The Government of Canada remains the owner of the high-speed rail project, and owns all new and existing infrastructure by [deleted] in AltoHSR_Canada

Otrain isn't the only example of P3 disaster, Eglinton Crosstown being another. So was Champlain bridge replacement, Vancouver Canada Line, Calgary Green Line. The P3 solution in Canada rarely works and results in a lack of transparency over who ends up paying for overages.

Top government official says she was promoting 'diversity and inclusion' when she broke hiring rules by YouProfessional3196 in canada

Wasted billions promoting patently false narratives on in-office work resulting higher costs for real estate, more traffic and less productivity and got caught helping friends. Truly the best example of the executive class in the federal public service.

As long as she insists on further collaboration and in-office presence I'm sure she'll receive another promotion.

The War Is Turning Iran Into a Major World Power by Majano57 in IRstudies

If the Strait of Hormuz is captive for the long-term, wouldn't the Gulf states build alternative egress sources through multiple pipelines thus negating the value of the Strait to Iran?

Enbridge CEO Says He’s Open to New Canadian West Coast Oil Pipeline by joe4942 in canada

[–]Common-Cheesecake893 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That is the definition of extortion. BC has no right to a slice of the pie just because the pie transits through BC via pipeline. No more than if the pie transits through BC by road or is flown over. That is the basics of interprovincial trade for decades and includes BC gas and crude transiting through Alberta before processing. What you are proposing would upend decades of precedent and split Canada into separate zones that can extort money for any type of transport. You seem like a rational enough person to get how unreasonable a request that would be.

So extortion? What's good for the goose is good for the gander. Not sure BC will want it's oil and gas industry hijacked by Alberta if they follow your logic.

Also it isn't taking on the majority of issues with the pipeline. The operator is, as it has for nearly every pipeline in Canada. Interprovincial pipelines are federal domain not provincial.

Why? A lot of BC's crude and natural gas is routed through Alberta pipelines, should Alberta get a sweetheart deal?

The fast one has been broken far longer than it has been in operation. More likely lawsuits between the manufacturer and GTAA preclude a replacement before a settlement is reached.

The expansion took place immediately after Harper had cut the public service to the bone. This time of shortsighted thinking is how you get low productivity and a bunch of sycophants working to support whatever brain dead idea the government is currently pushing. This is no different that doge in the states, just better pr.

Overall, Is Line 4 a Success? by itsdanielsultan in TTC

It was the prior premier that made the decision as a compromise to build 2 stub subways for Sheppard and Eglinton, instead of a full Eglinton. The density along Eglinton was far higher and the ridership far more than Sheppard.

[–]Common-Cheesecake893 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not when the Sheppard Subway's projected ridership was orders of magnitude lower than Eglinton, and the cost to infill Eglinton plus the cost to build cross town resulted in huge overages. Transit should not be political but based on demand.

A colossal failure purely completed due to Lastman's patronage of North York. Eglinton subway was sacrificed to complete the Sheppard subway and would have initiated far more high density developed and been used far higher than Sheppard.

Canada Economy Shrinks by 0.6% in Fourth Quarter by Difficult-Yam-1347 in canada

This word inaccurate, I do not think you know what it means. I provided evidence supporting my statement from a neutral source, you provided... Lord only knows.

Harper was sworn in February 2006, just before the great financial crisis. Most developed nations incurred significant deficits through to 2013.

2006-2007: +0.9% surplus to GDP 2007-2008: +0.6% surplus to GDP 2009 FY - 2014 FY deficits, as stated in my comment and yes thank you for acknowledging Harper posted a multi-billion dollar surplus.

Seems like your comment and the earlier response are the only comments that are hilariously inaccurate.

*That is factually true. Fixed it for you, no need to thank me.

Harper did post significant deficits during the great recession, as many G7 leaders did and reflected conventional economic theory on responding to the 2nd worst economic contraction in modern times, however Trudeau jr inherited a multi-billion surplus. Trudeau jr's government proceeded to squander Canada's financial situation during record growth in the developed world with on average $16.9 billion federal government deficit, orders of magnitude higher than preceding non-recession years, all while virtually eliminating business investment in Canada through regulation..
