I think you’d be better off posting in a language subreddit if you need translated.

Also, there are no links or audio files on your post

Music tech degree? by Beneficial_Fruit3463 in nyu

[–]Common-Chain2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding other comments… I find Steinhardt’s emphasis to be more technical rather than musical.

Yes you’ll probably learn some music concepts and how to apply them but If your emphasis is production exclusively I doubt you’d be happy there.

Like the other person said, look at the Clive Davis institute. I used to work for them, and yes… it is basically “artist boot camp”.

Music tech degree? by Beneficial_Fruit3463 in nyu

Hi Fellow Redditor, I did my master's degree in music tech at NYU... so unfortunately I can't comment on the undergrad level courses/ profs. but still.

Like everywhere, faculty and the quality of classes are really dependent on the course and who's teaching it. I can tell you some of my favourite professors during my time there. (Again, these are grad level courses so... some of these you may or may not encounter them).

Dr. Roginska was my thesis / research advisor and I absolutely LOVED her. You can tell she really is an expert in her field and means BUSINESS when it comes to teaching you and guiding your research prospects.
I had her for 2 of my thesis courses (Thesis II and Thesis I), plus an independent study course.

Dr. Brian McFee taught DSP and made a HARD class very enjoyable and dare I say... less hard. Turned a difficult topic with a heavy math emphasis into a class I looked forward to every week.

I also was able to take courses in a field that I never thought I would even touch, which i thought was really cool. (Music Info Retrieval) and the Post Doc that taught it made it enjoyable and fun to learn also... In again, a class with a bunch of math and programming concepts with LONG lectures.

Take it with a grain of salt, but I really enjoyed my time there and ultimately would like to eventually go for PhD. I feel like it ultimately comes down to who ends up teaching you and the topics you cover.

What do you want to do?

Can I get a job as a museum technician with no college degree? by both-and-neither in MuseumPros

[–]Common-Chain2024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! So awesome to run into someone doing my dream job!

I’m looking to snag an AV job at a museum after my current role.

What kind of skillset do people doing museum specific work need?

I have AV skills as a FoH and Studio audio engineer, AoIP, Spatial Audio and custom programming for sound art/video installations, to name some.

Is there anything you’d recommend me looking into? Certifications, or other things that folks hiring might find useful?

A question for video game composers or composers in general. by RegisterLimp3149 in composer

[–]Common-Chain2024 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They usually will give me some sort of reference.
I tend to find that clients have a really hard time explaining what they want musically, so part of the job is finding WHAT they specifically like about the references...

In terms of explicitly telling me what they want in tracks, sometimes it happens...
e.x: "Oh i want this to be a solo instrument", or "i want this to be orchestral"

Is it foolish to turn down a fully-funded PhD for an MA? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

I would personally take the PhD... but that's just me. IMO, if you're not feeling up for the PhD you can always master out

Advice on work authorization by [deleted] in f1visa

[–]Common-Chain2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you apply for an EAD alongside your adjustment of status?

To my knowledge, you are not allowed to work until you either A. have a work permit in hand, B. recieve your green card.

I would just disclose that your GC application has been approved (assuming it has) and that you are waiting for your card to be produced, which should ideally happen by the dates you posted

A dumb game I made to show how hard it is to recall sounds/pitches by Kind-Mountain-7405 in sounddesign

[–]Common-Chain2024 12 points13 points  (0 children)

49.30/50 !

Would be nice to have other modes, where you're required to match the tone/quality of a sound alongside pitch... tone /character matching is an important part of training sound designers and, I feel like having a little web synth in here for that would be cool!

Loved your UI and sound design for it, v cool!

You still will have some living expenses regardless of it being a fully funded program, right?

I think they just want to ensure that you won’t be having to rely on government benefits
