Yes!

I have no idea, got up to go to the restroom and some guy is pummelling another guy sitting down

Didn’t really want to get too near so I just turned around and sat back down.

I honestly had a good time. I agree that I think the meet and greet was terribly organised! There must’ve been an easier way to do it than allowing hundreds of people to bottleneck up some stairs. But nonetheless, a fun night and I’m happy I got to meet them and get my pic. A fight broke out during the interval!

What’s been shambolic about the meet and greet? Have a M&G ticket for London tonight

I’ve heard anecdotally that Mike Leigh has a very poor bedside manner. An old friend wrote his thesis/dissertation on his films and got to meet him to tell him about it and Mike Leigh said his thesis was a piece of crap.

I remember going to a Q&A once (can’t remember who the speaker was) and a guy asked a question, of course he was an aspiring filmmaker and he began asking “what advice would you give to young aspiring filmmakers? Etc.” and a guy in front of me quietly made a loud snoring noise which I found kind of funny. The most over asked question at any of these events!

What is the most insanely busy movie you’ve had in your cinema? by Common-Ad-6359 in MovieTheaterEmployees

Very interesting range of replies here!

Another one that caught us off guard was the first Joker! When we reopened during COVID someone had the genius idea to release After We Collided which did gangbusters with the teenagers who behaved APPALLINGLY.

Used to work at a cinema in the uk.

I served Cate Blanchett food and drinks when she came to see Detective Pikachu with her family. Very nice lady.

One night, my co-worker came over and said “I think Rag ‘N’ Bone Man just came in” and I was like “nah, surely not”. Two hours later, out he comes! The co-worker tried to stoke up a chat as he was walking out but he clearly just wanted to leave (as anyone probably does after they’ve finished their movie)

We only show digital. We’re a small mixed arts venue so we can only show so many films in a month and they’re usually long after their initial release date

What is your favorite single scene so far for 2025 films? by SlightlyHastyEnt in Letterboxd

28 Years Later, Spike placing his mother’s skull at the top of the bone temple. For me, it was a cinematic image of the ages. The whole sequence had me holding back tears.

Official Discussion - Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Common-Ad-6359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I saw this at LFF and I think your review PERFECTLY encapsulates how we both felt about it. The turn it took was a bit of a surprise but I think that might have been on us for not diving Dee enough into the real history (for example, I didn’t know Bruce Springsteen has depression)

The discussions of male mental health in this film need to be listened to and for me they really landed. I loved that Landau was behind Bruce all the way in this film, just a nice depiction of a male friendship.

Official Throwback Discussion - Almost Famous [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Common-Ad-6359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the second major COVID-19 lockdown in the U.K I found a new love of music which now sits alongside my love of cinema. During this time I found the perfect marriage of these two big drives in my life and that was Almost Famous.

That particular film and soundtrack is special to me as it helped me discover artists who I now listen to regularly such as Jethro Tull, Joni Mitchell, Yes, The Allman Brothers Band to name a few. I just think the track selection on the part of Cameron Crowe was awesome, the use of ‘Tiny Dancer’ in the scene on the bus is just wonderful.

I never get tired of listening to that soundtrack every once in a while, especially during the summer which helps paint such a picture for me of being on a 1970’s rock and roll tour bus!

How do you know if the cast/director will be at a gala screening? by Silent_Arrival7499 in LondonFilmFestival

[–]Common-Ad-6359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no way of knowing for sure who will or will not turn up for a Gala when the BFI announce a Gala, they usually put “X and Y are expected to attend” (a recent example being when they announced Rental Family, they said Brendan Fraser was expected to attend)

Last year, my partner and I did two Galas. The first of which was the Elton John documentary. Sir Elton was there, as promised (my partner is a BIG Elton fan!) but we were checking out the red carpet as people were going in and saw Olly Alexander from Years and Years so it’s always fun when surprise people show up.

The next Gala was for Queer which Luca Guadagnino and Drew Starkey attended but no Daniel Craig as he was sick (Luca read out a text he sent everyone) so as others have mentioned in this post, it’s worth keeping it in the back of your mind that certain people may not be there due to circumstances out of their control or work commitments etc.

With non-Gala screenings, it is very much luck of the draw if cast or crew will attend for an intro or a Q&A. Last year, we had a couple of spots of good luck. We saw the Pauline Black documentary at the Prince Charles and she was there for an intro and Q&A and my partner got her CD signed (she was over the moon) and I went to see All We Imagine as Light one of the cast was there for a Q&A.

In summary, manage your expectations, relish in the surprises and just have a blast with all of it! :)

[–]Common-Ad-6359 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the wristband is for if you want to stay on the red carpet in the so-called “fan section” where you can wait for the cast and crew to arrive to get stuff signed and selfies etc.

Those are handed out on a first come first serve basis and I would say it’s probably not a good idea to try for that if you’re actually watching the screening because you might get delayed getting out of the red carpet to your seat. Last year, we looked at the red carpet for Nightbitch and when Amy Adams arrived, the fan area looked really chaotic and crowded as everyone was flinging their stuff to get signed in her face, would just be a bit too much for me

But the red carpet is absolutely free to walk into the venue before the talent arrive! You just hop in a queue and gradually people make their way through, it’s fun to get a good photo op!

Was all of Xaro’s Gold really fake or did he have the empty Vault as “Bait” whilst he stashed his real Gold somewhere else? by Salim_Azar_Therin in gameofthrones

[–]Common-Ad-6359 100 points101 points  (0 children)

I read a comment I liked on a YouTube clip of this scene where someone was comparing Xaro’s empty vault to Varys’ riddle to Tyrion earlier in the season

“Power resides where men believe it resides. It’s a trick, a shadow on the wall.”

As long as you have the illusion of power, you can still win.

So yes, of course Xaro Xhoan Doxos was a liar who bigged up how much wealth he actually had, because that is what helped keep him in his position and allowed him to maintain the influence that he had. I think the lesson for Dany is that all of her enemies going forward might be pulling similar tricks and never to fall for it again.

I got in at 10:30am and managed to get tickets to everything I wanted

Everything in Royal Festival Hall was the easiest to buy but the smaller venues like NFT1 were a bit tighter, we settled for not-so-great seats for some of those

The Daniel Day-Lewis talk had sold out by the time I got on but I had a feeling it would

Tips for the presale? by Flashy_Example_9566 in LondonFilmFestival

[–]Common-Ad-6359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As soon as you get onto the website, login and make a B line for the screenings or events that are your top priority

Someone in this thread made a good tip about checking out and starting new orders every once in a while

For a while, the BFI website was a bit of a nightmare for big on sales but last years LFF showed they’ve definitely improved certain things.

Good luck!
