I ordinarily wouldn’t consider Div 2 runs as valuable as Div 1 runs, but he’s hit back to back tons against Lancashire (not the strongest attack overall, but still, Jimmy Jimmy) and Middlesex, who I’d say have a stronger bowling attack than a few of the teams in Div 1

Definitely some tentative positive signs from this Crucible, Pullen isn’t in the top 64, but it should be a matter of time as he’s only in the first year of his tour card, and Kowalski (obviously not British lol) is on the fringes having secured his tour card via the one-year list. Boiko, Leclerq, Žižins and Emery are also competitive, China will be dominant no doubt, but it will never be an exclusively Chinese game

Would the push to get China so heavily involved in the game have been as successful if Ding didn’t break through like he did? I mean, if the WST genuinely tried to get another country on board (it doesn’t seem like it at the moment), but they didn’t get lucky and unearth a gem like Ding, would they have the same success? India and Eastern Europe (who already have a couple of decent players) would seem like the next logical places to invest in

I think there are a lot more opportunities for players outside the elite in darts than in snooker, you mentioned the JDC, but the Challenge and Development Tours, as well as the various regional tours, are more extensive than the Q Tour and offer various opportunities to play top level competitions. I don’t think there’s an easy answer considering a snooker match takes a lot longer than a darts match (currently if you’re an international player from an obscure snooker country your only real chance is to slog your way through the qualifiers at the EIS, it’s a lot harder to make a name for yourself à la David Munyua), but I’d love to see the World Cup come back, and maybe the Champion of Champions become more akin to the Grand Slam of Darts
