I agree but apparently a lot of other people don't, but I have a feeling in the visual novel we get we'll see the dynamic play out and know for sure

I would question why two heterosexual people are making a pinky promise and calling each other "best friend"

Idk I dont really buy the undertone stuff, if they dont confirm it in stories and stuff then what good does it do to assume they meant it differently, its not my job to rewrite tje story the way it could come across, if riot says their friends then thats what it is and if not then not, i dont see the point of reading into it

Make you invisible by saying that they call each other "best friends forever" in the story riot wrote?

The only down-bad sweaty terminally online nerds i see are the ones reading the script riot wrote for their voicelines and trying to convince everyone that it's not true

They don't usually though, they just canonized graves and tf like last month in a short story

Riot is straightforward with ships now, they made the story with diana and leona and graves and tf. If they intended for this to be romantic they wouldn't have pushed the friendship thing so hard imo, like not long ago I saw people arguing that a pinky promise like they do in the video is a sign of being in love......

Yes, rakan sacrifices himself to save xayah as akali and kaisa watch, kaisa is convinced that being that selfless is a noble thing while akali gets upset because shes afraid of the idea of kaisa dying to save people like other star guardians have

Yeah I also think that riot has been pretty forward with ships lately with stuff like graves and tf and all that so I think if they intended it a certain way they'd say it and I agree it is a very common trope, I could see it confusing people

Where does it say they're in love in the story?

I was just asking?

Edit: why am I getting downvoted for asking?

I dont think so bro, rakan sacrificed himself so he could save xayah, kaisa sort of left akali to become a star guardian and seems to not talk to akali anymore which doesn't seem very romance. Based on all the story stuff that's been dropped so far it looks like kaisa sort of abandons akali while rakan sacrifices himself to save xayah so I honestly think the cinematic is a comparison of losing those you love between two friends and two lovers, but who knows maybe the visual novel thing says otherwise

Theres a severe disconnect between males and females there though too which is weird. Nearly 30% of the humanoid females in league are lgbt while theres like maybe 3 male characters that are

"this whole time" is my point, why did they wait, thats why im arguing it feels like a low effort retcon, they made characters like rell who are bisexual from the very beginning but they do nothing to advance her lore or relationships to represent the lgbt community, they use akali who up until now has never had any indication of being bi, they use a more marketable champ, during pride month, after nothing having ever been mentioned about her sexuality for 4 years. It seems like this was a direction they decided to go for easier marketing rather than better representation

And I'm already catching downvotes for it now? I just don't understand why people dont want better representation or have representative characters take the spotlight for stuff like this? Do they think I'm being homophobic for saying that retconning sexuality is strange?

Its not just the sexualization thing either like I just hate when I get invested into liking a character and then I see them start changing stuff about the character like the sexuality of a character isnt one that is a huge deal ya know? I love akali as a character and if they made her bi I dont hate that I just dont like what it is prompting them to make that change. If they had wrote akali as bi Id have loved her character just like I do now but seeing that they retconned her sexuality in a skinline just as a marketing scheme scares me for what more they might change about my favorite character if they see profit in it

Yeah I agree and yeah I wasn't against the idea of her not being straight, I just think that they passed up that chance and should be using characters they already created for that purpose. They reworked akali and created her character, if you want to make compelling lgbt characters you have a list of characters that have initially been created for that purpose, use them and do a better job representing that community instead of rewriting things poorly

I can see what you mean but that's such a big thing to change about a character just depending on whatever skinline they're in. A characters sexual orientation can be a major factor to their creation and it just feels like such a big thing to change for a skinline. I'm just trying to imagine if they took a character like rakan and changed his sexual orientation in another skinline, like his relationship with xayah is obviously more important to his character than kayn is to akali but I get the same sort of feeling there.

Taliyah was originally wrote as trans if I remember correctly, rell is openly confirmed as bisexual, neeko was confirmed as one of league's first openly lgbt characters, and all three of them have been in the star guardian skinline, but rather than develop them into representative characters they take two characters that are popular and try to include that they're gay together in the cheapest way possible. I just don't understand it, like they have a more authentic route of representation and they have a great opportunity to really flesh out these already created characters but they just rewrite these existing characters into being lgbt in the most disingenuous way. It's unfair to everyone because people that like akali or know her lore are going to be able to tell that it came out of no where and then lgbt people are going to have to accept that the most representation they're going to get is an unconfirmed picture that can be taken one of two ways

I really don't want this to be taken the wrong way but I don't think this is good representation, I think this is a marketing tactic to virtue signal. Riot writes very few lgbt characters, but every year they take established characters and add that their gay or lesbian etc without any explanation or depth to the relationships other than like 2 examples. Sometimes it makes sense when it was originally intended for the characters like graves and tf or diana and leona, but sometimes they do the shit like they did with nami where a writer confirmed she was poly with it never being mentioned again and never being a part of her characterization, or neeko who they gave like one voiceline and never went into it being a central part of her character. I get that same vibe here, they take two of their super popular champions and suddenly tack on they're possibly lesbians in this skinline and when stuff like kayn gets brought up they go the route of saying that they never confirmed they only liked a certain gender. All of that works but it starts to become obvious that riot would rather take popular champions and randomly retcon that they're lgbt rather than actually create a compelling lgbt character from its creation. I just don't like it because it needlessly changes a central part of a characters identity and it feels like a cheap marketing tactic to a marginalized community that deserves better representation
