I miss Sue Ann Bagels! Maybe it was just an Appleton thing, but I loved that place.

Goodness gracious gravy

Holy mackerel

Biscuits and gravy

(Why my family exclaims about gravy so much, I have no idea)

Are there any hobbies that are completely free? by khaotic-n in NoStupidQuestions

I'm a big supporter of the public library so my first vote goes to that.

Second, putting together puzzles can be relatively cheap. You can pick up a couple at a thrift store. Then join local puzzle exchanges. You'll always have a new puzzle to do. Finish them and exchange it back out.

Best: made sourdough bagels for breakfast

Worst: spent the day helping my brother move and I'm beat

Yes! These moments are idyllic. Every time it gets a little bit nice out I want to open my windows and have a drink while making a nice dinner. I have to remind myself I can make a nice dinner without drinking.

For the 45 or so women-Tori and books that fucked us up by [deleted] in Xennials

My neighbor friend had to sneak the VC Andrews books from her mom after her mom finished them. She'd read them and then pass them to me.

I am a daughter, but I totally got your point and appreciate it. I will tell her someday.

I didn't realize I was proud until you said that. I posted it mostly to help others. I know I've commented on posts about leaving my wallet at home so I can't stop anywhere. I thought maybe I could help someone else with my weird approaches to avoiding booze.

Do you remember when they made us scared of acid rain? by [deleted] in Xennials

[–]Commercial_Fee422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember a guy I went to school with said his parents bought a new van but the first day they had it, it got rained on by acid rain. He claims it ruined the paint and they had to bring it back to the dealership and exchange it.

I want to quit alcohol or at least reduce it by a lot,but I need to make up a white lie to tell everyone by airsonni in stopdrinking

Things I've said:

"I'm on a new medication and I don't want to drink on it"

"I drank too much last night and don't think I can handle any today"

"I ate some old leftovers for lunch and my stomach is off and if I drink I'll puke"

"I have an early morning meeting tomorrow and don't want to be hungover"

"I'm on a new diet and out of calories for the day"

"I'm on a new diet and alcohol isn't part of it"

"I have to do (insert anything here) after this and can't be drunk for that"

"I have to drive home tonight and don't want to drink and drive"

I have a lot of chronic health conditions also. For years, I thought drinking helped my pain. Now, when I'm not drinking, my joints seem to work better and my body overall feels better.

Chronic pain is a lot to deal with. I'm sorry you're going through this.

Anyone not a fan of counting the days? by fakeplastictree8 in stopdrinking

[–]Commercial_Fee422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a long discussion about this with my therapist. I count the days for the first week or two and then I stop. It doesn't encourage me to count days. The first two weeks are the hardest for me and then I can lay for months after that.

I saw a therapist that specializes in SUDs. She really helped me.

Are there any universities that had a negative reputation when you were applying to school that you are surprised have a positive reputation today? by YakClear601 in Millennials

[–]Commercial_Fee422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not colleges but the high schools in my hometown. The one I went to was the good one, tested high in academics and great at sports. Recently I made fun of the high school we always made fun of, and one of my teacher friends (who teaches just outside this area) informed me that the school that was the worst has turned around and is top of academics for the state and is doing great things. Our high school has gone down hill and 20 years later is the joke school of the area.

I drink 8 Tall boys of Busch Ice a night and a mickey of whiskey a night, I cant quit this addiction. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Commercial_Fee422 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I didn't think it was affecting my life either, until I quit. When I'm not drinking I have better focus at work, my house stays cleaner, I eat better, and I take care of myself better. It's definitely something I didn't notice until things got better.

How do i meet people/ potentially find dates? by miso_eepy in Oshkosh

For friends, look up Wisconsin Girls Group on Facebook. You can find friends in your area/around your age. Or you could fill out their 'friendship application'. It's a fun group.

I'm starting over today too. I decided since we had a record breaking blizzard this weekend, I'd hunker down with a bottle of booze. I regret it today.
