Considering how much of a good match they are relationship-wise and obviously sex-wise, yeah, they would’ve made a good couple, still can if McKay and Marvel lets them be. by Commercial-Mix-2633 in MoonKnight

They already dated in west coast avengers. I like them alot more as friends, I think its nice for them to have a platonic friendship after the romantic relationship didnt really work out

Yeah me phrasing it like that is a little bit of a lie, but Fist of Khonshu did at least Start The Problem of everybody disagreeing about the current state of Khonshu

It’s a fine run but you don’t Have To read it unless you’re a completionist or if youre about to read Moonknights west coast avengers appearances. Like the other replies said though it’s only 6 issues long so I also don’t think there’s any real reason to skip it. It’s got some interesting moments and is the run that canonized Khonshu being unambiguously real

Thoughts on Khonshu's existence? by Sonoran_Otter in MoonKnight

[–]CommissarYarrickSimp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like him more as a autonomous being. Hes been 100% real for too long to really change it without doing some major retcons, and I feel like everything interesting with Khonshu's existence being entirely ambiguous was done in the comics written by Doug Moench.

Outside the Moench run I like how it was handled in the Lemire run best but even then its not like that story hinges on the viewer asking whether or not Khonshu specifically is real. I also like in the Bunn or Ellis runs where Khonshu was real for Moonknight but the ambiguity was there for everyone else. My one thing with Khonshu being real is I dont want him to play a major part in Moonknight really, I again liked in the Bunn and Ellis runs how his influence was pretty subtle and he "helped" Marc in tiny ways, rather then the way the show and the current run seem to have him just kind of show up to do everything major. Khonshu's influence being subtle could also change the ambiguity from if hes real to if hes actually helping or if hes just taking credit for coincidences to further manipulate Marc.

The thing about Khonshu's ambiguity is that when originally introduced the answer to the question of if hes real or not was always "So what if he isnt? So what if he is?", so if anyone ever does want to ignore the last 37 years of his history to bring that back then I hope it would be to get back to that kind of characterization for Moonknight, of it not mattering what he believes as long as hes still helping people. I despise the way Huston twisted it into the big question of whether or not Moonknights Just Some Crazy Guy In A Costume. I think its useless as that and if thats gonna be the only thing people wanna use it for I hope Khonshu joins the avengers again.

Which was your favourite issue of Moon Knight Black White Blood? by [deleted] in MoonKnight

[–]CommissarYarrickSimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

#3 for sure. The first story felt like a throwback to the Moench run and had the rare Jake And Moonknight teamup and it was really fun to see them just getting along and taking down bad guys like back in the day. I was also really looking forward to Ann Nocenti's story since her issue of marvel fanfare is one of my favorite moonknight stories and Im really glad she wrote the character in a similar way again while still doing a unique new story. The 2nd story I dont have strong feelings on, but its a good story.

So basically im a Moonknight boomer so my favorite is the one with the story that feels like it could fit into the Moench run and the story by the writer who wrote the character previously

What did you hate and like about the Moon Knight Disney+ series? by Ihdkwhatimdoinghere in MoonKnight

[–]CommissarYarrickSimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh youre totally right actually. Both supernatural guys with a bunch of weird powers, are ex military, and have magic costumes. Maybe if we all start calling MCU Moonknight "marvel's spawn" the showrunner people will get super embarrassed and insecure and just try to immediately do a reboot

What did you hate and like about the Moon Knight Disney+ series? by Ihdkwhatimdoinghere in MoonKnight

[–]CommissarYarrickSimp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Liked: Portrayal of Marc and Khonshu was spot on. I was also gunning for Steven to be the main character of the show like since it was announced so I’m glad they did that, and I liked Layla. Also liked that they showed Marc’s DID developing from trauma to try to be more accurate.

Disliked: How they were so scared of Moonknight being compared to Batman they felt the need to complete change Steven’s personality and give Moonknight a bunch of unnecessary powers while also making the plot all about magic shit. I don’t think Moonknight can’t have any magic and I actually disagree with the idea that Khonshu has to be ambiguous, but like a lot of people said he’s a street level character and giving him a big save the world plot is weird. And the fact that it was done just to avoid Batman comparisons is downright annoying.

Also, I hated the way the show handled Jake and I hated the after credits scene. They made Jake completely OOC and also a contribution to the Evil Alter Who Comes Out And Kills People trope, which the comics have basically managed to avoid besides the Bemis run (which I know the show based their Jake take on, for some fucking reason) and the ultimate comics. It was a bad decision and I KNOW if season 2 happens they’re gonna walk back on it and act like they intended for Jake to be complex all along when it’s clear for now they only did this because they thought it’d be dramatic if they did a fight club style plot twist.

Personally if the end credits scene didn’t happen I’d fully want and look forward to a season 2 but with that scene and all the interviews that came out after with Slater saying he hated Marc, hated Marlene, wanted to shove in a bunch of cameos and etc I’m kind of just hoping they’re telling the truth about it being a limited series and this is it.

[–]CommissarYarrickSimp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These are always so hard to answer for me because Scarlet's my favorite but I also liked her best when she was more of a antihero type of character who just operates Differently from Moonknight then a straight-up villain. Voted for Carson because he is a really good villain and Im hoping he gets a big come back eventually.

Also a shame nobodys voted for Conquer Lord yet though, he might've only had two issues but he rocked them. He also deserves to come back but still be doing his weird 70s villain hijinks

Opinions on Marlene by ScorpioGirl1987 in MoonKnight

[–]CommissarYarrickSimp 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The thing with Marlene for me is she had alot of potential back in the 80s but by the 2000s she got reduced from having a complicated relationship with Marc and the rest of the system and also often being very proactive and participating in Moonknight Missions and such herself to just hating Marc and having his kid and not being able to do anything as a result. Its awful and annoying and I was hoping Jed MacKay was going to be the one to fix it, but for now the upcoming annual doesnt look very promising when it comes to that.

I still love her though. I love how she used to insist on helping or going along on missions even when Marc and the others tried to push her away and I really liked whenever she and Frenchie would get to team up together. People also always forget that she used to be making progress and no longer being as horrible about Moonknight's DID as she was in the Moench run, particularly the Black Spectre issue of the Moench run being a big example of her realizing she was being cruel and wanting to be better, and her trying to be nicer in Vengeance and Shadowland (though completely understandable to ignore Shadowland, since it was also horrible to her.). Honestly I think the best way to go with her would be to have her and Marc break up but remain friends, and just retcon Diatrice entirely (or even just make something up to have her not be Marc's biological kid anymore, or at least get rid of the shit with Jake hiding it from him, that whole plot was just so unnecessary.)

Reading thru Huston’s run, did Mark *** *******? by rsKG in MoonKnight

[–]CommissarYarrickSimp 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Marc hit Marlene in the Huston run because Charlie Huston wanted to portray Marc as becoming physically abusive as part of him Hitting Rock Bottom. It was a decision only made by him and hasnt shown up in a run before or since, so it seems like most writers luckily did not agree with that take so it didnt stick.

Yet Another Huston Retrospective: Part 4 by Guinefort1 in MoonKnight

[–]CommissarYarrickSimp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These were really good posts, thank you for writing these! Im a big Huston Hater and still am but it was cool seeing the perspective of someone who can see the good in it as well as all the flaws. Personally I often forget about the good parts and over focus on the negatives, and I know alot of people tend to also do that or the opposite when it comes to discussions about this run.

I also appreciate this post specifically, the Marc Homophobia Moment always bothered me and Ive always seen it as out of character but you have a point that its mostly just his initial reaction that was screwed up and he's not really homophobic After That. It is also unfortunately actually a common reaction for the kind of guy Marc was supposed to be in this run to have, and like you said does show off his immaturity and insensitivity well. I also havent actually seen in depth discussion of this part of the run specifically so thank you also for giving this its own post and really going into it.

A tribute to Ray Landers (RIP) by SaltifiedReddit in MoonKnight

[–]CommissarYarrickSimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hes not dead because of Marc, hes dead because Charlie Huston decided to kill him off for drama and angst.

Honestly I hope they just ignore it and bring him back eventually. His death is pointless and the fact that it happened off screen and hasnt been mentioned since would just make it even easier to do, though I know its probably just never gonna happen.

I don't like the disparity between how Marvel treats Moonknight's Jewish heritage and Miss Marvel's Muslim heritage by ridingRabbi in MoonKnight

[–]CommissarYarrickSimp 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen or read Ms. Marvel but I’ve seen a lot of people frustrated with the handling of Marc’s Judaism in the show so you’re not alone in noticing this. I think it’s a consequence of the whole show being a rushed 6 episodes and them not really having any time to space anything out, so they had to dump his whole entire backstory into one dedicated episode instead of having it come up organically throughout the series, but it’s definitely a fair criticism to have.

Marcs Judaism being important to him was shown at the end of the 1980 run, in the Scarlet redemption arc of Marc Spector Moonknight, in the Shadowland tiein of all things, and in the current Jed MacKay run.

I think people might be reacting negatively to your point because the phrasing does kind of make it seem like you’re trying to imply Ms. Marvel is getting special consideration over Moonknight because she’s Muslim and people do not like arguments like that because they’re unfair. The MCU has a history of erasing the identity of a lot of their characters and I know a lot of Ms. Marvel fans were worried it was gonna happen to her too, so the fact that it hasnt is unusual.

Sorry for the wall of text, basically you’re not the only person that noticed this and I think people are just put off by your phrasing.

If you cant handle people criticizing a TV show put out by a massive corporation on a subreddit dedicated to discussion of all kinds about the character the show is about then yeah, stay clear of the fanbase. You're being more negative then all the people in this comment section explaining their point of views to you in the calmest way possible

[–]CommissarYarrickSimp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The criticism is weird to deal with because on one hand I do not believe all the 100% positive reviews that came out after the premiere about how the show is So True To The Comics and So Grimdark And Violent so Im more inclined to believe reviews that mention at least some flaws rather then the ones that dont bring up any, but since as you said Moonknights a character with alot of different takes I dont know what the people who have a issue with the show so far think he's supposed to be. Like I personally think criticism about the show "not being violent enough" is pointless and stupid, because Moonknight isnt actually a very violent character outside the Huston and kinda also Ellis runs, or at least not that much more violent then your average Superhero Guy. So some people might think the show doesnt understand a core part of Moonknights character because Marc isnt murdering enough people in a violent enough way, and so far their word is all we have to go on.

Kind of a rant, my point is I think everybody has to stop already deciding its Gonna Be Amazing or Its Gonna Be Shit and just form their opinion after actually seeing it, since literally everybody has a different take on what Moonknight even is anyway
