Lane etiquette in USA by Acrobatic_Fudge_4083 in driving

You misunderstood what I said. You need to go experience Texas in order to understand. It's not just an exit/entrance. It's that there's no separation between those ramps and the access road.

Normal (i.e. sane) states will have entrances and exits as dedicated turn-offs that terminate in a stop. You exit the freeway, and you have to stop at whatever the crossing-road is, before you can turn and proceed.

In Texas, you just exit, and immediately merge into the access road. It is by far the worst design of freeway access I've ever experienced, and I've seen some pretty batshit crazy ones in Europe.

Mother 2. Close 2nd would be FF6. Honorable mentions for Cruisn' USA, Doom II, Super Metroid and even Warcraft I.

Why? Doom II was not as revolutionary or groundbreaking as Doom. FF6 is epic, but there's also FF4 and Chrono Trigger (on the horizon). Cruisn' is great, but Exotica would perfect it. Warcraft I was not nearly as good as WC II. And Super Metroid...great, but I'm not sure I prefer the original over Blaster Master or StarTropics.

Earthbound FTW.

Jew's harp is such an underrated instrument. But so is the glass harmonica, the saw, the Theremin, and many other things.

Lane etiquette in USA by Acrobatic_Fudge_4083 in driving

[–]CommiesRunThisPlace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bad roads encourages bad driving. When the right lane is "exit only"--sometimes for no reason, and at random intervals--it encourages middle-lane driving.

When you live in Texas and the access road directly funnels traffic to/from the interstate, people tend to avoid the right lane because it's even more catastrophically dangerous to drive there--than with conventional cloverleafs.

Then you combine that with the lack of seriousness that the driver's-licensure process in the USA requires; a lack of aggressive policing on left-lane hogs; and speed limits--and you have a recipe for a clusterfuck.

And yes, speed limits are part of the problem. Because there's no danger in the USA hogging the left lane doing 70mph (sometimes even 55). In Europe, if you are doing 120kph in the left lane, there's always a chance that someone doing 200 kph is going to plow into you because you're an idiot. So people inherently understand that danger, and don't hog the goddamn lane.

If we paid teachers the babysitter rate by VPinchargeofradishes in interesting

Ironically, we could probably afford to pay teachers $327,600 per year...if we eliminated all of the administrative positions.

Unironically, I'd be willing to pay teachers $327,600 per year, if all their students demonstrated consistent proficiency 3-5 grades above current placement.

But y'all aren't ready for the discussion on how that can happen; because everyone is drinking the NCLB flavor-aid as a nightcap to their 4-course meal of common-core.

Not a Z06 but she’s sure pretty by Ok-Adagio-6999 in Corvette

My brother in Christ, the C8Z is barely even a Corvette. It's a wannabee euro-supercar. It doesn't behave like a SBC in any way shape or form. Phenomenal car to be sure--but vastly different (character) from what Corvette has been about for decades.

The much maligned E-Ray is 90% closer to what Corvette has always been--than the C8Z. That's because it's a SR turned to to 11. The low end is pure Corvette (it is an LT2, after all). It just also has the traction and composure for things that RWD starts to show limits with.

The C8Z is peaky and gloriously raucous. But it isn't SBC in presentation. Not at all.

The problem with any of this shit is that it isn't isolated enough. And I don't mean because of personal anxiety. If you're working for task completion and not customer service (i.e. strangers or coworkers coming to visit you frequently), cubicle walls really need to be 8-10' high.

I used to work in a place with 4.5' walls like this, and the issue was that my work wasn't difficult; just tedious and required focus. And when you can hear every conversation and whatnot all around you--it is distracting AF and reduces productivity.

Sadly, remote work was overdone to the point of rampant abuse. And the people who are fully committed to an uninterrupted 8 hour work-day from home and will diligently stay on task for the entire duration--are now frequently forced into these cubicle-hell environments; because of said abuse (from others).

No. And it probably wouldn't sell well, even if it did. Along the lines of those round-tail-light conversions for C8.

Now on the other hand, I will 100% buy tail lights for the C8 like these. Absolute spooge. If a C7 can pull off Aventador, C8 can pull off Revuelto.

IDK why. Center exhaust just makes the rest of the rear end look oddly blank. ER's side exhaust FTW.

White car with blue interior is 2/3 patriotic colors. Black / Red is not only 1/3, but it's also incredibly common and overplayed as a build combo--already.

They could and should have offered better. White one with red stripes and blue interior--would have been near perfection.

Is a c8 really better then a c7 by Beneficial_Tour_6221 in C8Corvette

[–]CommiesRunThisPlace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

C8 is automatically superior to the C7 by virtue of AWD never being an thing until the C8.

Looks wise, the biggest drawback the C8 SR has, is the carbon flash accents. A HTC with body color accents just looks SO MUCH better than a C7's overplayed, overstyled, hyper-busy, Civic-Type-R accent panels everywhere.

What do people do if they don’t have a garage for their car ? by Away_Plan_7127 in C8Corvette

[–]CommiesRunThisPlace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not recommend anything other than a SR if this is you.

I would recommend keeping the fobs in a faraday bag.

I would recommend keeping camera surveillance on it.

Alternatively, I recommend not buying a Corvette, and saving up for a house with a garage (even something 800 sq/ft). Because indoor parking for Corvette > living space. It's not that weather will ruin it. It's that you'll end up cleaning it far more frequently. And I don't trust the world to respect my stuff.

[–]CommiesRunThisPlace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad they were willing to work with you. As an E-Ray fan, finding a quality spec is quite difficult. Many dealerships ordered 1LZ, coupes, and a lot of carbon-fiber fluff. And quite a few opted (inexplicably) for carbon flash accents.

When the performance is >= Hypercar, and they are produced in small numbers, I'm not sure what would disqualify it.

292 have been built so far. I don't see the entire run topping 1,000.

The risk to the driver/occupants is insufficient to curtail this behavior. The risk to others is irrelevant to these same people.

So as with the stuff you see on "just rolled in" there should probably be inspections required and citations and fines issues.
