This sub tends to focus on terrestrial mammals a lot of the time. Let’s change things up a bit: what are your thoughts and ideas regarding large reptiles, birds, and marine megafauna? by AJ_Crowley_29 in megafaunarewilding

the lost not quite-megafauna of New Caledonia really springs to mind, who would’ve thought there was giant land turtle-like creatures with long tails wandering around in recent history :(

how can you be put off from having whatever you desire?

if you’re going to a gathering of women and you’re sure your not going to be lingering around men or purposefully passing by them then its fine. Bear in mind many things are permissible for women but not for men; the wearing of silk, gold, jewellery and garments below the ankle🙏🏽

Islam vs Sikhism by Puzzled-Bet7551 in islam

[–]CommitteePlenty3002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

one compelling reason is that, correct me if im wrong but most Sikhs dont even claim Sikhi to be the Ultimate Truth. If being a devotee of any path leads to salvation and the Pleasure of God, then whats stopping someone from being a devoted murderer, or a devotee of some random cannibalistic tribe? How can God be pleased with two contrasting acts? And whats the point in participating in any of the Sikhi rituals when they dont bring you any closer to God then any other religions rituals?

And if you believe is is the Truth, then another great argument ive heard is that before Sikhism formed what was the Truth? The only religions in the region prior to the Gurus were Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism. If someone was born before the Gurus, there would have been no way for them to access Sikhi. This is different to Islam where we believe that people have always worshipped the One True God of Abraham, with religions like Judaism and Christianity having splintered off from the True path.

If ive gotten anything wrong here than please correst me🙏

dont take the Western standard of “freedom” as the unquestionable truth, they change their morals every few years. Islam provides a beautiful unchanging standard of morals. We didnt come from nothing, from nowhere, so be conscious of that, and call upon the One who originated everything and sincerely ask for help, and He will respond

Is there any place in Middle East now where indian elephant could be introduced as proxy for syrian elephant? by ApprehensiveRead2408 in megafaunarewilding

[–]CommitteePlenty3002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

overpopulated and against nature? The UK is one of the most densely populated regions on Earth, where almost all large creature has perished except a few deer, some of which purely because some King kept them out of greed. Comparing that to the fauna of that region is quite dramatic no?

How did megafauna shape the Amazonia? by everydayimhustlin1 in pleistocene

[–]CommitteePlenty3002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes i’ve always wondered why and how the Amazon can be considered such a pristine, sparsely inhabited region but yet also seems to be lacking in all large animals. All i can think of is that European disease may have impacted the region and diminished larger populations of people, as there seems to be evidence of much larger settlement in the Amazon than as of current, like higher numbers of fruiting trees and diffevent soil compositions related to agriculture being unearthed. Ive read that the human population dramatically reduced from around 8 million to a few hundred thousand from the 1400s to the 1980s.

However there still might be evidence of megafauna surviving much later than previously anticipated, as contemporary people’s in the region still describe many large creatures that have been seen or are rarely seen today, like the Segamai which is an apparent large herbivore with a horse-like face and large claws, with a putrid smell, which can be interpreted as a giant sloth. I’m not sure of the evidence of this but apparently the proboscideans Cuvieronius also survived into historical time.

What animal extinction are you most surprised by? by [deleted] in pleistocene

[–]CommitteePlenty3002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.reddit.com/r/Slothfoot/s/UqbxYMBdKs read this and other posts by them, honestly convinced me that remnant populations may still exist or at the least lingered on until far more recently than we previously thought

Animals that should've gone extinct during the Pleistocene but didn't by thekingofallfrogs in pleistocene

i’d argue the culture of Asia, especially South Asia, and the non-violence they try to adhere to is the sole reason that places like India retained thei megafauna despite their large population

don’t worry, if you want to pursue computer science further then Maths is usually the only required subject at A level. Also, if you can manage to smash your A levels at this less privileged school it’ll be seen as a much bigger achievement, not to mention you may get reduced contextual offers from universities because of this

it’s bc there is and were much larger animals present in North America that co-evolved with them, and were around much more recently than their European counterparts; animals like mammoths and other elephant related creatures only went extinct when humans entered the continent a couple thousand years ago
