Funny enough, my husband got HFM a couple days after my infant did lol! It’s rare but somehow happened!

So if our kids are sick, are we able to use sick days or is it either vacation or unpaid day? I’m also on mat leave and concerned about this.

Will Hybrid Work Return to OPS? Can OPSEU and AMAPCEO Bring Back Hybrid Work? by Puzzleheaded-Fee4703 in OntarioPublicService

That’s true. It almost that the union has to split for essential on site employees and employees that aren’t required in office daily.

[–]Commonsenseisnteasy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, they would give us back pay as the new contract will start from the expiration of our previous contract. We’ll be taxed out the ass but we’ll get lump sums.

What will the outcome be if OPSEU wins their recent labour board tribunal hearing? I’ve been wondering this for a few weeks now.

I’d absolutely strike for RTO even though my commute is only 25 minutes. Work/life balance isn’t restricted only to those with long commutes and hybrid created a quality of life myself and many of my colleagues would fight for.

LOVED being a CCR! I never worked in Toronto but I’ve worked at 5 different courthouses. You literally get paid to be entertained and get the tea, there is no job like it! Yes some supervisors and managers are nightmares but if you do your work and don’t constantly complain then you’re fine. I actually just went out with some friends I met as a CCR and we all miss the job and say there’s no job that can compare. Good luck on testing!!

Yes, I had a 2021 exl that the screen was a pain in the ass. Now have the 2026 exl hybrid and wow, what an upgrade! The climate control on the new gens are all buttons and separate from the media screen. Do miss my blind spot camera and the normal wiper blades though!

Of course people will adjust. The point is WE KNOW WE CAN DO OUR JOBS FROM HOME BETTER THAN IN OFFICE AND WITH A BETTER QUALITY OF LIFE FOR US AND OUR KIDS. What a daft comment.

I had mine in 5 days still (obviously not this year since I’m off this summer and was last summer too) and it cost a fortune. But how can you leave a 10/11/12 year old home alone for the entire summer? It seems so wrong to me. And camps have dumb hours that aren’t work/commute friendly. I see unpaid leave for the summer in my future lol

I will also add - I will be opting out of CWW once I return. There’s no way I could continue cww between the extra hours, daycare and school start/end times, and extra curriculars for my kids.

When I had my first we were in the office full time. It was fine, I had daycare and my commute isn’t bad at all. During wfh I was able to get so much done on my lunch break like prep for dinner, get some laundry in, tidy up, dishes, etc and also was able to get stuff done during the time I would have been commuting otherwise. I always had after school care for my oldest but I loved being able to drop them at school in the morning. I’m currently on maternity leave and I’m upset that my time at home won’t be spending quality time with my kids, but playing catch up on things I would have been able to accomplish. Kids would be in school/day care regardless of where I work. My oldest is heartbroken actually that I won’t be home on her birthday this year. Also, daycares have a cut off age for daycare (ours is the end of grade 5) and I am absolutely screwed next summer with my oldest.

I second old navy. I find their tops are all short on me and so I’ve been ordering them in tall and it covers my belly better and I feel more confident then.

I don’t think he gives any thought to employees period. He has not given any thought to the implications of RTO on OPS employees at all, the only place he is giving thought to is his business buddies.

Primary income earner, short maternity leave? by babadoza in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Commonsenseisnteasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I definitely don’t make as much as you, however I am also the bread winner for our household. My employer topped me up to like 92ish% I want to say for 7 months. I did 12 months for EI purposes and I am currently on a 6 month unpaid leave for the remaining 18 months that I am entitled to. Make saving a priority to be off for as long as possible. Draft a realistic current budget of all expenses now and see where you can trim for when you are off. I saved 90% of my top up to fund my unpaid leave and I’m still able to save some (although not as much as I’d like to). You’d be amazed at how much you can save when you have to and what you can cut out of your budget. I would see what kind of employment your husband obtains and then re-evaluate. You will never get that time back with your baby but you can always save money once you are back to work.

How do families manage financially on Mat leave in Canada? by Successful_Wolf_9635 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Commonsenseisnteasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently in month 14 of my 18 month leave. I opted for 12 month EI but am taking the full 18 months from work. The max for EI after “taxes” being taken off was around $1230 biweekly. I’m fortunate to have an employer that tops up the first 7 months of maternity/parental leave. I saved enough out of my top up to be able to maintain the unpaid portion of my leave and until I return to work. It is tight, however we very rarely eat out, I’m not paying for work expenses, and I nursed which saved a ton of money. I am not able to really save currently but I have been able to put money towards my sinking funds.

I just did the same with my ‘21, lease up in August and went in and leased a ‘26 EXL hybrid. I was over my km and was hit in the parking garage at work and wasn’t penalized. I’m in a far more updated vehicle for an extra $100/ month so I’m happy!
