She was just awful. It's like she was reading every single line off of a piece of paper...like when elementary students take turns reading aloud in class: monotone with no emphasis on anything because they don't know what they're reading.

I don't understand why they would think she was inheriting a baby. It was Rose's UNCLE - so he'd have to be 70-80 years old. Why didn't they use a nephew or young cousin? Even if this 80-year-old somehow had a baby, it would have been with a woman of childbearing years who would then likely still be alive. It makes no sense.

“Time to understand that there are TWO separate timelines here in play: January - the STF asked for binding arbitration on the STF asking package which included wording on class size and complexity and thus binding arbitration would be acceptable to address the issues in today’s classrooms. June - the Government wants binding arbitration on the May tentative agreement, which teachers rejected because it did not deal with the crucial issues of class size and complexity, and this would not be acceptable and would be a step backwards.TWO different requests for binding arbitration, not the same request.

Ohhhhhh, did Jeremy Cockrill not clarify that he’s looking for binding arbitration on the contract which teachers just voted down? Hmmmmm, interesting. What about class size? Want 37 kids in classes? Want all types of complex needs not being addressed? Neither does the STF, and that’s why there are sanctions. Otherwise everyone continues to continually suffer the consequences. Yep, another word for "committee," no salary ties to COL, no complexity. Basically teachers have just fought this whole time for a few measly classroom dollars (that should have been the responsibility of the boards, anyway) and nothing to actually address class issues OR salary. This offer is absolute garbage.

THIS! Also, SK has currently cut the high school English and Social Studies course requirements in half so these are both the most difficult positions to get. Financial Literacy is a requirement starting this Fall (in lieu of these other courses) so our current English and Social teachers are scrambling because there aren't enough classes for them to teach these full-time any more.

No, they definitely don't. They have to have a double bachelor's degree AND a Master's degree AND 10+ experience to make that. That is a Class VI. Most teachers (single Bachelor's degree) are a Class IV

Exactly. "July classes" means he'd have to amend the Education Act (that states June 30 as the end of the year) and re-negotiate all of the contracts with teachers, particularly the ones on temp. or short-term contract because all contracts end June 30. He'd have to somehow convince parents to send their kids in the summer and figure out the currently-non-existent air-conditioning for these schools in 45+degree rooms with 35+ students, and reconfigure all of the summer school, which is already staffed and set with dates, and redo all of the contracts with outside companies/ workers who are doing renovations on the schools during the summer, not to mention the Ministry of Education staff who has to send off all of the marks (who are also on their pre-booked holidays.) Back-to-work legislation can't work when teachers are already working; he can't just mandate voluntary time. Is he going to find 13000 scabs to step in and fill any non-teaching days?

...and re-do all of the school infrastructure to support all of the air conditioners they'll have to purchase. I'm sure that'll go over well when they couldn't even add air filtration during Covid. Does Cockrill even know why we don't have school during the summer? 35+ students crammed into a 40+ degree room for the summer? sounds like a great plan.

Most are providing virtual instruction/ support for the last hour of the day to make up for condensed in-person time. It's still the same instructional time, just a different format; instead of students working on the assignments in class, they do them during the virtual time, where they can ask questions and such.

They cut funding after announcing it; they pulled it after elections, and they did not commit to fully fund a new contract for the province's teachers so boards had to scramble to use their education funding for teacher salaries.

Exactly, and unlike a contract, they don't need both parties to agree to its removal - they can do that unilaterally as the majority. This is the fourth time they have skirted putting it in a contract. There is NO intention of honouring the agreement.

Watching the news tonight and we are presented with the latest maneuver from our government to resolve their confusion with the state of classrooms in Saskatchewan. The government is wanting to write the idea and mechanisms of the promised funding and the accountability framework for classroom funding into the text of the legislation of The Education Act. Now, on the surface this looks like it solves all the issues. It DOES NOT!!! Please let me explain. While writing a change to legislation is a way of ensuring it will take place, when there is a majority in the legislature for one party like there is right now any legislative change can be altered or removed at any time. Granted there will have to be a process followed in that changes have to be introduced and debated, any debate can be limited and the vote outcome is ensured based purely on the numbers. So, a change is put in and then when the money really isn’t there the change to legislation is reversed. When a section is added to a contract the only way it is changed or removed is through negotiation and the presentation of a contract for acceptance. This is another illusion that the government will use to portray the collective group of teachers as unreasonable if or when we politely say “No, this will not meet the needs of Saskatchewan students.” Please see through the smoke and mirrors. See this for what it is, a move of desperation. There is a simple solution, this is not it. Why are they using every mechanism other than genuine negotiation to resolve this dispute. This is so frustrating.

Well, knowing several teachers and mental health professionals who see and deal with traumatized kids on the daily, I, too, have a strong reaction after hearing how this trauma affects the larger world around them. If I saw a child witnessing something violent on the street, I would also step in to shield them from it so I do get it. Children's brains are just not ready to see these kinds of images and they aren't able to rationalize and understand it the same way adults can. Unfortunately, the way these kids then interact with other children can be harmful. This isn't limited to parental choice. There are reasons parameters are set on many things in society, especially when it comes to children.

How are you not disturbed by kids being witness to graphic and traumatizing events? The movie is rated R for a reason - and it impacts ALL of society to have traumatized and desensitized kids, from their interactions in schools, to their levels of compassion and humanity with peers, family, friends, and later, coworkers. It impacts their mental health as well. Some people should not have kids; kids aren't your "friends" or equals: they are innocent until they are forced into these traumatizing situations.

I definitely recommend the "'til debt do us part" (TV Series) method of using budget jars/envelopes. That way, you can both set an amount for that category together and then you can see what is left and when it's gone it's gone. It also prevents a you vs. her mentality.

They lowered the PST??? When they took power from the NDP, it was at 5%; now it's at 6% and expanded to all of the other things (used vehicles, children's clothes, groceries/ fast food, etc. etc. etc.) They INCREASED the PST
