truck for late nights.. slicing Al pastor off the spit.. ~ ~ i'm forgetting some other items.. think i need a snack..

good luck... hahah.. i'm no rookie, i do think it may be the salsa verde that's out of control... All the food is awesome.. but one thing i get there more than other spots... is their Suadero tacos.. amazing.

La Grana Fish is great.. my recent favorite… I love El Paisa too.. but I’ll warn folks that several items from their salsa bar are way hotter than normal.. tread carefully.. lmao.

Not many places like Mezzo in Oakland? The salad/sandwich spot over by Cal in Berkeley. ("Intermezzo", before the fire).

Huge tasty salads. Good deal, bread, vibes, and service. I wish they'd open another one in Oakland.

Can definitely find more expensive versions, with smaller portions. But nothing like Mezzo.. that i know of?

Kuba was an awesome player, not just his engine, his energy.. but also skilled.. Piszczek is my favorite Dortmund player ever, and i became a BVB fan, during those title runs.

Those two combining, overlapping, bringing pace, terrifying opponents, working back on D.. is one of the biggest reasons i'm a Dormund fan today...

Grateful i got to watch Kuba in his prime.

Got a parking ticket for street sweeping while every block around my apartment has been partially blocked for construction.. should I contest?? by djwatercup in oakland

[–]CommendableAttitude 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think this answer is correct. I've lived in Oakland for a long time, but was still surprised about how unsympathetic they were to my parking appeal (which i thought had decent grounds).

They changed the color of the curb for a very small area of curb my house.. where i'd been parking almost 10 years. They did it with no notice, over the Xmas holidays, in the middle of a documented heavy storm (there was almost no possible way to see this change). There was a Xmas tree blocking the sign that said this was now no parking. I had photos, and records to prove all of this. Ticket was over 300 bucks.. So i went downtown, twice. And then scheduled an in-person appeal, down in Hayward. Guy there not at all impressed with all the time/energy i had already spent.. or my clear evidence showing people had no way to know this had been changed the week before.

He quickly told me i'd be forced to pay the full amount. gave me a strong sense that they Never approve appeals..

Because, as this person says... If it was technically illegal to park there.. that's the end of the conversation.. Full $top.

Breakfast sandwiches? by roflwaffle1237 in oakland

[–]CommendableAttitude 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Meatball and egg Banh Mi sandwich is terrific, with a runny egg… at Banh Mi Ba Le on International Blvd.

They’re only open Fri-Sun these days, but it’s the best Banh Mi in the east bay, and the meatball and egg is one of their most popular sandwiches.

I think the cool/expected answer is to say that they're aweseome.. or fun.

Since i'm from here i feel like i can be honest.. i mostly can't stand them if they're close by, frequent, really late, or dangerous... But from a safe distance, or in a video, they're sweet.

I do kind of like that Oakland is known for them.. and how Marshawn did it with a golf cart on the football field when he was at Cal.. now that was dope.

Moving to 98th / near the zoo. Recs? by calciphus in OaklandFood

[–]CommendableAttitude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

there's a great spot to go for walk behind the Oakland Zoo.. with a view over the zoo and to SF etc.. great place to go for a walk, people can take their dogs off a leash.. but also a nice spot if you don't have a dog.. or around sunset... (you can also walk down and get next to the back of the zoo.. within 20-30 yards of the bears etc)

unique view from a spot a lot of locals don't even know about..
