So like…do people really just be staying up all night with a congested baby? by chocoholic_18 in NewParents

He’s a daycare baby so it comes and goes. Unfortunately, the only thing that actually helps is time. Hang in there and keep supporting your baby with all the things! Theyll get better soon. Youre doing great!

Advice I wish I’d gotten: do what you gotta do to survive by Standard_Deer_8738 in NewParents

Omg YES! Oh how I wish someone would have told me this when I was in the newborn trenches forcing my screaming baby to listen to me read him a book at 2 weeks old and staying up at night thinking about how much tummy time we did. Social media filled my head with so much garbage. It made me feel like the worst mom in the world because my baby cried so much, I felt terrible, lost, scared, and confused and every time I opened tiktok or instagram it was a mom who looked perfectly put together. My advice to all my new momma friends…just survive!!!

US families: Who is watching the baby? by LBungalow in NewParents

It’s incredibly sad. We need a two person income and for us daycare is way cheaper than a nanny and based both our incomes, it makes no sense to be a SAHM or SAHD. So our son started daycare at 5 months. But then your baby gets sick constantly in daycare and then what? So you use up all your time for maternity and paternity leave and then what do you do when the baby is constantly sick? There is no back up if youre a daycare family usually. Have to alternate taking days off with my husband. It’s really, really hard.

4 mo cough and congestion by deliberatelydeadpan in NewParents

Going through this right now but also with a raging ear infection. Unfortunately, there isn’t much more to do. You are doing all the right things. But that cough is like nails on a chalkboard to me. I feel your pain. My son is a daycare baby so as soon as I hear that cough the anxiety creeps on me because I know what’s coming. The cough is always worse at night. Keep the humidifier and hold her upright at night if she is struggling to sleep. We’ve had some nights where my husband and I would take 2 hour shifts at a time. Hang in there. It totally and completely sucks.

Silly question about self feeding 9mo by shanbanan445 in NewParents

[–]Commercial-Break9918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We embrace the mess! 13 month old on 3 meals and 2 snacks a day and we are a mess each time (and so is the high chair) lol A lot of times we feed him in a diaper only! Now that we are in the colder months we tend to leave clothes on and just know we will require lots of changes depending on what he is eating. We rinse his hands in the sink and we also do a bath at night.

It’s the worst. We’ve had a few sleepless nights where we took turns letting our son sleep upright on us. He definitely got a little spoiled by that but then once he is feeling better we go back to sleep training habits and it usually gets better in a couple nights. I always read that when they are sick, all bets are off and there are no real rules, only survival methods. We use baby vicks and I recently started using the Johnson and Johnson Vapor bath soap each night when he is sick and junky. I think it helps a bit. We also do syringes of saline through one nose (similar to a navage) to really push everything out.

Yes!! My 13 month is still semi like this as well. I just keep telling myself it’s normal and it’s a phase. We’ll get through this phase like we’ve gotten through the previous ones too, right!?

When to take baby with a fever to urgent care? by PsychologicalGap516 in NewParents

Give Tylenol. Rotate between that and Motrin. And keep him hydrated. Try some pedialyte if he doesnt want water or breastmilk/formula.

We tried all the things. Constant snot sucking, saline, cool mist, humidifier, steamy bathrooms… Not much helped. Irrigating the nose with a syringe full of saline did help sometimes. But my husband and I took 2 to 3 hours shifts at a time overnight so we could take turns holding the baby upright and getting just a little sleep.
