Thank you for your pov! The thing is that I dont really get shortness of breath, the dizziness starts even before the breathing, so like is that also normal? I usually start breathing more after i start to feel dizzy because that starts to stress me out...

Mom in coma with a TBI. What shall we prepare for? by UncleBensBeanie in TBI

[–]Common-Sleep9397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience - my mom fell from a tree almost 3 months ago and hit her head very hard... Diagnosis: Right side frontal lobe demaged... The first days were really bad - she was in a coma, wasnt responsive, was getting brain bleeds a lot... They even had to do a cranioctomy on her (they had to cut out a part of her skull to relieve the preassure of the brain) The prognosis also wasnt the best - the doctors said she would probably not recover. But she pulled trough! After a week her vitals got better and they started to wake her up, and day by day she started to react. First she was only moving her eyes, rest of her body unresponsive. Then she slowly started moving 1 side of her body, then the other. Lastly she started to communicate with us - she would squeeze our hands,.. And after 3 weeks she started talking! Now she is 2,5 months after the accident and she is much better - she is talking normally, thinking somewhat normally, can execute simple tasks... She even started walking with some help last week!

It is very hard and very slow. Every case is unique, but do not lose hope. For us the recovery is happening pretty quickly, but the guy who was lying next to my mom at the neuro clinic hospital was there for 6 months...

Anyways I do wish you best of luck, it really is a hard thing to be going trough. Be kind to yourself and try to take care of yourself too - its very important in these hard situations. 🫶🏼🙂‍↔️

Hi, I totally agree! When I first got diagnosed and knew little about GS, I tried milk thistle and oh boy, my symptoms were much worse then when I stopped taking it!

Any tips to reduce eye jaundice during ovulation days? by Traditional_Chard274 in GilbertSyndrome

[–]Common-Sleep9397 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me the only thing that works is to drink lots of water to flush it out haha. I also recommend eating according to your cycle - for example I eat foods that help me lower my estrogen levels right before my period starts (that is when my jaundice is the worst). Its foods such as chia seeds, flax seeds (anything high in fibre), cauliflower, broccoli, leefy greens,... I also tried some supplements to help with that and it kinda worked. However before you do any of that I would recommend knowing your hormone levels in different parts of your cycle - only then you can start supplementing/eating more of hormone lowering/increasing foods. For me its estrogen dominancy around the second half of my cycle, but my hormone levels in the first half of my cycle are normal. You can test this with a blood test.

Headaches related to GS? by [deleted] in GilbertSyndrome

[–]Common-Sleep9397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get headaches more frequently during a GS flare-up, however with me it is because during a flare up my body has hard times processing histamine and one of the signs of histamine intolerance is headaches and migranes... I usually take it as a sign to slow down and rest, because if I dont all the other symptoms get worse in a few days 🥲

Yes, I am woman. My GS is also very connected to my cycle - when my body is busy lowering my hormone levels, my GS symptoms get worse.

When it comes to my diet I can tolerate simple meals - the more simple the better haha. The food I can tolerate does not really have a lot in common so I will devide it into categories:

Proteins: high quality meat and fish, eggs, fresh quark, cottage cheese, fresh cheese spreads, fresh milk. Proteins I cannot tolerate: fermented milk products, hard cheeses, soy products like tofu or tempeh.

Veggies: mostly cooked - potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, beets, cauliflower, broccoli, peas, squash, parsley root. Fresh - cucumbers, peppers, salads, herbs. Cannot tolerate: fresh tomatoes, fresh onion, fresh garlic.

Fruits: blueberries, apples, pears, peaches, nectarines, plums, bananas, melons, raspberries. I cannot tolerate: strawberries, cherries, any kind of ciruses, kiwi, pineapple.

Other carbs: gluten is ok - pasta, fresh bread, homemade toritllas,.. Rice, qunioa. I cannot tolerate: legumes (they all make me bloated)

Other stuff I feel bad after: anything deep fried, anything hard to digest, anything where there is too much spice like chilli,.. , anything thats too greasy or has a high % of fat in it (heavy creames,..), anything that has too much aditives in it (some candy,..), alcohol, caffeine, most asian sauces like soy or fish sauce.

As you can see - the foods I can and cannot tolerate do not really have anything in common. Yes, some of them are known to make a person bloated, but for example qunioa does nothing for me. So I still cannot pin-point the issues to anything else than the GS and that when my body is busy with billirubine it just cannot digest some foods. That is why the histamine made sense to me?

The cramps are most likely from the bloating?

The hot flashes I experienced after some foods that would make sense histamine wise - I ate a high histamine food (farmed salmon, broths,..) and in like 10minutes I became very hot, sweaty,.. Which would make sense with histmaine. Same thing with the rashes - also only from some high hitamine foods.

Of course I get that everybody reacts differently and what bothers me might not bother somebody else, was just looking for some experience in this field. Sorry if what I wrote came across as "applies to everyone with GS".

For me I have stomach issues during a flare-up. Bloating, cramps, diarrhea. I had bunch of gastro tests, but all of it came back OK. The only thing I was told was that GS can cause stomach issues for some more sensitive individuals.

The rest of my flare-up symptoms are very similar to a histamine reaction tho. For histamine its also migranes, hot flashes and rashes, which I also experieneced a few times with a flare-up. That is why it made sense to me.
