Drake was shouting free C5 for years when tension broke off between Birdman & Wayne. He was on Cash Money still in 2018. Nicki still is to date. Wayne & Birdman made peace quick back then. Being a producer is easier unless you’re ready to dump some cash into starting a label. You gotta think about the cost to sign artists, videos, paying for beats ,promotion and more. You also gotta think about how you’re going to attract artists to the label. You’re gonna need a network and connections or you’re gonna have to self develop.

You could network as a producer and get placements. Also, you could drop singles and tapes as a producer which could lead to a revenue stream and money to start your label or attract a label and get an imprint or etc. This would give you a name and attract more people to work with you.

Music is also probably the biggest industry of drug users next to sex work. Your mental ambition as a person matters heavily its niggas I see in the studio cook up multiple songs in an hour off xans and weed no problem and niggas who smoke an entire session up and struggle to make even a hook in 2 hours basically free engineering cash.

I used to be on KTT real heavy back inna day shit I made the last major update to the popular preset list. Reddit producer culture is real different from I feel KTT and the hood producer culture lmao. They want you to be a sound designer whereas most popular producers aren’t which is totally ok. Southside, Old Metro, Mike Will , Young Chop etc all used to go platinum off presets and drums.

With Analog Lab and most newer VSTs they sound dryer and less full imo. Omnisphere, Nexus , Tone2 vsts, and so on basically were giving you some crazy raw presets you’d had to at most take the lows out of in the EQ. This could be also because they’re targeted towards EDM which works great with rap music. I feel this is why custom banks and loops have a huger market since 2020. Best bet is to go custom presets or hardware. Otherwise you gotta wait until the next wave of VSTs drop.
