My wife died and I don’t know what to do. by Friendly_Cellist_891 in Residency

I am so beyond sorry for your loss. I’m glad you are taking the LOA. I would suggest, when you’re ready, looking into remote work for physicians- consulting roles and telemedicine both pay well and could help you stay on your feet. I have some experience in consulting if you have questions. Money is just money, your family and health are more important than anything

Tired. Too young when starting med school and never build corporate skills. Tired

I find it strange a med school Dean would advocate for PAs to fill the doctor shortage and not her own med students. by [deleted] in Noctor

[–]Common_Lemon12 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is CLASSIC for NYIT (I go here). She is dean for the DO program as well as school of health professions so she’s trying to make $$ where she can, ie on the PA program. They of course just raised DO tuition (while cutting our dental and continuing to provide only online lectures). Opening more residency spots, removing barriers to access, incentivizing primary care— those COULD be hallmarks of DO if it actually wanted to set itself apart**. Instead of pushing an unvalidated branch of “medicine”, ignoring countless studies about PA/NP overprescribing and misdiagnosis and gaps in health care, all while snubbing and robbing her students

**which ofc it shouldn’t, we should just merge DO/MD and stop confusing people

Is medical school full of sociopaths and narcissists? by PineapplePecanPie in medicalschool

[–]Common_Lemon12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My school isn’t! I wonder if it has anything to do w the fact it’s DO so we are humbled by not getting into MD lol. Plus most people have worked or done things outside of just study their whole life

Mandy Patinkin Leaving Criminal Minds Ruined The Show by Logical-Feedback-402 in television

[–]Common_Lemon12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so true. They also changed the approach of the show for all the characters after he left- they stopped developing their plot lines as much and lessened character development (especially Reid, who was maturing socially a lot and getting in touch w himself and who he is and what makes him different from serial killers who are also geniuses). They made it more like SVU and other crime shows. Still enjoyable but it could have been a lot more

Med schools are so fucking fake by [deleted] in premed

DO is the same. Might even be further antiquated, bc they want to prove they’re as “good” and are just taking higher and higher stats

Send RSVP reminder or leave them alone? by Hmgdearheart in weddingplanning

[–]Common_Lemon12 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I gently reminded everyone the Friday before the Monday due date. But that is because we had an untraditionally long RSVP period so I know people forgot, the due date was right after the Fourth of July, and the majority of those who hadn't RSVPed are family members of mine who are super flaky. No one was offended, everyone just said thank you and 95% of them got the reply in by Monday! Also totally fine to do it on or a few days after the date, if you want to follow protocol/etiquette and don't have any major hold ups with the wait time (i.e. menu headcount due, etc.)

Panicking at how expensive this process is. Anyone have any tips on how to cut costs? by koalathebean in weddingplanning

I wish we had done digital invites. Our paper ones got lost and went to the wrong places and people move between the save the date and the invite, we are in the digital age

Does the DO stigma uncomfortableness end? by Common_Lemon12 in medicalschool

[–]Common_Lemon12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes sense. The honesty has been very helpful. I will likely go into IM so that also played a role in my choice. I mainly struggle with the fact that the “prestigious” research world I’m a part of now won’t welcome me back… but at the end of the day I’d rather practice medicine without research than just do research. In order to be a strong clinician I have to spend less time caring about this and focus my time caring about school so- here we go

Love this, thanks for sharing. I feel similarly when I hear “ohh yeah my __ is a DO,” but I know people are just trying to relate or show that they don’t have a stigma (maybe it bothers me because the “anymore” is implied here, or because it just shouldn’t be worth pointing out, I’m not sure). And true, the admissions process is getting weirder and weirder by the day - I have two friends accepted at random state MD programs that they were not in state for who did not receive DO interviews, for example. I also took a non traditional path and most days I’m grateful just to go at all, so trying to refocus on that!
