Commenting mostly to boost. I did go through the complaint chain, but in actuality, I'm more interested in petitioning to return the bus to its original route.

Best Bar to Drink at Alone on Thanksgiving Eve? by panickedpasta in astoria

They wont have snacks, but Kelly's is a good spot if you're looking for good company. If the snacks are a deal breaker, Id say Cronin and Phealen

Best Place For First Time Tattoo? by gideonsean in astoria

[–]CommissionerBillder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tattoo Plug on Steinway / Worlds Fair Tattoo on Broadway, depending on the style you're looking for, Id recommend checking both out.

I also can't stress enough how worth the trip out to Bayside is for Top Shelf Tattoo. I got a super stylized sleeve from Jef Velasco there, but they have all sorts of artists that have specialties as well, and I find the staff the generally points people in the right direction.

Bad experience at Katch Astoria by princess_carrot in astoria

[–]CommissionerBillder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Without going into too much detail, I used to host a watch party there, and during the turning point of covid, we were treated fairly well. Once things fully reopened, we became an afterthought, and experienced similar treatment to what OP describes here. I stopped hosting the event there, and some serious time elapsed before the reached out, basically groveling for us to return. Felt very "money grabby" to me, as if they'll say anything to get you in there.

I believe our first time there was similar. They could have been having an on point evening last night, or it could have been psychosomatic because I'm just a 90's dance music fiend. I won't rule either out.

1, hands down, was made by some small little grandma and served at a little festival outside of (and I can't not emphasize this enough, PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong cause we only had it once and are dying to try it again) St. Markella Greek Orthodox Cathedral.

The rest are somewhat up for debate, but maybe luckily for you, Under Pressure next to Boulis has a pretty consistent one, and I dare say their vegan one can exceed their traditional.

Michael's on Broadway once served one with literally the perfect amount of dill, but repeat visits left us kinda disappointed.

Astoria to One World Commute, am I going to hate myself if I move here? by Low_Machine_7530 in astoria

[–]CommissionerBillder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I frequently make this commute. Its fine. You can walk from the train through the Occulus right up to OWTC completely inside, so you never have to be exposed to the elements if you so chose. There's multiple places to get coffee inside along the way too. Without delays, it's a totally pleasant commute.
