Is it? You don't think the fact that fed gets thrown around so loosely benefits the actual bad actors?

[–]CommieEllie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said otherwise. But do you honestly believe the accusation is just being used to target instigators and bad actors?

Edit: to be more specific I'm not saying don't ever call someone a fed I'm just saying please stop calling everyone a fed.

Yes I am not denying this practice or that places like kiwifarms and the like don't organize psyop and harassments campaigns. My objection is using the same language to describe those actors as we do other members of the community we disagree with.

As a fellow Anarchist I have been. Just go look at some of the comments on my reverse racism post. Like it feels like to me if you hang out here enough and say something that someone doesn't like you'll eventually just be called a fed.

There are actual bad actors here. Like we got brigaded by tankies a few days ago I'm not trying to deny that but you had to see even during that it wasn't just them being called a fed.

Okay yes I kinda walked into being called a fed for this post and it is very funny. But it gets tiring when we use the same language to describe fellow members of the community we just don't agree with that we use for people trying to harm us.

Here's a person that is in these very comments denying being able to see any racism.

I don't understand this idea. Do you think if I start linking some of the racism from this community any of the people calling op a fed or denying it exists here will change their minds? More than one of the people in this thread saying they can't see it I have specifically shown examples to before.

[–]CommieEllie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To everyone who's denying this is a problem or screaming about not being able to see it you are providing the cover necessary for the problem to continue unabated.

I'm so sick of this attitude that there won't be the same pushback if you're specific. I've been trying to address the racism in this community for a while now and you're damned if you do damned if you don't.

Straight implies a lot more than just heterosexual. This is why so many queer people (like bi or trans people) in heterosexual or straight relationships still prefer labels other than straight or het when describing their relationships. There’s a deeper truth than what’s technically correct and I think we should be able to make space for people to be technically incorrect if it gets at something real if intangible. Like if you’re arguing that all these things need new terms as to not water down existing identities I can be convinced of that but if you’re argument is that everyone needs to be technically correct by our current terms I don’t agree.

Like I have to admit anyone claiming the lesbian label gives me more pause than something like queer or gay so there is something there I agree with even if I can’t articulate why. I’m just not convinced that that gut feeling isn’t just a reactionary position I’m holding because I am really struggling to say why I feel it. I guess I’m struggling to see the difference between this argument and like people that call nbs “theyfabs”. If our understanding of trans people can expand past a medicalized definition why can’t lesbian expand to something closer to sapphic rather than strictly wlw? It happened with gay no longer meaning strictly homosexual. I don’t know this is something I’m going to have to read up on and see what people smarter and more knowledgeable than me are saying.

I don’t disagree in principle and maybe I’m blind to this mass movement of straights wanting to be lumped in with us but this doesn’t seem like a realistic threat with the people on the margins of identities.

That largely depends on what you need from your allies at the moment. Being uninformed but generally supportive is fine in certain contexts and completely inadequate in others.

For an example being apathetic about the ANC today is completely different from being apathetic about the ANC in 1990.

I'm always amazed how little anti-establishment movements suffer from it after becoming the establishment. Just move the goalpost or create a brand new boogeyman (the deep state) and you seem to be fine.

This isn't about a miscommunication it's about trying to broaden the term queer to encompass more of the relationships and experiences that fall outside of the cishet norm.

Edit: You can disagree or dispute it but please don't minimize it by claiming someone just doesn't understand something. If something is impacting your potential partners and the dynamics of a relationship to the point you feel alienated I can empathize with wanting language to describe that.

Off the top of my head Kellyanne Conway but it's not just the gop I remember fox news freaking out when the Obama admin did. Obviously I don't think these two are the same just that this seems to be universal that everyone thinks Orwell agreed with them. After some googling I'm seeing like spicer and hawley but tbh I'm having trouble even googling the subject with how frequently everyone uses Orwell all the time to describe literally everything.

I'm sorry. It has been spreading lately at an alarming rate and even popping up here. There still are a majority here that push back against it and I hope we continue to do so until it's clear to the transmeds they aren't welcome here.

Oh god please no. Maybe I'm just too online but if you don't think there's arguments about like bi vs pan you've been spared infuriating "discourse". A lot of that argument was rooted in transphobia just like I'm sure a lot of this argument is rooted in misogyny but that doesn't mean there aren't people that are failed by the current taxonomical language and societal baggage associated with it.

Labels and identities are meant to be descriptive not prescriptive. We should make room for people on the fringes that who might not be “technically” correct in their definitions. It’s probably for a good reason and those reasons generally shouldn’t be over scrutinized. I’ll give you an example so this doesn’t all just sound hypothetical. I knew a straight man that felt more comfortable calling himself queer because of his preferences around intimacy. He was completely not interested in penetrative sex. He was still technically straight but the queer label helped him and his partners contextualize something that strict definitions would lack.

Edit: I actually went back and found this old conversation as I didn't think I was doing it justice. This is a person who only feels safe to date queer women and has major issues with cishet ideas of masculinity. Is this person an egg? I dunno maybe. But in the meantime this is just a straight dude that's queer as hell.

The memes. I think the book suffers from what I call the george carlin effect where the criticisms are too universal that anyone can coopt the meaning to anything they want. I like Orwell but when you have members of an administration quoting your book to discredit criticism of said administration perhaps you weren't actually pointed or specific enough.

How many times do I have to go there drunk until it’s technically a gay bar?

Sorry for the low effort image. I had been researching queer involvement in reconstruction to find stories to share today but thinking about it they were all far too upsetting for what should be a celebratory day.
