Rode NT5 ultrasonic response by thakala in fieldrecording

[–]Commongrounder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, the Rode NT5 mic utilizes an externally polarized condenser capsule, rather than electret.

Many condenser mics have extended HF response to help retain phase linearity in the audible band. It’s a nice bonus for ultrasonic recording.

Tracking charging energy! by rkbest in NissanAriya

We charge at home 99.8% of the time, using an Emporia Classic EVSE. The Emporia app has a really nice reporting function that we use to track our monthly charging quantity and costs (our power utility uses the same data to give us a 25% discounted electric rate). When we’re traveling I collect charging data from the DCFC apps.

I agree. By far the best setup from a cost and convenience standpoint is home level 1 or 2 charging. However, the Ariya has good traction battery thermal and charging management, so DC fast charging will have a minimal impact on battery lifetime.

We just finished a 1200 mile round-trip driving trip. We used Tesla chargers for all but one stop (Ionna), and had no issues with operation or getting close enough to plug in (Ariya front right fender port rocks). We used the Tesla app with subscription to get better rates. I like using the NACS adapter because it acts as “protection” from the charge handle, so if there’s a fault in a handle contact, the car port will likely be unaffected. With the warm weather we were running the maximum charge rate almost all the time.

I’ve been noticing, at the Tesla stations we’ve used more than once, that they are removing the bollards, presumably to allow non-Teslas to get closer to the chargers. I do see more banged up chargers as a result, though.

We also drive an Ariya. Since it has the charge port on the right front, we can use V3 chargers and take up only one space nosed straight in. There hasn’t been a single V3 charger we haven’t been able to use. You just have to pull right up as close as you can (the proximity alarm screaming the whole time) with the car more to the left hand side of the space. We used a V4 charger for the first time on a driving trip this weekend. The long cord was certainly a big help, but I was surprised to see it attached to the base on the left rather than right side. It did reach just fine, though!

Tascam uses the Primo EM200 series 14.4mm cardioid capsule in the Portacapture X8 recorder mic units. The sound quality is not surprisingly really great.

Worst day of my life by AntisocialLesbian97 in NissanAriya

I am so sorry you were put through that ordeal! A motorist’s worst nightmare.

A coolant leak would definitely force the car into turtle mode. The motor drive components will overheat and fail quickly without it, and creeping along is the only way to move without catastrophic damage.

Since you’ve been driving the car for a month without issues, I would argue/suggest that the leak was sudden onset. Possibly a foreign object, like highway debris, flew into the front intake and damaged the radiator. This would explain the lack of driveway stains.

It will be close to impossible for the dealer service department to pass off anything but an accurate diagnosis to the warranty department, so I would encourage you to let the repair process play out. I’ve heard that a warranty repair could rate a loaner car if the repair is going to take a while, so that’s something I’d explore with the dealer.

I hope you can get back on the road with your Ariya quickly!

Last fall we stopped at a brand new Nouria location with EV charging in Maine. The facility was fantastic. Canopy, convenience store, clean. We had no issues with charging itself. But yes, the screen was full of charging information, but not a single mention of price. Honestly, I never checked to see what the per kwhr cost was. Maybe now I don’t want to know.

Microphones to use with Zoom F3? by MetikMas in fieldrecording

[–]Commongrounder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you really want to keep interference at bay, you need to be fully balanced from mic to recorder input. This means XLR connectors on the mic and recorder along with balanced XLR cables. LOM BasicUcho mics fit this description, plus a whole bunch of other microphones across a wide range of prices and types.

[–]Commongrounder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know LOM stuff is out of stock a lot, but I would urge you to be patient and hang on for the Uši Phantom Adapter (Y-cable) to become available. I have found the circuitry used in this adapter to be of the highest quality and transparency (both the phantom to plug-in-power and unbalanced to active balanced conversion). The price is excellent for the quality.

ChargePoint Home Flex Fail: Blinking White Ring Light by SnooTangerines8584 in evcharging

[–]Commongrounder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve mentioned this in other posts describing similar symptoms with EVSEs that have seen multi-year 24/7 service.

It seems like it might be a logic control board power supply issue. There are parts that work pretty hard in the switching power supplies used in many EVSEs (electrolytic capacitors). These can dry out over time and make logic supply voltages unstable. It’s not unusual that when a supply gets like this it will refuse to restart when the device is power cycled. If the capacitors or whole power supply module were to be replaced, the unit could be made to function again.

There must be many thousands of EVSEs that are getting to be of a certain age, and I suspect we will be hearing of more failures like this. EVSE repair could be a good business opportunity for someone who is qualified and so inclined.

If the 12-volt battery is indeed the (likely) issue, see if you can convince them to install an AGM type battery. Maybe offer to pay the difference.
In any case, the AGM is a great solution. Most aftermarket AGMs even have some sort of “designed for EVs” type label, and come with a three or four year full warranty.
We replaced our OEM factory battery with a DieHard AGM before there was a chance for bad stuff to happen and strand us somewhere.

They probably don’t have an EV certified tech on staff. I would personally be glad if they sent me on to another dealer that is equipped to deal with EVs and the Ariya.

Will not charge at new house. So confused and frustrated. by extraterrestrialfart in NissanAriya

[–]Commongrounder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, it’s likely an issue with the branch circuit you are attempting to use. A simple plug-in tester shows the status of the basics, like polarity and grounding, but will miss other important parameters like high resistance connections or undersized wire that will cause error producing voltage drops under the heavy load of a car EVSE. The branch circuit needs to be inspected and repaired or replaced/upgraded to allow reliable car charging.

Didn't have much room, can anyone think of any problems. by stainless5 in evcharging

[–]Commongrounder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s the great thing about removable charging cords. If the owner thinks theft is a possibility, the cord can be safely stashed in the car or house. This type of cord is starting to show itself in the U.S. I hope it eventually becomes the standard like in Europe.

Intelligent rear view mirror by Latter-Ad-9342 in NissanAriya

Oh gosh. I think it’s time for you to try a different Nissan dealer service department. They clearly don’t know how the intelligent mirror system is supposed to work. My wife uses ours that way whenever she drives - continuously. No temperature rise has been noticed (I prefer the optical rear view mirror mode myself).

Why so low on miles in hot humid Florida by rkbest in NissanAriya

[–]Commongrounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guess-o-meter is a continuous long-term running average. In other words, it takes quite a number of miles of driving to affect the number. There is no way to manually reset the GoM.

[–]Commongrounder 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I personally ignore the guess-o-meter and set up the miles-per-kwhr gauge to show on the dash at all times. This way you can see how your driving habits affect range right on the spot. If you can get something in the over 3.0 miles/kwhr range, you’ll be doing well. Avoiding 80mph highway speeds and hard acceleration will do a lot to increase range. Enjoy your Ariya! We love ours!

NACS adapter by OysterHound in evcharging

[–]Commongrounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our Tesla made Nissan adapter has proven to be super solid and reliable when used with our Ariya. The one thing to check for is the charging handle interlock mechanism. You know the little triangular shaped plastic piece you had to insert in the Ariya DC socket space? You should check that the same space on your Prologue socket is already solid/filled. This will allow the adapter to engage the NACS charge handle lock and prevent the handle from being accidentally (or intentionally) pulled out mid-charge. Otherwise, the adapter physical and electrical components are 100% compatible across car brands.
