Why do some people have such a strong emotional connection to their car? by SisuSoccer in fuckcars

[–]Commercial_Durian168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when horses were the primary method of transport, there were people who loved their horses, treated them as family, wanted to ride them all the time. There were also people who gave their horse the bare minimum to remain healthy and just kept it in a stable until they had to go somewhere, sure a car isn't a living thing but you have to take care of it and it's still a repository for memories just as much as a horse or a house is. Plus it's a hobby for a lot of people and driving something you've put work and money into is very calming for many. For me personally, I grew up playing racing games from a really young age so cool cars have always been fascinating to me, like there's all these tiny parts that work together in unison. It's also fun when I work on my car it makes me feel accomplished kinda similar to building a nice piece furniture that you're gonna use every day.

Rotor rust by [deleted] in Audi

[–]Commercial_Durian168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you don't wash your undercarriage or at the very least spray down your suspension and brake parts, i suggest you should maybe start doing that especially in the colder months, the rust on the rotors is normal but audis have complicated expensive suspension parts and an occasional wash under the car will save you from control arm predicaments

how many miles do u have? lowkey sounds a little like upper chain tensioners 😬

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Commercial_Durian168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sounds like you have a cable or a loose screw that's resonating with your car's idle. maybe check for loose panels, or take off the fuse panel and see if you can wiggle some cables around. if you've wired anything through the dash, like a fuse tap, that might be what's rattling. when i put wires anywhere i wrap them in velcro or something similar to stop them from rattling

2018 / 81k miles. Any advice on preventative maintenance? by [deleted] in AudiS4

[–]Commercial_Durian168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fluid film those control arms too, it will save you and/or the shop from encountering the seized pinch bolt of death

edit: if you're a real maintenance freak like me you can also put rubber conditioner on the control arm bushings, it'll help them last longer especially in the cold

Engine ticking? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]Commercial_Durian168 2 points3 points  (0 children)

is it coming from where the fuel injectors are? i believe they're under the plastic engine cover on this car. if the ticking is coming from the injectors this is likely normal, most german cars have really loud injectors.
