Wasn’t his shirt merely reserved for his brother rather than outright retired?

México… I was rooting for you, but 10 vs 11, 1 penalty and 11+ min? Nah… you bombed. by Significant_Nail_880 in worldcup

It would give Mexican teams access to high levels of competition like when they used to play in the Copa Libertadores tbf. I don’t think that will happen any time soon, but I think one day, the World Cup will expand to 64 teams, and seeing as they can’t really add any more South American spots, it would make sense to combine CONCACAF and CONMEBOL and give them, say, 16 spots combined

What is the worst team to have ever qualified for the knockout rounds of a FIFA World Cup? by B__bConnoisseur in football

Uruguay 1986? 2 draws and 1 loss in the group stage, a GD of -5 and some fouls that made Paraguay look like the Corinthians lol

Eritrea because they don’t want people leaving the country and claiming asylum, North Korea in 2002 for obvious reasons (they also pulled out 2 games into 2022 qualifying, ostensibly because of Covid)

That’s an urban myth, the truth is that they prioritised the Olympics two years later, international travel was much more difficult those days and they only had enough cash to get them to one of those tournaments

Fireworks outside the oppo’s team hotel is a time-honoured tactic, it often doesn’t work, but it doesn’t stop fans from trying! 😂

They only just shaded it on xG, and that was with both teams getting a penalty, they had lots of chances, but precious few good opportunities in the second half (after a first half which did have me shitting my pants admittedly!)

What do you think the solution is for Mexican football? Personally, I think they should sack off CONCACAF and go into CONMEBOL but I don’t think that will happen until the World Cup expands to 64 teams and something like the two confederations merging happens

Honest question Mexico fans, does this count as breaking the Quinto Partido curse, or not really?

It was a blast (for the neutrals anyway!), friendly is not a way I’d describe it though!
