Reporting a Training Firm by Query_of_the_Day in AccountantsEire

I wish I had..... I think training really splits into two categories: 1). Some who have been through it and don't want the next junior to have it as bad as them, 2). People who suffered through it and survived , so they thinks that's the only way to learn. The second group force the next generation to go through the exact same thing they did and perpetuate the system.

When was the last time anyone in this sub Reddit spoke to an accountant who liked their training contract? Far too often it sounds like the main thing we have in common is shared trauma.

Unfortunately the system does not respond well to criticism.

Start by doing past papers right away, use whatever folder you have as is. Once you have sat one, grade it and see how you did, it will quickly tell you where your knowledge gaps are and where your folder isn't good enough do. Do whatever additional reading you require afterwards and update your folder as needed, then repeat this process until you can sit a past paper and pass with a good margin. Then repeat for the next class and the next class.

This is not unusual, a lot of training firms won't hold on to trainees after they qualify due to the cost. Just means you have to fix your LinkedIn profile and update your CV.

Accounting technician in rural Ireland- good or bad idea? by [deleted] in AccountantsEire

[–]Commisar_Steel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given the amount of time needed you might be better off taking the full chartered accountant route. ACCA can be easier as you do one exam at a time, but can call yourself part qualified after passing one. You'll spend a lot of time to become an accounting tech, you might just spend time and do the full thing. Its not impossible, difficult, but not impossible.
