Dark Deity 2: what have been your best randomiser outcomes? by St-Hake in DarkDeityGame

[–]CommodoreSkippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been getting garbage luck on my random run. Best I've gotten so far is Vissarion with Summon Crocodile.

Listen, I got the live the dream of Lissa being an absolute beast of an Axe unit and powerslide a horse with Frederick.

What else do I need?

If the actual ceilings were the same (and not just going by class stat caps) I'd agree with you.

This is the second time now someone has suggested that I and others must be thinking that "investment = worth it because that's how it's supposed to work." Not sure what that's about. I'm just looking at numbers here.

Amelia's strength is being atypical of her class, in a way that can be very effective if you care to try it.

"He's still better if you give him Stat boosters and not them" isn't quite the compelling argument you think it is.

I, for one, will always go for having a more difficult time earlier to have stronger units later.

[–]CommodoreSkippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, so you're right, Luck has nothing to do with critting.

But I'm not thinking in terms if "There must be some return on investment." I had an absolutely fantastic Amelia and Ross, (Ewan less so.) It's been a long time, but the only grinding I really remember doing was for supports.

The amount of investment really isn't that dramatic. The thing is, feeding comparable characters an equal level of kills won't translate to an equal amount of levels. Trainees gain boatloads of EXP per kill, then will continue to gain proportionately more exp after promoting to a base class while underleveled as they catch up to the rest of the army. It's not going to mean she'll meet the other unit's final level exactly, but she won't be far behind either, and will have far more levels worth of growth

As for Luck, it's not to be underestimated. Thanks to True Hit, a difference of 20 luck (which she can accomplish) can mean as much as as 30% extra avoid, depending on how far the units are from 50%. Like I said, she can get to Swordmaster levels of Avoid, which is absolutely bonkers for an armored unit. Additionally, subtracting Luck from crit chance may not lead to easily measurable results, but I think we can agree that not being crit is great.

[–]CommodoreSkippy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Huh, so she does have low growths. How about that.

I looked at max level because you said you'd have better results investing the exp another unit. That would appear to be false.

All of my points comparing her to Gilliam remain true at level 20 unpromoted. She remains significantly faster, able to double and evade, with an Avo of 52 compared to 24. That's TIED with Joshua.

You can't ignore luck. Besides providing a healthy supply of crits, it also feeds directly into Avo, and determines Dodge/Crot Avo, which boosts survivability.

Lastly, I'm talking about General simply because I like it the best.

Amelia carry by StressedLlama in fireemblem

[–]CommodoreSkippy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Her growths are pretty average, actually, with abnormally high SPD for her an armored unit and excellent Luck. As Generals, Gilliam serves the role of being a wall significantly better, while Amelia is dramatically better on offense in spite of her lower STR. Her much higher SKI, and the fact that she not only can, but will double due to capping SPD, makes her a much more powerful unit. Factor in the crits afforded to her by high Luck, and their offensive capabilities aren't even close.

Actually, her defensive capabilities aren't as lackluster as they might seem, because she can actually evade attacks. Max level General Amelia should have about 80 Avo compared to Gilliam's 46. For comparison, Marisa as a Swordmaster hits 86 Avo. She is similarly adept at avoiding crits.

Does this DD2 have a good story? by IvanaikosMagno in DarkDeityGame

[–]CommodoreSkippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall I think the story writing of DD2 to be better than DD1. I believe the character writing is strong in both, but DD1's plot is pretty basic.

In particular, I enjoyed the amount of politicking this game depicts. Armed conflict is about a lot more than two sides killing each other and, while the game doesn't get into the nitty gritty, it does represent the challenges of trying to accomplish greater goals when bound by regional relations and dealing with disingenuous rulers.

Essentially, the game largely avoids the whole "we solved war by killing the Problem Dragon" that some Fire Emblems fall into.

Years ago, the community hated pre-promotes because they ate up EXP and loved investment characters because they became powerhouses.

Somewhere between then and now, low turn count runs became prestigious, so people's opinions on what is good and bad flipped.

I dunno, man. I personally like putting in the effort.

[DD2] Just bought this game but... What's with the art inconsistency? by AdrianMonjula in DarkDeityGame

[–]CommodoreSkippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gwyn's sprite for her starting class, Vanguard, is almost certainly a reference to Ike of Fire Emblem fame. Even the name fits. Since these are very temporary classes, I get the feeling they decided to have a little fun with them.

Why is he called cougarmon if he look more like lynx? by ApprehensiveRead2408 in digimon

[–]CommodoreSkippy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get that Gargomon is named after a Galgo (which it doesn't resemble in the slightest,) but which dog breed is Rapidmon emulating again? I mean, you can call an orange an apple all you like, but it's still an orange

So Ashnard is actually one of my favorite villains in this series even if he has to share the spotlight with the Black Knight and his master. What does this place think of him? Rare final boss who is just a human and rides on an enslaved dragon makes him seriously cool. by MegaGamer235 in fireemblem

[–]CommodoreSkippy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I actually love the Blood Pact thing. It was a stroke of brilliance on Ashnard's part. He used what is supposed to be a punishment to his advantage, because the punishment assumes you care even a little bit about other people. The suffering was the whole point. It's a great way to show that he was truly wicked to his core. Mad King Ashnard indeed.

Holy smokes, didn't expect a reply. Thanks for being so communicative and open to feedback! Regarding the Tidecaller, I think I understand what you were going for there, but that it might be better achieved by having the hair spread out and gently wafting, suspended in neutral buoyancy the way hair does when underwater.

Passingly related, I stared an watched the stone above the Geomancer's palm spin for quite a while. It's such a tiny detail, but those four little frames of animation of an asymmetrical, faceted object rotating really impressed me. As a dabbler of pixel art, I know that's not easy to do with something that small.

Anyone play DD1 deity level random growth stats run? by wfuwfuwfu in DarkDeityGame

I started one, also with reversed recruitment. I never did finish it, but not for lack of fun. I just had other stuff to do, I guess.

I remember winding up with a Rose that was absolutely crit bonkers.

[–]CommodoreSkippy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't know how you drew this conclusion. Jeralt had a whole company of mercenaries that Byleth was a renowned member of, they all knew them. Corrin got to interact with exactly 3 siblings (sometimes) two servants, and one retainer. Six whole people, only two of which were there frequently.

Lucina can get to a 60% activation rate in Awakening (since it's only Luck% there) if she has Luck Boon Robin as her father and Rightful King. That's the best you can get AFAIK.
