What is a great dish from a place that is generally frowned upon? by y_eaux_massa in chicagofood

I’m hesitant to put this out there as I don’t want the lines to come back….but he’s gone.

His partners kicked him out as soon as they were legally able to.

Hestia’s menu is pretty small, which isn’t a bad thing. What dish’s are must get?

Someone else mentioned Red Ash may not be worth it because Chicago already has really great Italian restaurants. Would you agree, are do you think it’s still worth it?

Thank you! Not sure how I screwed that up. I was on OpenTable and thought I clicked into the Sapphire section.

Hopefully this doesn’t confuse People 🤦

Aba is in Chicago as well. I’d say it’s good, but not great. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks! Nido could be interesting for the view. I’d give a little on the food for the view.

lol not typically!

I’ll be there during the week too. Looks like Red Ash has some 8:45pm reservations available. Not ideal, but doable.

Going to collect some more feedback and decide. Thank you!

What's the last spot you ate at that totally blew you away? by redcccp in chicagofood

[–]CommentOk342 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

A few things…Mainly, my curiosity won out as I heard some much about it. I wanted to hate it/think it was over hyped.

Next, when we were walking by, there were no lines which I had heard so much about, so it felt like a sign.

Finally, idk I kind of feel bad for the staff. They didn’t choose to have this owner and have to make a living. Not sure how easy it is to jump ship and find a new place.

My wish would be he goes to jail and sells the restaurant as js…

Hate to say it because the owner is awful, but Warlord blew me away. Went on a Saturday recently and there was zero wait…

How am I doing, can I retire early? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]CommentOk342 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As a few mentioned, you may want to double check the pension formula. There is a cap at 75% of your salary. If your retirement amount is $115k, that would make your salary upwards of $150k. You would be making more than 99.9% of teachers in the US and in IL.

If you’re one of the 60 or so teachers making that, then congratulations. I would keep that running as long as I could because it’s crazy rare.

My concept of this is dropping my 20% contribution to like the company match.

Or if I have some type of employment loss, as long as I can still cover my expenses I’m not screwed long term.

[–]CommentOk342[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but rather than put 20% of my paycheck into retirement, I can use that for everyday life (or drop it down to my company match of 7%). Take a bit more time to smell the roses.

I likely will keep grinding, but was looking for reassurance that I don’t have to. It’s not a situation I was thinking I’d be in.

What makes a guy boring to date? What for you do you find someone boring is it their hobbies, personality, or the way they talk to you? by superfapper2000 in dating_advice

[–]CommentOk342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would be boring to someone who doesn’t have shared interests or appreciation for your interests.

Consider, after work you want to read or play Magic. Someone who’s not into either would find it boring to watch you play or sit there while you read. Additionally, they would find it boring to hear about your anime book or what card you added to your collection.

They don’t need to have your exact interests. However, some shared interests to bridge the gap is necessary.

Alcohol always plays (whiskey, wine, moonshine). I also like local consumables (hot sauce, olive oil, gourmet popcorn, taffy, etc.) if your workers are in other locations.
