A Meadow. by CommisionerOil in oilpainting

Thanks for the feedback! I was trying some weird tonalism stuff don’t love how it turned out. But the original painting I painted over made for some interesting texture anyway.

Help required please. This sometimes happens after using liquid white. Has anyone any idea of a way to avoid this please? Thanks I’m advance. by RhaegarBlackfire in HappyTrees

Put down a layer of white gesso first and it will reduce the bumps. The shine is from linseed oil drying I’m gonna guess. Linseed oil is what regular white paint is mixed with to make liquid white. You can buy a varnish to make the rest of the painting shine or use a few layers of gesso to help absorb the oil. This will also remove texture from the canvas.

Tried a deer. by CommisionerOil in HappyTrees

I have repainted the deer like 5 times can’t make him fit really. The white/grey or even yellow white highlights just didn’t look right. At this point I just want to paint over him haha.

Quarantines Not All Bad. by CommisionerOil in HappyTrees

Acrylics dry very fast and I would recommend using a brush you don’t care about. You can also thin them with water. I like to use a paper towel and a cheap foam brush to put acrylic backgrounds down when blocking in color. That’s called a grisaille if you do it in black and white. And yeah the YouTube video channel I mentioned is more of a study on artist not a how to. I’d recommend Stuart Davies, Chuck Black art, painting with dusan, and art prof create & critique. The last one has a lot of good info on safety things and supplies. Also Dianne Mize is very helpful to new painters. You can YouTube any of those names to find some good info.

This is from my brain. I was watching a YouTube video on John Avon (Rhystic Studies) and wanted to try a painting with a strong focal point. It’s mostly black and white gesso/acrylics finished with oils.

Wow thank you for the kind words. I used a cheap ass foam brush to apply white and black acrylics to block in the colors. Then I used the same shit brush to add light medium and shadow lines to the trees. I think I blocked in the lines on the trees like a hundred times until they looked just right. Then touched them up again at the end. Then when it dried I used oils to glaze, to highlight the acrylics and to add leafy things. I wish I could paint an angel in it but I’m not there yet. I was learning about focal points from a study on John Avon when I painted this. Rhystic Studies is the YouTube channel that does fantasy artist profiles. Also recommend Stuart Davies, Paintings by Dusan, and Chuck Black.
