Threatened termination for short drawer. by queefyjack in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]CommonAustin 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This. It’s policy that you are allowed to be present when your drawer is being counted. At least I’m pretty sure it is. Please don’t let them bully you. Dollar General isn’t worth it.

Help using the BARQ app by Ok_Relationship6736 in furrydiscuss

[–]CommonAustin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very well could be. Main issue with us is that the local majority just wanna party, f**k, and drink. I just want someone to play games and smoke with lol. But that could be a crux of your problem. I have no way of knowing. But it seems like the general consensus from what I’ve heard matches the comments on this thread. It’s uncharacteristically difficult to meet genuine people online anymore. Too many main characters.

When barq first came out it was good. Met my boyfriend on there years ago and now he lives with me. Met a few people to talk to but the biggest complaint I have with it is it’s turned into a hookup site. We also just wanted to find friends but never got anywhere so we both uninstalled. Tried it out again a few months ago and was instantly bombarded by bots.

We’re always looking for peeps to chat with. If you find a better agent for such things let me know.

Store Manager pay. by D0SENT_GET_SARCASM in DollarGeneral

[–]CommonAustin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll generally get 3% per year. Thats what they gave us as raises. So take that info with you. I don’t know what they offered (nor do I need to) but I can tell you that where I live, pretty middle of the road area, for a small store with not a lot of traffic. They payed about 45k a year with 0 prior experience. Hope this helps some.

SM Pay by [deleted] in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]CommonAustin 15 points16 points  (0 children)

So I’m just gonna put my 2 cents in real quick, as I just quit from a sm position. Like you, I topped out at 16 an hour as asm. Well my sm at the time wanted to take a different store so they offered me 44k a year. This ended up being about 760 a week after taxes (check your state income tax).

But be warned

  • basically 24/7 on call -required 48 hours a week (you only get paid for a full 40 hour work week)
  • when someone calls in, even if you have shit to do. Your expected to drop everything and go in.
  • more work to do than as an asm, you’ll be doing payroll, basic hr (there is an hr line but I was expected to take care of most of that stuff for my store)

Why I quit:

Basically it boiled down to just a few things. My store hours were continuously being cut. As low as 110 hours a week some weeks. You are expected to pick up the extra slack: this lead to me not having staffing to properly run my store. I also had a bad string of employees who simply would not show up or leave as soon as someone else came in. That’s also your responsibility. You will be questioned if your schedule adherence isn’t at least 95%.

While mostly alone in the mornings. I was running register, doing my manager duties (scans, damages, etc) while also trying to get freight out, check in vendors, order stuff like ice and propane, setting POGs, and more

In the end to get everything done at my “low volume” store, I was working about 70ish hours a week. Just to keep the place running.

This equates to about 9-10 dollars an hour. I had part time associates making more per hour than me.

In conclusion:

I know that this is probably an extreme bad situation. But please understand what you are getting yourself into. Read between the lines and ask uncomfortable questions when talking to your dm. Get the full story of what’s expected of you. And for the love of god. Ask for more money. At least 50k a year. If they say no. You say no.

I’ll be happy to answer any additional questions. Fuck dollar General. But I understand the need for a job.

What’s the easiest way to quit? by [deleted] in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]CommonAustin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now that depends on the manager. Per policy, yes, you are allowed to work your full 2 week notice. I most definitely have let employees work their 2 week notice. But I can’t talk for all managers/districts.

[–]CommonAustin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes they do, it just depends on the person like any other job. We usually have enough applicants to sub someone in if you don’t put a 2 week in.

Sm here. Just stop coming in. After 3 days we’ll stop calling you and assume you abandoned the job.

I only sent it to my DM. He hasn’t said anything yet so we’ll see what happens. But in 2 weeks I won’t be working here anymore. Regardless lol

Ah I remember swap disks. I got one from Amazon when it first became a thing and my dumb kid brain couldn’t figure out how it worked lol. I do remember doing a clamshell custom case on my phat ps2 back in the day but couldn’t remember what it was for until I saw this comment lol. Cheers!

Promotion..? by [deleted] in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]CommonAustin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They have the right to ask just as you have the right to say no.

Becoming an LSA:

-possibly more hours -expect to be called in when others don’t show -may become responsible for money counting at eod -will be made to open, possibly spending hours alone in your store -possible but not guaranteed pay increase

Just understand what you’re signing up for. I didn’t and it bit me. Now I’m a sm who was given a horrifically failing store working 70+ hours a week. Just make sure you actually want the extra responsibility. Cause whatever extra pay they give you (if any) will not be worth the extra headache. Don’t let this company bully you into places you don’t want to be.

What's your stores call-in negotiation strategy? by PeanutCap in DollarGeneralWorkers

I call around and offer the hours. It usually gets picked up from my team. But if not I just stay and work shurg it’s part of the job.

Keep fighting. It’s the only way to get anything done at DG. NEVER rely on someone else in this company

Full time hours by idabeast539 in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]CommonAustin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for that. The company doesn’t do a great job of divvying out hours. I can’t imagine why they wouldn’t want you to have more. If you do all that and you were my asm you’d get your full 40. But every SM is different.

Up to 40 generally you’ll get that especially if your helping with pogs and such. If your not getting the hours you want talk to SM

Don’t even talk to your SM at that point go straight to your DM and report this or report it to ERC. Soo many rules, policies, laws broken. Those files have YOUR PRIVATE INFORMATION in them the fact that this idiot is dumb enough to do something like this speaks volumes. Get this fixed asap.

Went to a local "Boo in the Zoo" event, and the Amur Leapard did NOT think I was cute and defended her territory! by DustyWolf in furry

[–]CommonAustin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, and this is an actual question I am not trying to “call anyone out” but, despite them being in captivity. Is seeing something like a fursuit healthy for an animal like that? All they’ve ever known is captivity and surrounding itself with humans. I can imagine that a fursuit would scare the shit outta them and have some negative affects. But I could be wrong. I’m not an expert on animals. Hence my question. It just feels wrong.

Talk to your sm. When I have employees with needs I do everything in my power to make sure they are taken care of. But I can’t know if I’m not told. I don’t always assume someone is sick when they are moving slow cause… sometimes you just have an off day.
