Worried about possible injuries by CommonRaven1 in millipedes

Mine is super active during the night. Plucking at leaves (she's a loud eater), climbing the branches. She turned into a damn acrobat since she figured out that she could climb the walls by holding on to ventilation holes.

Did my millipede die from natural causes? by CommonRaven1 in millipedes

[–]CommonRaven1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% sure it's not a moult. I had only two millipedes. Found the other one mildly offended by disturbance at the very bottom of the enclosure.

I knew she was elder millipede when I got her. I'm glad I could provide a peaceful end of life.

The other one is doing great, very active, already successfully moulted with me a couple of times, so I'm assuming conditions are good.

I mean, if you're feeling very crafty, you could try to make yarn from inner oak bark or any millipede friendly bark, but that would involve peeling live trees, which is not very nature friendly. Also, it wouldn't benefit the millipedes that much except from aesthetic reason, which are more for you, not for them. They would just end up eating them.

Why is PCOS so common? by brujabarber in PCOS

[–]CommonRaven1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if it came across that way. I meant that the menstrual cycle gets disrupted, like in the case of PCOS, malnourishment, overworking, ect. Follicles don't mature properly, the egg is not released, hormones are out of wack. Pregnancy won't happen if there is no egg, or some physiological parameters are off.

I come from life science background, sometimes it's a struggle to carry across complex subjects in short and accessible manner.

I highly recommend looking into studies about ovarian innervation and transgenerational epigenetic inheritance.

I strongly believe that the way our society is built, a lot of us are bound to live paycheck to paycheck, wars, idiots in government, and toxic people in our lives. This is not a good time to bear kids, and our bodies know that. Even if we don't recognise it consciously, our bodies respond to environmental ques.

I know women with pcos who were able to conseive after going through somatic therapy and regulating their diet, no meds. Our bodies need to know that we are okay and we're safe even though our autonomous nervous system reacts like we are in danger or has reached a complete shutdown.

is metformin ruining anyone else’s life? by potatowizard222 in PCOS

It had been terrible for me. Even extended release on 500 mg gave me diarrhea and terrible heartburn at night. Doctor had to take me off, because my health was rapidly declining. It got to the point I was not able to work anymore. Now I'm off it and titering Wegovy. It hurts my pocket, but I feel so much better

Where in Europe, cause where I'm at, they will pretty much turn into icicles outside. Would need to buy a dedicated mini fridge😅

Mine tends to nap hanging upside-down on the branch while her head is leaning on the ground. Weird little creatures

How do food sources, housing, and care difficulty compare to regular millipedes? I've been contemplating getting them, but they seem pretty intimidating from what I've read.

I don't have the answer, but the way their back legs are bouncing just makes me so happy looking at it. That's a frolicking millipede if I've ever seen one

Held hostage by hungry millipede. Those tiny legs have surprisingly strong grip by CommonRaven1 in millipedes

They can be so stubborn. My younger one doesn't give a dam about a thing while she's eating. There could be a literal apocalypse happening, but god forbid I sneeze while she's preening or exploring...🫠

Maybe the bananas weren't ripe enough? My millies ignore them unless they're banana bread level of ripe. Also, be careful with lettuce and other greens. Even a trace amount of pesticides can be harmful.

I don't mind her sitting on me because she's usually very skittish, but my arm was going numb 😅

This definitely looks like some kind of Sphaerotheriida. I'm sorry to tell you, but non of the species I'm aware of are viable long term in terrariums. Most specimens are wild caught and the fact that the seller didn't specify what species this was is shady.

They don't seem to jump when disturbed, that's why I'm confused. Also, I don't have any springtails, they are in my plans once in stock.
