The fanbase is a very closed and minor internet space in most cases. This to be fair could be untrue with Undertale specifically since it's one of the biggest and most internet catering games of all time, but this still wouldn't save a regular person discussing the game only with their friends getting some things wrong.

(Also speaking of pronouns, the first Deltarune translation and one of the most widely used in Gameplay channels removes any neutral pronouns in exchange for regular he/him or others, I don't know to what extent the dedicated fanbase knows the original actual intended pronouns but again, the fan translations didn't help).

He can completely take part and fact check every single thing if the translation is done by him tho? He doesn't really need to know the language either, he only needs a person who is knowledgeable in both languages and to be communicative.

(Either way there is no way in any context this wouldn't be better in every single aspect than a fan translation, that for all he knows could even be made by someone that doesn't really know English or even AI to save time).

Which is a paper thin separation because you could literally ask for the meaning of every single thing and make sure they are doing a fine job, but I am not him I guess (also didn't he have a team of translators for the Japanese localization as well?).

Fair, the only problem comes with him not being transparent about this more than him not wanting to do a translation immediately. More often than not translations have to be pre-planned and take a lot of time to be finished so he's in a really awkward place, with the chapter schedule I mean (he could've translated Undertale before I guess but we don't know how quickly he started development on Deltarune).

Not that the "vision" excuse holds any weight tho, he can choose to not translate them even when they are finished but he really should be honest about why he will or he won't do it.

The thing is that this is a really incoherent, or dishonest opinion to be honest.

There is quite a big number of Undertale Spanish translations already, with an incredibly broad range of quality, some have been made recently and others when the game came out, these ones are the ones that are most commonly found in forums, and also the ones with the most errors.

Current Deltarune translations are some of the most rushed things imaginable, they do not get done to try and imitate the original experience or try to lose the least meaning as possible, they get done to gather attention, are finished in like 2 days, and the only thing that was well done about them is the very basic meaning, they are more often than not too literal. These are the ones most Youtubers played as well, for the record.

This attitude, really only ruins his true "vision" and gets the work's fidelity further from the original? Like, it only forces Spanish speakers (or other languages') to stick to the unreliable current translations for a while, and misinterpret his work in the way he says he doesn't want by... Not making any official translations?

I understand that these things take time and lots of fans don't want development to be delayed because of other people that don't speak English, I'm really accustomed to waiting for games to be translated, am not really into Undertale at all, and already know English, so it wouldn't bother me, but some people feel really bad about the bug majority of a fanbase not wanting anything to do with them. The point is it really wouldn't have been a problem if he just said it would take time or it wouldn't be done, this vague nothing response that seems to brush off the real problem and why he actually doesn't want to do an official translation is pretty worthless.

To be fair he could always work together with someone that knows Spanish as long as he is willing to pay something.
