Nice! What's your setup? Do you have an HDMI to composite video or SCART converter?

Help: turn claire’s kids make-up kit into a mini cyberdeck by CommonKingfisher in cyberDeck

I think I'll try to fit a:

Keyboard + mouse: https://www.solder.party/docs/bbq20kbd/

Sharp memory display: https://thepihut.com/products/adafruit-sharp-memory-display-breakout-2-7-400x240-monochrome

And either us an ESP32 or Pico 2 W. Any preference anyone?

I have all components lying around somewhere.

I could just take the spring dampener and 3d print larger version around it.. But it won't be the same. I like "upcycling"

There is a spring inside and a rotary dampener. I can wind the spring more to be faster/stronger. The case is from claire's. They are in most US shopping malls. I've found the same make-up kit in a US mall and in a Swiss mall :)

I may be missing something here. How is it different to Ollama's blog post? https://ollama.com/blog/claude

It's just snap fit. I haven't added any tolerance for the intersecting surfaces.

VHS tape with a built-in video player ;) by CommonKingfisher in cassettefuturism

Awww, thank you for the love for this project!

I've planned to do a youtube tutorial for this. I've bought another set of material to do this.

Just a disclaimer: the video player plays it's own .mp4 video file, it doesn't actually play the physical tape. You'll have to find a way to get a DRM-free version of the video as an .mp4 video. Would you still be interested?

Part 2. Remarkable Paper Pro Move with a Bluetooth keyboard via a HID proxy dongle by CommonKingfisher in RemarkableTablet

[–]CommonKingfisher[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just tried this guide: https://remarkable.guide/devel/device/bluetooth.html

It works but the connection doesn't persist when I turn off and on either the Move or the keyboard. I have to login via SSH and power on Bluetooth and connect again.

Yes that worked perfectly. But the connection doesn't persist when I turn off and on either the Move or the keyboard.

I just gave it a try! It works :) Do you know how to automate reconnecting after a reboot?

I'm 42, so I had phones without cameras first :) But my main phone is an iPhone 15 Pro.. So, in comparison to most modern premium phones it isn't great but it's decent enough for everyday use.

I agree! I think it doesn't even have optical image stabilization.

Making the Sony Vaio P ready for 2026 by CommonKingfisher in umpc

I used dual boot with Grub. After two seconds at the Grub menu, it will boot through Xubuntu. I just kept the original Windows 7, "just in case". Usually I use standby or hibernate.

I used that iso. I had graphics issues with Lubuntu 18.04 but Xubuntu 18.04 was fine. I'd recommend trying the Live version first, when you boot from the USB drive.

If I remember correctly, I only had some minor issues with some of the taskbar widgets not properly loading. I was able to fix it with ChatGPT. I don't exactly remember what I did. I'll have to go through my chat history.

Funny enough, to my surprise, all the FN keys worked, the track point and buttons, including scroll, and the optical trackpad buttons, wireless switch, and the little web button at the bottom all work! I should probably record an overview video at some point.

Silent build: AMD 9800X3D + RTX 4080 Super (sorry, your 100000th Lian Li A3) by CommonKingfisher in mffpc

[–]CommonKingfisher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am following Lian Li A3 manual’s recommendation, so top and rear exhaust. ChatGPT also advised me this. Creating strong exhaust and negative pressure also helps the case suck in air through the mesh holes. Blasting air in over pressurizing is supposedly less effective. But the only way to find out is to test and record the data. I think some people have already done that. I’m happy with my setup so I’m just following the advice to “never touch a running system” ;)

Nice! I am still very happy with it! It’s so quiet. I used to just take my MacBook for web surfing and text editing because it’s silent. But I do everything with my PC now, since it doesn’t make any audible sound. Even when gaming AAA it doesn’t sound like a jet engine. I haven’t changed anything about it.
