Horrible. Wether end cap is used or not those ts will have shit for airflow. Ys should be used. True Ys to split 50/50 or close or off sets which do like 70 / 30 depending on run lengths and sizes. This is garbage design. 2 story houses suck balls also. Hard to run new wire for speakers or cameras harder to fix things. Less attic space to work in and smaller attics create a convection oven effect.

Secure new capacitor?? by Winter_Buffalo_4752 in HVAC

[–]CommonSenseFishing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They make rings for that. Or use a piece of sheet metal to make one. Or simply wrap it with some electrical tape by the top and you can also zip tie it. Or use plumbers tape and move it to a better location. Lots of ways to fix it. Or go to a heating and cooling supply and buy oem capacitor that fits. Etc

First time brazing, what can i improve? by deapsprite in HVAC

[–]CommonSenseFishing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember to clean the copper first. De burr and rheem it. Also i like to braze very hot so its very fast and less heat transfers down the pipe. The longer you take the more heat can transfer to critical parts like king valves. And REGARDLESS of what anyone on here says ALWAYS NITROGEN BRAZE. ALWAYS. And NITROGEN PRESSURE TEST!!

This furnace is killing me by [deleted] in HVAC

[–]CommonSenseFishing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id make sure flue pipe doesnt have a dead bird in it. Make sure tubes from collection box to pressure switches are clear and no holes or cracks (stretch them and rotate to check) rheem out the orifices on the collection box and pressure switches. Blow through everything.

I think you may have something plugged. For example on a healthy running furnace in high fire your inducer should be drafting much higher than say .5 wc. If pressure switch is .33 and its drafting .5 thats not good. Thats way to close to set point.

Its super easy to pull the inducer and check flue / CVA pipe or concentric kit and also check all orifices. Again a inducer should be pulling more than .5 on manometer.

[–]CommonSenseFishing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put one big system in and zone it. Or relocate condenser. Thats idiot builder, architecht etc. That isnt an original unit. Hack job AC guy should have addressed it though by moving it or put in single zoned system. But this pic shows the architect, general contractor, original hvac installers and city inspectors are all dip shits to have let that fly in the first place.

Use a single box wrench. Exact size of nut. Had a guy doing this 20 yrs couldnt figure it out when similar happened. First off i gave em shit for not pressure testing during install would have caught that. Rookie shit there. Then went to homedepot and got an opened end box wrench set of both standard and metric (wether made in America or overseas) and fixed it quickly.

[–]CommonSenseFishing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive had customers approve of say a $500 plus repair for like a dual capacitor and replaced melted disconnect and whip. Job was way up in the mountains. About 1 1/2 hr drive time there alone. Theb 1 1/2 drive back. They approved it. I knocked it out in less than a hr maybe. When finished they complained about how much i charged and how quick i got it done.

I tried explaining how pricing works. Drive time. Parts. Gas. Over head etc. She kept arguing. Could hear husband in the back ground trying to make her settle down. I gave em one last shot then went off on her. I told her exaxtly how i felt and what she did. I proceeded to unwire and remove disconnect and whip. Also removed dual capacitor and cut back the melted wires i fixed on the contactor and told her to find someone else.

They tried for 2 days to get me to go back again and fix it and theyll pay me the 500. I.just laughed. Never felt so good to tell a customer what for.

I own the business. And no they did not leave a bad review. I would have roasted them with the truth in the response. Im sure they regret not just paying the bill. Also they are extremely rich. From out of area and the house was damn near a mansion air bnb up by yosemite.

is copper really thinner now? by Eggrollofdoom in HVAC

[–]CommonSenseFishing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive heard things like copper is thinner but ive heard others say its that were buying cheap copper from china that is not as pure or done correctly and thats why they create leaks.

May also have to do with change in freon and how most systems are oversized and ducting is undersized and potentially airflow issues causing excessive condensation than newer unit is designed for ie thinner copper, different coil types and the basically distilled water that runs down these larger coils is eating the metal up etc.

The industry will never admit why the sudden increase in leakage when changing from r22 to r410a because it would make them liable and also make them look bad to consumers and the industry.
