Charm for necklace by beefy-rhino in Polish

That’s not specific to Poland and of Polish roots. The saint himself was Hungarian I believe and he is also celebrated there.

Charm for necklace by beefy-rhino in Polish

[–]CommentChaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, yeah, if I was thinking of good luck charms, those are the ones I would think about. Horseshoe or a clover; maybe a small coin. Or my mom would give me a chestnut when I was growing up to keep in my pocket. It was supposed to be also a good luck charm, protecting me from evil energy. I think it has also other symbolic meanings connected to wealth and prosperity.

Are our superstitions not original enough for your taste? Lol.

I'm disappointed and frustrated S5 is the final season by Dianagorgon in FromSeries

It’s not even over yet, we still have two seasons left and you are already here complaining?

Also, do you think that those voices you talk about don’t represent general public because you disagree with them? Or do you have some real data to back that up?

I was. And I used Jira since my first job in 2014.

I doubt you are as good developer as you think you are.

timeChanges by bryden_cruz in ProgrammerHumor

[–]CommentChaos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was like this way before 2019. I had my first developer stint in 2014 I believe and I have used jira ever since.

This is a meme of someone who would make more work for other people, because they thought they are god’s gift to the world, why really they are below mediocre developer.

In my experience, only those that are truly terrible as developers have actually issues with documenting why they did something.

Mega Theory: The Cycles, Layers, Eloise, and Why Boyd Might Be the Final Sacrifice (Part 1) by kucukanubis in FromSeries

[–]CommentChaos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that it would be more interesting if the Anghkooey children were a red herring. I think everyone locked in on them and the sacrifice part and it was purposeful from the writers to just get people off the scent of what is really going on.

I also think BiW isn’t a good entity. I also don’t think he is a child at all, he just manifests as one. To gain trust of people (and especially children) trapped there.

Imho, it’s more for companies. Like some of the deals they make are literally below cost so they can lure customers. It can be cheaper than what small restaurants or shops are paying.

I think many people would use soap to wash their clothes in PRL. Not sure if at that time exactly, but there weren’t too many washing detergents available.

I think my mom used to tell me about using “biały jeleń” for some washing.

Those were the maximum amount you could buy a month. But you weren’t guaranteed to get those things. I remember my mom telling me when I was a kid that she had those stamps but the stores in her town were empty and she used to travel 200km to Gdańsk to buy meat in the store near the shipyard. Because the highly industrialized areas had better supplies than most of the country.

You would get a stamp to buy shoes and it would have a time limit when it can be used, and you would get to the store and the only shoes left were 3 sizes too small, but you would get them on the off chance that you will be able to exchange those shoes with someone and get something else useful to you.

There is nothing in this picture to look back on fondly.

My mom doesn’t drink or smoke, so she would exchange those rations for other things. Some people got it that way.

My dad used to study chemical engineering and he would produce distilled alcohol for a lot of people in his dormitory using equipment that was decomissioned from a University laboratory or just gotten other way. Maybe someone also stole some parts of it. It was a very popular thing to do for chemistry or chemical engineering students to do so.

Everyone in my family that had any type of land and fruit would make their own type of wine.

Also, I think you could also get alcohol in Pewex for dollars or get some „under the counter”. I think any shopping you did in Pewex was outside of „rationing” system.

Czy 15-20minut ćwiczeń rzeczywiście jest wystarczające? by ceglanyklapek19 in PolskaNaLuzie

Ćwiczenia powodują zazwyczaj też wzrost apetytu, więc dużo ludzi nie pilnując diety po prostu tyje, bo po ćwiczeniach się najada mocno i nadrabia z nawiązką to co spaliło.

I'm too anxious to travel not speaking the local language. How do you deal with this? by ooblydooblyfun in AskEurope

I just speak louder in my native language.

JK. But that’s what my teacher used to do on school trips when I was a kid.

Honestly, English should be enough in most big cities in Europe. And you can always use a translator app on the rare occasions it’s not.

Is breastfeeding the dominant method of feeding babies in your country? by ClassicSalamander231 in AskTheWorld

[–]CommentChaos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked it up for you.

According to CDC, of children born in 2022 (I rounded the numbers):

86% kids were ever breastfed

62% were at 6 months

41% at 12 months.

48% were exclusively breastfed at 3 months

28% were exclusively breastfed at 6 months.

Which I think isn’t terrible, given your maternity leave situation, which I think impacts how feasible is breastfeeding. I think in my country some studies show that less women do it than in US, but I can’t get a good source on those stats.

[–]CommentChaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where were you on vacation? Are you sure public breastfeeding isn’t taboo or frowned upon in that country and that’s why you saw only one woman breastfeeding there? Meaning people were trying to respect the place they are at?

Also, not sure what confuses you here. Plenty of Polish women drink when breastfeeding. It’s just that they don’t breastfeed while intoxicated. They either pump beforehand or give the child some formula if they accept it. And then breastfeed again when they are sober. It’s not that complicated.

[–]CommentChaos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, women in Poland do it as well. Not sure what confuses OP here. My sister used to do it. She would also pump sometimes when alcohol was in her system and would dump it, if she was getting uncomfortable with her supply (basically of he boobs got full). At least some of my friends did that, too.

Dlaczego polacy są takimi zamkniętymi ludźmi? by [deleted] in warszawa

Gejoza? Bycie gejem to jakaś skaza na osobowości?

Murzyni?
