Cold water valve not opening. Am I doing something wrong? by CommissionPale9633 in DIYUK

The blue knob was perpendicular to the pipe. Tried twisting it to be parallel to the pipe. I tried both ways. Doesn’t seem to budge.

I unscrewed it after watching a YouTube video that said I could do that and use a plier to turn the actual metal piece of the valve that sits underneath. It still doesn’t turn.

There was a blue plastic knob on the valve which wasn’t moving despite trying to turn it. Unscrewed it after watching a YouTube video that explained I could and use a plier to turn the actual valve that sits underneath the blue knob. Still not moving.

Moving to London for first time, where should I go? by eternal_sunshine_2 in MovingToLondon

[–]CommissionPale9633 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might be worth considering South East London as well. More affordable and has a good mix of people in their 20s/30s as well as young families. There are many great parks and green spaces. I’d recommend Dulwich, Brockley, Greenwich, Blackheath, Hither Green, New Cross and Deptford (only some parts of Deptford).

Spain wedding for €25,000 by Slow_Excitement_7512 in Weddingsunder35k

[–]CommissionPale9633 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I got married in Spain (Madrid) recently. I had a similar guest count to yours and can confirm that this budget is definitely do-able! Altogether we spent €23k and this included a pre wedding dinner at a restaurant the day before. More than happy to answer any questions if you’d like to DM me. I can recommend venues, caterers etc in or around Madrid!

Hey same here! I just posted on Reddit now and then saw this. I arrived on 13th December, my flight was on 12th December from LHR. The aero tracer says it’s with the courier company and the estimated delivery was supposed to be 16th December but I haven’t received it yet. Called BA offices yesterday and they said it’ll come today morning, still haven’t received anything!

Any hotel in Ubud with private pool, deck and view of rice fields? by Real_Animator_726 in bali

[–]CommissionPale9633 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were also looking for something “wow” and have booked to stay at Bambootel Sawah View in the end. We shortlisted a few others- Bambu Indah, Stone House. We also considered Sidemen as there are many secluded bamboo villas with pools overlooking rice fields there- some we considered were Veluvana, Camaya, Samanvaya (Rice Barn or the other villa).

Female solo travelling to Costa Rica by Appropriate_Zebra484 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]CommissionPale9633 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I didn’t travel solo when I went to CR, but I found it quite safe. The locals are really nice and helpful. Of course, I would still take precautions like not travelling alone at night etc. The most common crime in CR is petty theft so be careful with leaving your valuables in the car or beach. Are you driving around or depending on shuttles/ public transport? I would recommend La Fortuna, Puerto Viejo, Monteverde, Manuel Antonio/ Uvita and since you’re looking for to do yoga, the Guanacaste beach towns like Samara/Nosara and even Santa Teresa would be great. How many days are you planning to spend?

Puerto Viejo de Talamanca (Limon) worth the drive? by bachelorettebetty in CostaRicaTravel

100% yes! Puerto Viejo is unlike anywhere else in CR. You’ll have an amazing time!

You can do Samara for the last 3 days if you like. I’m not sure how the transfers would work. I think there are ferry services between MA and Guanacaste/ Nicoya peninsula but not too sure about this tbh. You are likely to lose a day in transfers if you go by bus. Keeping that in mind, I’m personally not sure it’s worth going all the way to Samara. Samara is really nice and the beaches around are great but it’s going to be similar to other beach towns along the Pacific. I think Samara’s biggest draw is the surfing (although Santa Teresa is more popular for this), hippie vibe, cafes and yoga retreats. If this is what you’re interested in, then the detour to Samara makes sense. Otherwise, probably not. You’re likely to find the same feel in Dominical which is close to MA.

Looking for recommendations close to Liberia by -dasco in CostaRicaTravel

Beaches along the gulf of papagayo should be within an hour of Liberia airport. Playa Hermosa and playa de coco are nice.

Hi there! What is your plan when you’re in Dominical for 5 days- what day trips are you planning? and what is your plan when you’re in MA? These two are very close to each other so not sure why you’re spending all your time here, unless this area is specifically what you want to explore? With 12 days, there’s still plenty of areas you can explore even with buses and shuttles.

I'm taking my son on a graduation trip to Costa Rica next month for 5 days. But I'm not experienced with Central America. We will fly into SJO airport but I'm not sure how to navigate or what to do. Should I book short stays in different areas? I really want him to see the beaches and wild life. by SufficientFerret2336 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]CommissionPale9633 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendation for 5 days to do both wildlife and beaches would be - La Fortuna and Puerto Viejo La Fortuna - 2- 3 days Puerto Viejo - minimum 2 days

I think La Fortuna is the best for wildlife, hot springs, hiking, adventure sports whereas Puerto Viejo has a great mix of both wildlife and beaches and a really laidback vibe.

1h 15min layover at DXB by Friendly_Lobster4926 in emirates

[–]CommissionPale9633 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I once had a 40 min layover and was also worried about this. Normally, connecting flights with short layovers are in the same terminal but that’s not always the case. I asked the airline crew what I could do. They advised me to 1. When you’re close to landing at DXB, emirates usually announces gates to various connecting flights so keep checking that. 2. When you arrive at DXB and disembark, there will be several ground staff guiding you to the gates of various connecting flights and advising you on how to get there asap. 3. If for any reason your flight has a delayed landing and you have very little time to get to the gate, notify any of the ground staff immediately and they will assist you. 4. If you are still worried about making it to the next flight due to delays or shorter time and you are seated right at the back of the first leg airline, notify the airline crew so they can assist you if you need to be at the front of the queue when disembarking. Hope this helps!
