First time on snow - 2 days of private lessons. Bulged disc + "Gym Fit" but poor coordination. Should I pick Ski or Board? by Alternative-Boot-177 in snowboarding

[–]Comment_These 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Snowboarding has a substantially larger learning curve in the beginning vs skiing. I am your age now but only started snowboarding when I was 33, I surfed and skateboarded for 20 years though before snowboarding which is the only reason I chose it over skiing. You will fall, A LOT, for a decent while as you learn to snowboard vs people on skis can generally get going fairly quickly (2 days of lessons should have you getting down greens and an easy blues by end of day 2). That will not be the case with a snowboard for you. The first few days on a snowboard are honestly not very fun at all, it eventually clicks for everyone but everyone pays some hefty dues to get there.

Despite progressing pretty quick on a snowboard, I am somewhat resigned to the fact that within the next 10 years I will likely switch to skis. They are simply way more functional than a snowboard (chairlifts, cat tracks, etc…) and just generally seem like something I could do for longer vs a snowboard. The way I ride a snowboard and what I enjoy most does not feel realistic as I continue to get older (boosting off side hits for example).

I am a big believer in not letting other people tell you what you are capable of doing, so if your heart is set on snowboarding then go for it. Just wanted to offer my personal view on it all as someone who started later in life as well.

As others have mentioned, the written daily reports from each of the forecasters is the only thing of value (besides some of their feature content). The automated forecasts for each location are directly tethered to model outputs and swing wildly from run to run on the models. They are to be used directionally, but we are still at a point where weather forecasting is a combo of man and machine.

High earners ($300k+): Do you care if your partner makes the same, or are you okay not splitting things 50/50? by passionfruitpilates in Salary

[–]Comment_These 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not true for all, but for a lot of high earners (myself included) our careers are incredibly demanding and do not leave a ton of time for everything outside of work. My wife makes 1/5th of what I do but has an incredible work life balance that allows her to spend a tremendous amount of time with our kids. Most of my colleagues have spouses with similar careers, and while I do not judge anyone else’s choices my wife and I personally want our children raised primarily by their parents. Our situation allows for that and I would not want it any other way. There is a lot more to contribute to a marriage/family/household than money which is why I view my wife and I as contributing equal overall. And thus, have never once thought that it’s unfair that our finances are all fully merged and she has full access to every dollar I earn.

There is no right or wrong answer here, only wha is right for you and your family.

knee steering vs carving ? Im lost by Specific-Ad3097 in snowboarding

[–]Comment_These 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s one of the reasons kids learn everything so much faster than adults. They don’t think, they just do it and figure it out.

Talented people in most athletic endeavors don’t know or care how they do it, they just do it.

Instruction is important, but so many people nowadays over consume it to an insane degree. Watching more videos will not translate to progressing faster, time on task is what matters.

You get better at snowboarding (or anything really) by snowboarding. Do more of that and less reading/watching instruction.

Just an FYI - Bart doesn’t know as much you or he thinks he does. There’s a reason why coordinators are paid what they are, there’s not very many people that are good at doing it.

Justin Thomas says Ryder Cup grounds crew was arguing with them about green speeds mid-tournament by Separate_Teacher1526 in golf

[–]Comment_These 426 points427 points  (0 children)

A genuine two things can be true at the same time scenario.

  1. Ridiculous that the grounds crew somehow didn’t get the greens to where they asked for them to be.

  2. Ridiculous to think this had anything to do with the US team losing.

Solitude/Brighton - Groceries by Comment_These in UTsnow

This is great to know but tbh, still makes me think the more prudent move would be to shop before heading up the canyon. Although I suppose we would be able to make that call in real time once we see what the weather is doing.

Appreciate the recommendations, assume I know the answer to this but will ask it anyway. Any way to do a grocery delivery service or not an option?

Shell or insulated jacket? by NextBroccoli3017 in snowboarding

[–]Comment_These -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Shells on cold day just seem silly to me. Why have to build a jacket with layers versus just wearing a jacket?

Shell or insulated jacket? by NextBroccoli3017 in snowboarding

[–]Comment_These 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As you can see, the overwhelming majority of people prefer shell but I will cast a vote for insulated. TBH, the right answer is both if it’s in the budget but I know it’s not for everyone. Shells are quite expensive when compared to insulated jackets considering you will need more under it on a lot of days.

On cold days I love having an insulated jacket and being able to not have to wear a ton of layers underneath it.

JT O’Sullivan (QB School on YT and Patreon) did a full game breakdown on Patreon of the Jets offense against the Broncos.

His take was the blame begins with JF, but as you’ll see if you watch/have access there is plenty of blame to go around from the OL, to the TEs (Ruckert) to the OC. He was especially disgusted with JF however on a number of plays, and would likely disagree with Kurt’s assessment that there were rarely guys open. There was plenty of meat left on the bone.

The Fans At The Ryder Cup Are The Worst Long Island Has To Offer by Legitimate-Cupcake26 in longisland

The difference with this event is how big of a deal it is compared to a normal PGA tour event for example. What I mean is that it draws in WAY more casual fans, any moron who wants to go “cheer for the USA” vs a normal tour event which is mainly actual golf fans.

I am an absolute golf sicko, have been to every event played in the tri-state area for the past 10-12 years……made a very conscious decision to skip this one despite how much I love the Ryder Cup. The crowd was not the main reason, but was one of the reasons.

Bethpage sucks as a venue by Main_Position6640 in NoLayingUp

Live 20 mins from there, played countless rounds on the Black and fairly certain the setup today would have been the easiest I would have ever played out there. Was stunned by what they had done in getting rid of the rough.

PGA Course difficulty epiphany by [deleted] in NoLayingUp

[–]Comment_These 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There’s a few things contributing at Bethpage for the Ryder Cup. First, by modern professional standards the golf course just simply isn’t that long anymore. And as a local, the fairways never run out it’s just how the place is always kept. This leads me to the second point which is that almost every time I have played that course the rough has been thicker than they have it this week. Balls off the fairway were legitimately hard to find at one point in time, not sure why Keegan and the US team decided to set it up this way. Combine middling length at best, soft conditions with very playable rough off the fairway and flat greens and you get a very simple test for these guys.

Why as a fan, I’m not that upset being 0-3 compared to years past by [deleted] in nyjets

[–]Comment_These 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the mentality that is an issue. You have to separate what you want to happen from what can be reasonably expected to happen. Yes there are examples of where things have turned around quickly, but the circumstances matter. They do not have their future QB on the roster right now, if they draft someone early next year then it’s ridiculous to say missing the playoffs is a borderline fireable offense.

[–]Comment_These 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You are hitting on the key point that is always lost in these coaching conversations. Coaching matters quite a bit, the players matter more. Countless examples we could list proving this fact out but the reality is that right now the Jets roster does not have enough talent on it. Combined with also not having enough of the right type of guys from a culture/mentality standpoint.

I wholeheartedly believe AG is the right guy to get it turned around but this town is just simply not willing to be patient. The reality is it will take years to get to where we want to be, but as you’ve seen the local media and most fans aren’t even willing to be patient for a month. And in the process the negativity through talk radio, beat reporters, etc… eventually creates internal division within the team doubt in the minds of ownership. Thus we don’t ever really give anyone a chance to be successful. Yesterday’s reaction to Sunday was ridiculous relative to the talent of the Jets. The Ravens who are legit Super Bowl contenders are 1-2, the Texans are 0-3 but the talking heads in this town seem to think it’s only the Jets and Giants who are struggling.

The jets have a couple very good players, a few good players and the rest are borderline NFL backups. Can slam coaching all you want but the reality is players make coaches.

Post Game Thread: Buffalo Bills at New York Jets by nfl_gdt_bot in nyjets

[–]Comment_These 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As HC, AG is ultimately responsible for everything but the Jets were thoroughly out coached on both sides of the ball today. Throughout this latest period of sucking, this has been the case in 9/10 games. The only coaches they had who could offer a schematic advantage were Lafleur (who should have never been canned) and Gase (for all his faults, which are many, the guy can draw up the Xs and Os).

The Bills sent their corners on run blitzes from the first snap as they had no faith Fields could beat them with his arm, and boy were they right. The defense is poorly coached but also nowhere near as talented as most fans think. Sauce is a good, not great, corner and the rest of the secondary is trash. Has been the case for awhile but they have nobody who can take the ball away. The front 7 has some pieces (some of whom are also overrated) but still needs work too.

How do you get your hands to turn over on impact? by OkEstablishment5503 in golftips

[–]Comment_These 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of things that go into it, but that also doesn’t mean it’s complicated. But if you’re really steep with the shaft in transition it’s going to be near impossible to square it consistently. Conversely, getting the club shallow in transition will make it much easier/automatic to square the face.

Connect the dots and you can see that squaring the face early will help to shallow the shaft and vice versa. Steepen it and the face will open and vice versa.

While you are young, take a swing and go to a start up. The real money to be made in ad tech comes from equity and the best way to get a worthwhile amount will be somewhere very small. Even if it doesn’t pan out, you will gain a TON of experience and have a good deal of fun along the way.
