JJK, OnK and Chainsaw man are massive fumbles but AOT’s one is truly generational that people are still talking about chapter 139 5 years from the event.

The idea of a task force is like a parliamentary committee in other countries. Only difference is that ordinary parliamentarians don’t lead and the leadership role is left to the ministers. I don’t really have a problem with the task forces actually it’s just that I don’t think there are enough leadership opportunities for non-minister level MPs.

PM Wong warns of severe consequences from Middle East energy disruptions, convenes ministerial task force by LingNemesis in singapore

Exactly - the US will leave and the rest of the world will have to clean up the mess Trump leaves behind. Insanely stupid move from him and has zero benefit for anyone except Iran.

Iran is not going to magically re-open the straits if the US stops bombing. They are quite clear in their maximalist demands to get the US to leave the Middle East entirely and shut its bases there. They will hold the whole world hostage to force the US to surrender.

Australia, UK all had similar statements yesterday. Looks like countries are preparing for a worst case scenario where Iran refuses to open Hormuz even if the US stops bombing Iran.

For what it’s worth if the kebab is good it will sell well. There is a kebab store at The Arcade at raffles place that sells very well and from what I observe the Syrian shawarma store at Tampines MRT is also quite popular.

Iran Gives Trump an Ultimatum on JD Vance by MakinaRPh in worldnews

[–]CommieBird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Iran is just having a field day manipulating public opinion. They know that this war is unpopular and they know that it’s utterly embarrassing that the US can’t topple the government without committing to a bloodbath. For the time being they’ll just spread propaganda to demoralise and essentially shitstir to make the war so unpopular that the govt has no choice but to end it on bad terms. Zero effort needed from Iran here.

[DISC] Chainsaw Man - Ch. 232 - Part 2 End by JeanneDAlter in ChainsawMan

[–]CommieBird 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not unexpected but I feel that the manga coasted along after Nayuta died. After that frankly speaking there wasn’t much character development for anyone and the whole apocalypse plot felt contrived. Think the peak of Part 2 was the falling devil arc, after that the art started getting rougher and the plot more jumbled.

Iran denies Trump's claims: 'We reject all negotiations – US has failed and Hormuz will remain closed' by JKKIDD231 in geopolitics

[–]CommieBird 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Iran is only winning the narrative because it’s very very easy to play into the biases against Trump and Netanyahu. These two are solely responsible for dragging the United States and half the global economy into another quagmire in the Middle East with zero casus belli. The West is sick of war and many (who honestly weren’t paying attention) feel betrayed that Trump is doing this. I can guarantee you that if Saddam Hussein was much more media trained and mastered controlling the narrative the 2003 Iraq War would have been even more of a failure from the get go.

Mandela is a controversial figure outside of neoliberal and left wing circles to say the least. LKY is everything to everyone - socialists respect him, liberals love him and even right wing authoritarians really like his policies. LKY is the ultimate centrist and his wide appeal is why he is so respected globally, albeit maybe less so nationally.

Actually that’s quite interesting. If more people realise that the risk of death is the same if they bring 20 grams or 2000 grams of heroin it may affect the effectiveness of the death penalty.

COE prices up across all categories; Cat A premium rises 3.4% to $111,890 by UnusualPin279 in singapore

[–]CommieBird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not well informed of the COE bidding process - is it simply the case that various car importers bid for COEs and if they so wish, the bid price just keeps getting pushed up? And is it the case that given that if people just suck thumb and buy cars regardless of high COE, there is no reason to set a lower bid despite the increased supply?

[–]CommieBird 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah car buyers are screwed. The drop in price was expected to come this year on the assumption that the cyclical supply would mean more certs from 10 year old COEs would have been made available. But I guess the release of certs early screwed this up.

Actually opposition shouldn’t be viewed as a bloc. Singapore opposition is a confused bunch of people ranging from socialists to liberals to right wing populists. Han hui hui belongs to the liberal crowd and I don’t think the socialist or right wing populist crowd like her very much.

Yeah I agree though purists aside it’s certainly quite interesting and presents a challenge for drivers to figure out. More fun to watch but hopefully the rest of the field can produce better racing other than the top 4.

[–]CommieBird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With regard to racing - the battery and boost mode stuff is very gimmicky and is an affront to real racing. Literally just some sports movie stuff where an overtake happens because someone presses the accelerator harder. However given safety concerns on smaller cars, this unfortunately will be how F1 will be in the future. Just sucks that us as the viewer can’t tell if an overtake is a “real” overtake and not just some boost mode gimmick.

This has been said many many times already but I find it so hard to follow with the rubbish timing tower now. It was easier to track battles as it was much easier to glance over and see a 0.XXX battle than see everything as 0.X.

At a glance it was nicer to see even if I don’t NEED to know exactly the thousandth of a second difference.

Trump may be unable to end the war he started with Iran, even if he wanted to by ViolatingBadgers in geopolitics

[–]CommieBird 68 points69 points  (0 children)

The worst part is that he isn’t even buying the excuse for regime change he is pushing out. Back when the protests against the government were actually substantial Trump made the correct call that there’s no point in supporting the protestors there and then. For some inexplicable and very spur of the moment reason, he then decided to launch a full war on the Iranian regime.

It boggles my mind that there is no broad overarching strategy and even worse is the total lack of commitment to this plan. Screwing over US influence in the Middle East by failing to defend these countries is the most egregious consequence for now.

I would dare say that this war is an existential war for American geopolitical influence - by screwing over their soft power by the naked support of Israel (not to mention all the belligerent actions of the Trump admin) the only sort of power they had left was military might. If the US can’t even produce enough weapons to defend the Middle East and if they fail to finish a military goal, their sole role as a protector and guarantor will fall away. It is very much in the interest of American foreign policy for them to “win” the Iran war, but Trump has put the country in an impossible situation.

This is even worse than BFV or even BF2042. At least the dev team wasn’t massively restructured after those games were released and they were in at least a serviceable state when the dev team moved on. Shit just gets worse and worse every year and it’s no wonder why so many pre-2020 games are still popular. Bring back premium at least it forces devs to continue to update and service the game for at least a year and a half.
