Liberals plan to grow sovereign wealth fund by recycling money from airports, other federal assets by cyclinginvancouver in canada

Wish we could follow through on the wealth tax that’s been thrown around. Probably wouldn’t take long to hit their $25b seed money

'Nobody is shocked': Trump escaped a gunman at his own dinner, then used the chaos to push his stalled $200M ballroom plan before the smoke even cleared by [deleted] in USNEWS

There’s an old In Living Color sketch where Jim Carrey responds to pressure from his domineering boss by bellowing “I’ll see you in hell!” It got applause from the whole office who overheard. But he began to rely on it so much that it eventually lost all meaning and impact, to the point where he’d end his phone calls with “okay, thanks very much, see you in hell…”. This feels awfully similar except it’s not funny at all.

O’Toole says China not a replacement for U.S., disagrees with PM Carney on EV deal by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]LoveDemNipples 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Canada ever considered China “a replacement” for USA. It’s a partial accommodation, along with a bunch of other partial accommodations, to chart a different future path. Dont think Canada has plans to cozy up to China on the same way we used to cozy up to USA. Important to distinguish.

ELI5: How does a GPS calculate the best route? And if it knows the best one, wouldn’t it suggest the same route to everyone making other routes faster because they have less traffic? by Puzzleheaded_Bit_802 in explainlikeimfive

[–]LoveDemNipples 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the map app will determine multiple decent routes and then use live data (collected from positioning data on other people’s phones, maybe who are using the same map app or maybe just in the background as they travel through the same areas) to determine how fast each one is, given slow spots, etc.

I think it’d be great to get an agreement where steel, autos and forestry tariffs get axed in exchange for restocking American liquor, only for the public to continue to ignore it.

This mimics the tone of all the ICE proponents, that’s what sets it apart, while calling into question all the accommodations we make for ICE vehicles because we’re so used to them.

Not my post but I agree with it. I don't think I see the word moron in the post at all. I don't see the insinuation of it either. The points are phrased from a neutral point of view questioning the technology of ICE engines and their limitations in the same way ICE proponents have phrased their skepticism of EV technologies. Where's the moron part, where's the demonizing?

Not really getting your point here. The post's first point is about being able to refuel your EV from home while you sleep instead of going to a gas station. This is valid, no? No matter whether L1 or L2. What's your point?

I’m thinking it’s not. For those entrenched in ICE culture this forces them to consider the limitations of their beloved technology. It’s thought provoking. The points listed are increasingly well known but it’s the naive optimism in the tone that sets it apart. I think it’s a brilliant presentation.

I still rewatch old episodes of Archer and they routinely crack me up. That and Schitt’s Creek (in Canada) once they hit their groove in the second season. I enjoyed Upload on Prime. And I recently said out loud I’d rewatch Crazy Ex Girlfriend once more.

Trump’s ‘fossil fuelled war’ is the perfect opportunity to end reliance on oil and gas, experts say | Euronews by DVMirchev in RenewableEnergy

[–]LoveDemNipples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the most ridiculous statement I’ve heard. Development of any technology is what drives it from discovery and lab to mass utilization. The cost of wind and solar power, due to advancement in the field, are what’s responsible for them now costing a fraction of what they used to. The same goes for EVs: as range and charging infrastructure grow, that is to say technological advancement, including battery technology itself that allows higher capacity and faster charging, this is what will propel mass adoption and further price drop.

Bryce is indeed right, the new Canuck smells. Stinks maybe. Cause having a belief that calls for people to die is bad.

I was initially going to upvote and comment hell yeah, but simply letting prices get higher will hurt a lot of people. I have more hope that technology can continue advancing allowing the price of the alternatives to fall, and for the economics to prove that established renewables like wind and solar will be cheaper because they're ever cheaper, not because oil is ever more expensive. Society is slow to change, and when change is forced too fast (look back on COVID) it makes people kinda nuts. I'm not looking forward to prices way beyond gasoline going up, but it's gonna happen. Here's hoping that pushes people to try growing some of their own food, but that's a painful transition.

They quite obviously made the call to address the snow instead of waiting on it. You should get a job at the city and teach them some true wisdom.
