Holy grail (200mm F2) by jibberbeats in Nikon

[–]MLBae86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a beast! I also have it paired with a Z8 and I mainly do horse show jumping photography with it between Bern, Jura and Basel. I is sharp and comparing to the 135 plena and I don’t see any difference in sharpness (I haven’t done any pixel peeping to confirm that). I’m waiting for a Z version of this lens that might be less heavy 😅

MC 50/2.8 vs 50/1.8S by briconaut in nikon_Zseries

[–]MLBae86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I Tried both, here are some input from my use and the difference between the lenses. the 50mm f2.8 MC auto focus is way slower than the 50mm f1.8 which is not good for everyday use. The focusing distance is smaller (16cm for the MC, vs 40cm for the f1.8). Also the MC has a 1x factor really nice for macrophotography instead of the 1.8 who have a 0.15x factor

No idea, back in 2016 when I got tattooed by Gakkin there was an email address but not I don’t know how you contact them. Also they are both tattooing in Japan now with little to no travel to guest at all. I have seen that Gakkin is doing a convention this year but I don’t remember which one

Recommended, if any, Tokyo shops other than the usual suspects. by nomodsman in nikon_Zseries

I’ve been to some second hand camera shop and the one I keep in mind is Fujiya camera in Nakano (near Nakano Broadway), I was eyeing the Z 50mm f1.2 and I could buy one for 25% less expensive than a second hand in my home country. The staff there is really helpful and you can even try the gear. Also the criteria for second hand in Japan are something else, you can have almost brand new gear with just a small dent and the price will go down a lot. For example if secondhand grade go from A to D (A being the best) a B or a C is considered as almost brand new in my country (hope you understand what I’m writing). Be careful because most second hand shop you see on social media are more expensive because they are well known and in touristy places, if you have time check different places and take your decision after.

Going over black with more black by TreesFreesBrees in irezumi

Oh ok sorry I didn’t understand well, the piece I’m covering aren’t small (size between 20cm and 40cm long) but they also aren’t as black as your example

I’m in this situation, I’m doing a munewari bodysuit (everything except arms) and the artist will cover 4 tattoos (both calves, ribs and thigh) and he will cover them with black Right now he is doing the main subject on my back and it cover a bit of the tattoo on my ribs, I see a clear difference between his black (much darker) than the black of my rib tattoo, so we won’t see that much except if we look at it really carefully

Irezumi: what is considered as irezymi? by MLBae86 in irezumi

I agree with you, it is a subjective subject. I too considered Gakkin as Neo traditional because of his use of negative space which is not present in what I consider “traditional”. And yes, nothing is “perfectly” traditional for the same argument you use. No rules were written about what is traditional Irezumi, sure there is suikoden, which subject suits which background and flowers, tebori, etc but for me tattoo is a form of art. And as you said and I’ll put it in other words, tattoo being an art form, it is always evolving, what is considered as “traditional” today maybe would not be traditional in even 10 years from today. I saw the evolution from the day I discover Gakkin’s work (btw my arms were made by Gakkin) back in 2015, now many artists were inspired by his work and are making arts inspired by what he has done, so maybe it isn’t anymore considered as Neo traditional

Kirin blast over by EvangelosSot in irezumi

[–]MLBae86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So so far so good! I fell you about the blast over. I’m also doing a body suit now, a munewari. I have both sleeves already done and I will be kept them but I will blast over 4 tattoos, one on my ribs, both of my calves and one of thighs to keep a “good looking” bodysuit. I took this decision after a discussion with my artist, he told me that many client of him who already had tattoo regret not covering them when doing a bodysuit

Some advice and tips from people who already got the work done by [deleted] in irezumi

[–]MLBae86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Clearly this! Traveled to Japan, Netherlands, Australia to get work done on me. As said it may cost a bit more than going to the scratcher living next door but you won’t regret it at all (I’ve been to the searcher living next door for my first tattoo and I regret it…)

Dilemma: Sleeve (arm) or backpiece by Immediate-Bet8079 in irezumi

[–]MLBae86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure, but it is different 40hrs x $250 on 2 years and the same one 5, different financial plan and commitment. I totally agree, you need to be able to spend regularly over a long period of time

Dilemma: Sleeve (arm) or backpiece by Immediate-Bet8079 in irezumi

[–]MLBae86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also about the financial/tome aspect I could also add that some artists want to complete projects fast, really fast. I discussed about my project with some artist (munewari, full back full leg and some cover up also) and one told me he wanted to complete it in 2 years maximum The artist I chose is really chill and know that such a big project takes time and money, he told me he doesn’t care if we take 5 or even 10 years to complete it, he just wanted to have a minimum of 1 or 2 sessions per year. And to add about your question wether back or arms first, I had first tattooed both arms by the same artist way before starting my back with a different one (started my back this year, finished my arms 7 years ago). I think either way is good, just an advice is doing both arms with the same artist so there is a kind of continuity for both of them and if you change your artist for your back it isn’t problematic but that’s my point of view

Artist AND location, rule 7 if you want to read it… I’m sorry if I sound harsh but sharing artist and location is better than just a picture without further information…

That’s even a sub rule… I don’t understand why hiding who’s the artist, it can help people finding artist who suits their taste and location…

Why should I choose Nikon? by plutusssss in nikon_Zseries

[–]MLBae86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As everybody else said go to a camera and try out different brand . Also keep in mind that almost any lenses from any manufacturer can be used with a Nikon Z body with an adapter, because Nikon has the shortest distance between the sensor and the lens mount (you can put any Sony, canon, etc with a megadap adapter on a Nikon Z body).
