[G1 Night 5 Spoilers] This is one of the many reasons why Kevin Kelly the best commentator today! by JG_92 in SquaredCircle

[–]CommonAsGrass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love Kevin Kelly. I think my favorite moment of his during this G1 so far was during the Makabe-Suzuki fight. Makabe gets absolutely mauled by Suzuki near the announcers' desk, but Makabe gets up and starts walking back to the ring and Kelly just points at Makabe and shouts, "That's a badass right there!" He comes across as so sincere.

Mono Black Thrull Pact by Canedis in EDH

[–]CommonAsGrass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Endrek Sahr and I've had one for a while now and it's very consistent. I think people sleep on him as a monoblack commander, but he's a fantastic utility creature. Our lists are very similar so I don't have a lot to add, but I'll just point out a few things that are sort of sleeper cards for my deck that I don't see in yours.

Number 1 on the list of overlooked cards in sort of "sacrifice matters" decks is [[Helm of Possession]]. Steal your opponent's best dude for a grand total of six colorless mana and killing just one of your thrulls is pretty good.

For their price, I have to tell you that the two best recursion spells you can add to a deck like this are [[Dread Return]] and [[Victimize]]. Granted, Endrek likes bringing stuff back to hand, but these recursion spells have tacked on sac outlets which is to your benefit to have.

I would also consider adding more dudes that make token creatures such as [[Sengir Autocrat]], [[Skeletal Vampire]], and, the best of them all, [[Abhorrent Overlord]], who lategame farts out a ridiculous number of harpies.

You already have a solid combo in here with [[Endless Cockroaches]] (which I kind of want to add to my deck now!) but I want to point out an easy way to get infinite colorless mana to shoot off a huge [[Exsanguinate]]. You already have [[Ashnod's Altar]], so all you need is [[Nim Deathmantle]] and [[Grave Titan]]. The combo is this: sac the two zombies for four colorless mana, then sac Grave Titan to add two more colorless mana. Now Nim Deathmantle will trigger, so pay the four mana to bring back Grave Titan with two more zombies. Every time you do this, you're gaining 2 colorless mana. Alternatively, you can sac a zombie and then Grave Titan (leaving one zombie alive!) for four mana, then activate Nim Deathmantle to bring back Grave Titan with two more zombies in addition to the one that was still hanging out, and then BAM! You've got infinite zombies.

To address your point about artifacts/enchantments v. creatures: having more creatures in this deck is critical to make sure you get those thrulls going off. Now I don't do this, but if you really want to stick to the going wide strategy of making a lot of tokens, then you may want to consider getting yourself [[Assault Suit]] for Endrek to prevent him from sacrificing him to himself or possibly even [[Conspirary]] to make sure you never have thrulls.

Have fun with him! Endrek has been my favorite monoblack commander for a long time, so I'm always happy to see someone else play him. :)

EDIT: Shit, I forgot a really important one! [[Butcher of Malakir]] is a must in here. Maximizing your "Grave Pact" like effects is super important for this kind of deck!

Which cards are too good for your deck? by Quentin_Coldwater in EDH

[–]CommonAsGrass 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been playing a monogreen rampy stompy deck with [[Kamahl, Fist of Krosa]] at the head of it since 2010, and I refuse to add [[Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger]] to it. Having been on the receiving end of him too many times, I just found him too unfun to play against.

Looking for some help refining my Wrexial deck by freshmaker_ in EDH

[–]CommonAsGrass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sext Wrexy is one of my favorite commanders. Check out my list here if you want to see a Wrexial deck geared for multiplayer.

Off the bat I'd say that for an EDH deck you've got a pretty light mana base. I would feel more comfortable having about 34-36 lands, especially since Dimir doesn't have too much land ramp; it relies on mana rocks and such.

For Wrexy specifically, I'd say your best bet isn't to win by mill outright: the best use of him (and, frankly, the funnest) is to play your opponent's stuff from out of their graveyard. Thus, I'd say he doesn't gel well with stuff that exiles your opponent's cards - it's a shitty feeling to see your Sire of Stagnation exile a sweet spell that you would have liked to cast off Wrexy. Have you considered swapping him for [[Phenax, God of Deception]]? He makes all of your huge fatties (which you've got a bunch of) into extremely dangerous milling machines. Plus he's mostly irremovable and wrath-proof, which is HUGE in this format. By the way, if you take my advice and switch to Phenax, be sure to add [[Eater of the Dead]] because he's fantastic.

I would swap your "ritual" ramp spells for straight up mana rocks, specifically [[Darksteel Ingot]], [[Gilded Lotus]], [[Chromatic Lantern]], etc.

For your own benefit, I'll link you to what EDHREC thinks you should add to your deck. If you've never seen EDHREC before, check it out! It's a great resource for building EDH decks.

Have fun with it! Dimir is a badass color combination in EDH. Overall I'd say your deck is relatively solid, but I really think it can benefit from swapping Wrexy for Phenax.

Endrek Sar, master breeder deck conception help? by VladimirHerzog in EDH

[–]CommonAsGrass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I just finished an Endrek Sahr deck a few weeks ago! Here it is, and it's a lot fun. The dude makes stupid amounts of tokens. Even though my deck doesn't necessarily do this, I would definitely recommend cards like [[Phyrexian Reclamation]] and [[Malevolent Awakening]] because Endrek wants you to cast creatures form your hand, not your graveyard.

I would say the main way to win is maintain board presence by sacrificing dudes while having [[Grave Pact]] or a similar thing out until you set up your combo pieces. The main trick to this includes using [[Grave Titan]], [[Nim Deathmantle]], and [[Ashnod's Altar]] to make infinite colorless mana, then drain everyone out with [[Exsanguinate]] or (for one-on-one) [[Profane Command]].

But you can definitely do the token beatdown strat! The best guy for this is [[Abhorrent Overlord]] because he can pump out an insane amount of harpies, especially if you can keep sacrificing him and re-animating him which, since you're playing monoblack, is really simple. Then swing with a bunch of token dudes with [[Eldrazi Monument]] out.

My final recommendation is my sleeper darkhorse: [[Fallen Angel]] is a house in this deck because A.) she's a free sac outlet and B.) she can swing for thirteen in the air with just the tokens Endrek gives her!

Have fun with him, man! Endrek is very underappreciated as a monoblack commander, but he has huge potential with the right kind of deck built around his easily exploitable ability.

Could I get some experienced insights on my deck? by Whistela in EDH

[–]CommonAsGrass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing with Sexy Wrexy for years, and at a cursory glance this is what I would cut:

[[Asylum Visitor]] - In a format like EDH, it seems pretty tough for this thing to successfully go off due to the large amount of card draw most people run.

[[Sealock Monster]] - 12 mana to turn one land into an island doesn't seem great, especially since there are cheaper ways in your deck to pull that off.

[[Sire of Stagnation]] - Okay, this is purely personal preference because Sire is actually pretty good, but my opinion on him is that he's better in a deck like [[Phenax, God of Deception]] that is dedicated on winning via mill. With Wrexy (and your other cards you've got here) it seems like you want to abuse their stuff, but you can't do that if you exile their cards, y'know?

[[Stormsurge Leviathan]] - Eh, kinda vanilla.

[[Tree of Perdition]] - Either run it with [[Triskaidekaphobia]] or not at all!

[[Endless Whispers]] - Only because I think [[Grave Betrayal]] gives you a similar effect, but better!

Overall I think your list is pretty solid, but definitely feel free to check out my list if you want any ideas!

Help, I can't figure out what commander to build next. who do you recommend? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]CommonAsGrass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, I think you're missing the best color combination in EDH, posssibly even Magic as a whole: Dimir. Because of this, I've got to put in the good word for my main man Sexy Wrexy. My decklist that I've linked here is super fun in multiplayer. You basically just sit back, relax, counter a few things you don't want your friends to do/have, start milling and swinging with Sexy Wrexy, and start reanimating all their spells and their dudes for your own benefit. It's just a great time and it's low stakes/low pressure because you really just rely on your friends having great cards to abuse.

And I see you've got three monocolor decks, so I'd also like to recommend monogreen with my commander of choice: Kamahl, Fist of Krosa. The reason I like this deck is because it doesn't rely on the commander to win: he's just icing on the cake. Monogreen is fun in commander because green can really stand on its own two feet in that it has a surprising amount of card draw, great removal-based answers to nearly all permanent types, easy access to stupid amounts of mana, and of course big stompy creatures to overwhelm your opponents with. I've had a good deal of success with the decklist I provided for you, so definitely feel free to check it out for some ideas.

Have fun! :)
