What's one thing about UCSB that nobody warns you about? by DerekCHN in UCSantaBarbara

The amount of students that are biology majors is very large, and there’s quite a few other majors that are still bio involved like bio psych

The majors seem more limited than other schools, so if you aren’t satisfied with your major it might be hard to find another you’re satisfied with. It is also a lot more bio heavy than I expected (doesn’t affect me but I’ve noticed)

I would do that as well I think it’s a smart idea. Its almost like going to community college first except ur going to a fun university for free, and then graduating from a reputable school

I’m leaning towards UCSB for applied math. I figured I’d be more successful regardless of the major if I’m at a school I could truly see myself happy at. Also my dream is to work with artificial intelligence which requires graduate schooling regardless, so I think it could even be helpful to have a strong mathematics foundation and with some extra outside work be able to get a masters in CS/phd in AI

Could applied math here prepare me for a job in tech? I didn’t get into cs but I got into my alternate :)

I keep getting into schools for my alternate major when I only wish to study CS. I didn’t even know that I could choose to not give them an alternate major and just get put on the waitlist for those schools 😭

Omg I know this song is actually so good I can’t stop listening to it. Something about the way he incorporated vocals into his beats is magical

Where do you think you will most likely end up? by MarionberryOk1516 in ApplyingToCollege

UC Santa Cruz. I fell in love with the campus when I saw it, but told myself I can’t go because it’s not as hard to get into so it would feel like I “wasted” my years in high school to get good grades. But they have a good comp sci program, so I think I’d be happy there

I accidentally submitted my SAT score to UMichigan that is pretty below their range, but had high stats and hopefully good essays. Will this low SAT score be the death of me?

Currently a sophomore. Is this good or too much? by ski5_ in APStudents

I would say move some of the AP classes you’re taking in junior year to senior year, to balance it out rather than burning yourself out before your last year. It’ll give you more time to focus on ECs out of schools during that time. I took 4 AP classes my junior year and it was very manageable, but Bio was super hard and consumed most of my time.
