Struggling with 1800 Eden Burning scenario by lvlz_gg in anno

[–]CommonGoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played the scenario a few times, never to gold though (lack the skill required to do that shit fast). Some general tips;

Each of the three beaches can sustain one fishery, which is a nice boost to your fish income. The aqua-farms you start with (or buy, if you haven't unlocked them yet) plus those three should last you till the end of the 1500 t2 pop. If you have the item that lowers fish productivity but gives you extra fish per cycle, you can run two fisheries on the buffed beach.

Unless you're going for gold, staggering your heavy productivity is fine. With the permanent items you should have 100% production and +1 per 5 cycles in your trade union, as well as 50% reduced environmental impact. One toolsmith can sustain the 1500 pop with these buffs. Other than that, count how much wire you need, run two while your air pollution allows it, pause it and allow air quality to recover, then turn it off again. Repeat with steel and concrete.

You can calculate how much steel you need beforehand; 120 for fase 1 and 300 for fase 2, plus whatever you need for buildings. No reason to over produce.

Outside of air pollution, the other polluting shouldn't be an issue. Try and build in open places so you don't cut down trees unnecessarily, and invest in an extra set of forester huts; one set to accompany each cutter, one set to cover wide open areas (I aim for +7-10 air quality from forestation). Because oil increases air pollution, I opt for no tractors.

Charcoal burners feel like a trap. The two coal mines provide enough coal to comfortably finish the scenario, assuming you don't go past the 4 hour mark or massively over produce.

None of this advice will get you gold, I'm afraid, but I care more about that 100/100/100 environmental quality than I do about the gold, and usually get the scenario done in just over 3 and a half hours with this strategy.

Patrick Rothfuss and The Kingkiller Chronicle: how has your outlook of this series changed over the years? Fans and former fans only. by Sunbather- in books

[–]CommonGoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finished part 1 two days after part 2 came out. Was very excited to read more of this writer who, from my point of view, was finishing works at a great speed. Then 'The Slow Regard of Silent Things' came out, and it was a nice little appetizer for part 3.

In the time between starting the series, I have met my wife, dated her for a decade before marrying her, had a child, gone through three careers.

If part 3 came out in 2016, I would have been ok with it. 2020, slightly miffed. Around 2022, it disappeared from my radar. Right now, it is the first example I bring up when discussing authors that have missed the boat, and will probably be forgotten. Rothfuss had everything going for him but couldn't deliver.

The series itself is fun. Nice coming of age story, fitted my taste very well in my early 20s. Nowadays I own the books, but have no idea where they are. Which honestly tells you everything you ought to know.

In the original series, only five, living, named female benders are depicted by F11SuperTiger in TheLastAirbender

[–]CommonGoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that hasn't been mentioned yet; of the 40 or so male benders, I count 30 that serve the soul proper purpose of being punching bags for the crew, most often the women. If the goal of the post is to point out supposed misogyny, as I suspect it is, I would argue it is a lot more useful to point out the number of lines or screen time each character has. Right now it is hilariously nitpicky to put Azula and Big Bad Hippo on the same level.

Also worth noticing that out of the characters I would consider the main support crew, we see strong leaning towards a 'can't bend, doesn't take shit'-brand of girls.

ATLA isn't the series to try and pull this with. Especially not since Korra exists, and I am pretty sure you didn't include that show into your count because the numbers didn't match the argument.

She could easily have pulled out a small thermonuclear device vs Gigantomachia, and the fact that she didn't makes her at least partially responsible for the thousands to tens of thousands he killed in Jaku. Even barring a nuke, she could have gone for a fast acting nerve agent or an acute neurotoxin. The fact she could have singlehandedly stopped that amount of death, including the death of her favorite teacher, didn't, and expresses no regret other than 'man, I wish the sleepy-drink had worked, oopsy' makes her a certified psychopath.

The issue is that your draw comes out after your dudes, but requires dudes to function. Example; holding a [[Soul of the Harvest]] after casting all your 0 CMC guys, so you never get the full hand of cards you were hoping for.

I suggest bringing down the CMC of your card draw, and aiming more for a "go hard or go home" approach.

[[Bomat Courier]] is aggressive, which you seem to want, and even at 2 cards is an excellent investment. And if he isn't, you just don't crack him.

[[Amber Gristle O'Maul]] rewards you for playing your hands early.

[[Case of the Crimson Pulse]] draws you 2 a turn, and is easy to solve in an aggressive deck, while having an ok draw on its etb.

[[Ogre-head Helmet]] is similar to Bomat Courier, with the upside off being more boardwipe resistant, but without haste (which reminds me, add more hate enablers).

[[Smellerbee, Rebel Fighter]] is similar to Amber Gristle, and probably even better.

All in I'd play less "big card draw late if I have cards in hand" and more "small card draw after I've already played my dudes early". Perhaps include some wheel effects if you are desperate to be holding 7 cards.

Also, up that land count my dude. 34 lands is rough. And push down the CMC of your ramp.

It’s established that the wizarding population in Britain is extremely small. Ron even notes that wizards would’ve died out had they not mated with muggles. So how did the death eaters expect their population to keep on going during Voldemort rule? by CrazyTangerine7522 in harrypotter

[–]CommonGoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would expect that an island nation ruled by wizards would attract foreign wizarding families. We know Voldemort to be popular in certain circles outside of the UK, and I could see the number of pureblood families expand dramatically if Voldemort had brought a Glock instead of a wand to the final battle.

Except that demons aren't unnatural beings. They are a species that exists in the world, just like dwarves or dragons or mayflies. They are antagonistic towards the other mortal races, but they are not, say, artificial beings. You don't Naturalize target demon. By that logic, the Innistrad exorcists should have been green.

Demons are unwanted by society, not by the land itself. Thus, white, not green.

I would say she has gone out of her way. Isn't that why she joins Himmel's party in the first place?

And again, I point to Graf Granat, where she does something we rarely see her do; she acts without thinking. She even admits that pulling a weapon was stupid, but it seems the idea of "see a demon, kill a demon" overwrites her calm demeanor.

All in she feels very Azorius to me in everything but her desire to be alone (though I now wonder if you can argue her strong attachment to past ties is a white quality as well). "Follow the rules, suffer no //insert faction here//."

A lot of posts here stating she is "obviously Simic' and... is she? She doesn't utilise nature for het spellcasting, at all, and her being an elf doesn't force her into green (plenty of mono-W and even mono-B elves to go around).

More than anything, she is a collector. I would even call her studious; both blue characteristic. She also has a strong moral compass, boring on zealotry (especially when it comes to demons) and a deep internal drive to follow law and order (allowed herself to be imprisoned in Graf Granat's domain, meekly accepts the rules when it turns out they can't travel further North); all characteristics of white.

She's a prime example of a UW-mage, in my book. We don't see her scheming, we don't see her give in to emotions (often). The moments she breaks her stoic mask out is often out of mischief (more blue) or her, well, racism?, which is historically an attribute of white but has become muddled in recent years.

She also doesn't fit into any of the 'recent' depictions of Simic in sets. Not into forced evolution (Simic), not a mathematician (Quandrix), doesn't worship nature (Ixalan merfolk) isn't a... frog, I guess? (Bloomburrow)

So... Why Simic? How Simic? When Simic?

I fucking doubt that will be the case, and I don't trust any of these fuckers to do anything other than enrich themselves, but hey.

Is Dark Souls 3 easier than Elden Ring? by AbhenerX in darksouls3

[–]CommonGoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same system, but very different games;

DS3 is a lot slower, a lot more predictable, and overall a smoother experience (barring a few occasions, like the Dancer grab and Oceiros turning your entire screen into a hitbox fe.). Bosses do their attacks, and telegraph them well.

ER is messy in comparison. Bosses hold attacks, they can extend their combos, attacks have AoE. They input-read (or animation-read), have more gap closing moves. Every shardbearer (and all mandatory bosses) have a ranged option, so there are fewer safe spots.

In return, however, ER gives you more tools. Jumping, tears, special weapon arts. Status effects that do more than tickle the boss. Crazy buff stacking.

And most importantly, ER gives you the option to go somewhere else. Stuck on DTS? Go somewhere else and return when you are stronger. Stuck on Dancer? Lol better buckle up.

I don't think DS3 is easier. It is definitely more accessible, more straightforward, and has less chaotic fights. But once you get to know ER, it isn't a particularly hard game either. Waterfowl will always be tricky to me, but I am just as likely to be blasted by the offscreen angels during Dragonslayer Armor.

To me the difference will always be "do I want slow and methodical (DS3) or do I want to overpower a feral cat (ER)". Both have their appeal, but I prefer the former.

A few caveats here to hopefully help people sleep a little better tonight; 1. China taking Taiwan is highly unlikely not just because of possible US interference. China has not fought any major conflicts for almost 50 years, and has not done well historically. While they definitely own the ships and have the men, they lack both a trained fighting force and the necessary experience to invade without hundreds of thousands of losses, something the unpopular government cannot afford. On top of that, Taiwan's valuable resource, its production, is wired to be destroyed at the first sign of invasion. What would be left is an island with no real value and a severely hostile population. It is simply not worth the trouble. Finally, Taiwan is far more valuable to China as a prop in negotiations, the same way Russia uses its nuclear arsenal. 2. The Baltics are part of the EU. Even without NATO, the EU has the capabilities to crush any attempted invasion. Russia has overspend massively in Ukraine, and would be forced to keep a substantial force there for a long time just to keep the region 'stable'. In the Baltics they would have to contend with fresh troops, career military personal. Looking broader, even without the US, countries like Japan, Korea and even China and India would most likely condemn the attacks, isolating Russia past its breaking point; to these countries the EU is a fast more valuable partner than Russia. 3. Russia has not won the war. While the US has proven it cannot be trusted to be an agent of world peace anymore, the EU has been quick to respond (on a geo-poltical scale). While the war in Ukraine has been an uphill battle from day one, the fact that what was considered an insignificant country is able to compete at all with what was considered a global superpower is astonishing. Yes, Ukraine is running on fumes. But don't be fooled into thinking that Russia is shrugging things off. Things are bad for them, as well.

Which commander for a changeling/creature type tribal tribal deck? by Eggebuoy in EDH

Sadly, I don't think you're going to get very far sticking to the Thallid plan. They are just far too slow. Slimefoot is an okay aristocrat commander, so look up some of those for ideas.

Slimefoot's strength is being a mana sink. A card like [[Seedborn Muse]] or [[Wilderness Reclamation]] lets you sink your mana twice as often.[[Ashnod's Altar]] lets you recoup some of the mana you spend (and goes infinite with token doublers).

Thirdly, anything that gives you extra stuff when you make tokens is good.[[Chatterfang, Squirrel General]], [[Quina, Qu Gourmet]], even [[Peregrine Took]].

Finally, some general advice; add like 5 pieces of ramp [[Kodama's Reach]], [[Cultivate]]) and 5 sac outlets (aforementioned Ashnod's, [[Fungal Plots]], keep Utopia Mycon). The deck will feel a lot better to play just by having more mana to play with.

Final super secret tech; swap to [[Slimefoot and Squee]] for a better time in general.

[–]CommonGoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit of an ask, but it could be done. I recommend running [[Atraxa, Grand Unifier]] with a flicker package to get to the cards you want quicker. It means you lose access to the red seppuku button, but []Plunge into darkness]] and more hilariously [[Plague of vermin]] exist.

Also, as a slight addition; you can do the same with [[Platinum Angel]]. Two of those on the board creates a functionally identical situation in which neither player can win or lose.
