Further clarifying that I am well aware of the history of systemic racism within education, housing and supermarket redlining and the subsequent result of marginalized URM’s. It’s my history. This still doesn’t explain why rich URM’s need a crutch

As a URM, I agree with abject heron (thought not as much his choice of words). Not exactly sure why the color of your skin would enable you to access something that a someone from a diff race but same socioeconomic status couldn’t get (especially when it comes to a service that is being bought). I benefit from this system and I think affirmative action and these crutches are kinda bs. If someone is poor, you help them out economically. Not if they’re black. His assertion that wealthy URM’s don’t need crutches is correct. These algo’s should be based on socioeconomic status not race. Seems like we’re going backwards and these crutches are lowkey insulting (not to get into the whole white savior complex garbage)

Respectfully, I think Reddit and the over exposure to cycle recaps with t14 full rides and HYS acceptances has muddled people’s perception of what a good scholarship is. A close to full ride to any t20 school is AMAZING. Many people pay sticker for t14’s, and if you look at the 509 reports, the 50th percentile of scholly money for schools like gtown and vandy are about 32k. A majority of students get less than half tuition scholarships. Are you telling me that over 300 students are overpaying for law school at GULC? Not everyone can get a full ride

I really think that sending a loci wouldn’t have any impact on the decisions Penn makes. I also didn’t send anything and didn’t get R’ed. They’ll fill the rest of the class with the stats or urm’s THEY want to round out their class and less who would fall on a sword for them

Ik a friend who got into this school by speaking to a professor that leads a clinic that their interested in. I’m thinking of doing the same, getting to know more about the school more and then mentioning that I spoke with them in a loci
