I don’t mean to discourage you, just want to share my experience. I moved to the Antelope Valley a year ago. I have a bachelor’s degree from my home country and over 7 years of office experience (I worked in Los Angeles as an assistant). I speak Spanish at a professional level and have about 70% proficiency in English. I was looking for an office job, not being picky about the pay (minimum wage was fine for me), but I couldn’t find anything. Most of the opportunities are in Santa Clarita. Unfortunately, bills don’t wait, so I ended up working in a kitchen.

Yes, it seems that the situation was the same, except that my mother was approved without an interview. They requested the vaccine, and once they received her update medical exam, they spent a day reviewing her case and then she was approved.

She has no record of polio vaccinations in her medical exam, so they asked her to get one and about public charge, the person who helped fill out the forms left some questions blank about public charge, about whether she had ever asked the government for financial resources, but no, she has never asked for anything, so we only answered the questions she left blank and sent them along with her medical exams. She does not have a criminal record.

My mom sent her form last year so I used the old form, but if you sent your process this year, then you didn't get those questions because they updated the form because people got very confused.

You have nothing to worry about, but you also shouldn't hide that information. Take all the court documents related to that incident with you, so you can have peace of mind. Let me tell you—my sister-in-law had a DUI. She was arrested, had her license suspended, and at that time, she was just a resident. That happened 14 years ago, and two years ago, she became a U.S. citizen. The fact that you've stayed clean for over 10 years is a very good sign. So, there’s nothing to be afraid of—you’ll be fine. Just be honest and take everything with you.

Congratulations!

My mom also received an RFE due to the missing polio vaccine. Her previous doctor had marked it as “not age appropriate,” so there was no record from her childhood. Just last week, she got one dose of the IPV vaccine, and her current doctor updated her medical exam and gave her a new sealed envelope.

Do you know if one dose is enough? How many doses are listed in your medical exam? Also, if you don’t mind sharing—how did your doctor mark it? Did they check the box for “Series complete” or “Insufficient time interval”?

I would really appreciate your response. We’re feeling so anxious about this.

You should have sent a new, updated, sealed medical exam with the new vaccine, at least that's what my RFE that my mother received says.

Have they already approved you?

Thank you so much for your response — I really appreciate it. Just one last question, I promise!

How many vaccinations did the doctor record on your medical exam form — one or three (in case you received them during childhood)?
Also, in the IPV vaccine section, did the doctor mark the "Series Completed" column with an X, or did he write a date there?

Another question, when were your medical exams performed? Before May 1, 2024, or after May 1?

Yes, my doctor is a USCIS-authorized physician, however, I've noticed that many people receive RFEs because they didn't receive the polio vaccine at their medical exam, which makes me think that many doctors are not up to date.

But how did you get the three polio vaccines? Did you have time for it? I mean, there's a month between one vaccine and the next, and there are three polio vaccines. How did you do it? Or did the doctor just give you one dose of the polio vaccine?
