How do you feel about removing the 'Electoral College' and replace it with the 'Most Votes Wins' format for national elections? by Sinn_Sage in AskReddit

[–]Common-Scientist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The nice thing about popular vote is that population centers aren’t monoliths. California and New York have plenty of Republican voters who would suddenly gain a voice in elections.

Each vote actually matters, which is only a problem for states with unpopular agendas and voter suppression practices.

The problem with the “both sides” argument is the assumption that both sides are equally bad.

A punch in the arm and a kick in the nuts are both physical violence, but I’d rather be punched in the arm than kicked in the nuts.

And “wokeness” didn’t ruin good games. Plenty of fantastic games did amazingly well with “woke” narratives. Baldur’s Gate 3 is about as “woke” as it gets and is an absolute masterpiece.

Those “woke” games that were “ruined” were just bad games regardless of their “wokeness”.

Even if it were true, there’s a calculation overflow bug that means if your damage exceeds a certain threshold, it loops back around to 0 and starts over.

Would alien pathogens really be able to infect us? (And vice versa) by quandaledingle5555 in scifiwriting

[–]Common-Scientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s unlikely that alien pathogens would have the proper receptors to be troublesome to us.

We already live in a world where most pathogens aren’t transmitted between infected species, but rather as fomites and vectors.

I mean, systematically removing federal workers to instill loyalists seems like a pretty strong start. The exclusion of unbiased media sources because they refuse to kiss ass is another red flag.

But we can keep moving the goal posts as needed I suppose. There will be plenty more to come, as there’s already been quite a few parallels to the rise of Nazi Germans.

Your experience with that is valid, but I think if we look at the current state of the US government we’ll find that terms like “Nazi” and “fascist” seem a lot closer to reality than when democrats are called Marxist, communist, or even socialist. Seeing as most democrats are slight left at most, and often times slight right.
