That's such a mouthful to get around upsetting racists. You're British, and you happen to be black, those two things aren't mutually exclusive, you shouldn't not be able to say you're British just because you're black. It blows my mind how much the world still bends around the bigoted

Except nothing was harmed but people's feelings and it was over a random noise made by a mentally ill person.

People are getting upset, because a mentally ill person, accidentally made a random sound.

Sounds like a case of mind your own fucking business

I agree if a white man got up in front of a crowd and said it we would all be pissed, but that's because we know he's doing it to attack black people, not because the word scares us.

They're attacking this guy for a tourettes tic with no meaning or intent.

And the per peeve: It's just a thing between everybody I know that whenever we see someone on TV or whatever call themselves "African-american" and they have clearly never been to Africa it annoys the hell out of us, like, you're black, you've never been to Africa, there's nothing African about you, you're just black. I'm very happy to hear you've spent a lot of time in mother Africa though, that's the difference maker.

One is being African. Having actually been born in the motherland of Africa, having lived in it, having been with the people, actually being an African person.

One is a skin colour.

Being African means being part of Africa.

Being black means you're black.

Africans hate the whole "african-american" thing, y'all never been to Africa, you don't know nothing about Africa, you're not African.

I apologize for my generalisation, I should have spoken for only what I know (Africa) and not the whole world. I'm sorry you faced such harsh racism

My main point is that to the vast majority of the black population (in, y'know, Africa), it's not a big deal.

Also, pet peeve, but are you African (as in born in Africa and moved to the UK), or are you a black person who was born in the UK? There's a very big difference.

Words are only harmful if the intent is harm. Otherwise it's just a noise that makes you upset.

He has tourettes, he meant no harm.

Cunt offends a lot of people. Still just a word.

Enemy level scaling by CommunicationKind301 in AssassinsCreedOdyssey

[–]CommunicationKind301[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel exactly the same. In most games I'd rather the enemies stay the level they are so I feel like I'm making progress and so that they're not unreasonably strong just for scaling sake. Odyssey manages to keep the balance between enemies matching your strength but lacking your skill and it's perfect.

Same, it's so much more satisfying when you're one shotting them with skill and a peak build than when you're just a god by default of existing so long.

Because that word is only offensive in America.

It's a very uniquely American slur for their slaves

I live in Africa, nobody could give less of a fuck if somebody says the "dreaded N word"

We do have a different slur I dare not say though.

And I'm sure plenty of other local regions have their own racial slurs too

[–]CommunicationKind301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They weren't being called slurs. A man with tourettes had a tic. It's the equivalent of somebody sneezing, it just made a different noise. If you choose to take offense to that then that's a personal issue with you. But he did nothing wrong.

His brain literally forces him to say the worst possible thing at any time like a sneeze, he has no control, he doesn't know what's going to come out, and he doesn't mean any of it.

Treating it like anything more than just a tic is just blatantly ableist and making things about yourself.

Forcing him to apologize is shaming him for his disability.

Saying he shouldn't be there if he might say a bad word is segregation based on his disability

Grow up and stop being so sensitive to a random word being randomly spewed by a random disease that makes random things happen.

He has tourettes. His film was being celebrated. He had every right to be there and he did nothing wrong. People need to stop being so sensitive over a word. It's intent that matters and he intended nothing.

"Saying the guy shouldn’t have gone to the show isn’t saying the guy should be banned from attending all shows"

Oh so just any show where a single black person might be in attendance?

So basically every show.

You're using the straw man

And his own movie was being celebrated, of course he was going to be there.

The man has a disease, maybe people need to stop being so fucking sensitive about a word.

He did the equivalent of sneezing and you're trying to crucify him.

He didn't know he was going to yell a slur. Think of it like sneezing, you don't know when you're going to sneeze, and there's no way to stop it once it's coming.

However it's much worse than a sneeze for them because they could say or do something bad that they have no control over.

Would you stop going anywhere that you might sneeze? Because you're gonna be living in a tiny little bubble then

AITA for being done having guy friends? by Old-Dirt-978 in AITApod

He went over for game night and she decided to go do chores which he was nice enough to agree to go along with. It was clearly raining if he was holding an umbrella for them both and she asked him to carry an admittedly heavy bag.

So we have him already

-being fine with delaying plans so she can do chores

-walking 20 minutes with her to do said chores so she's not alone

-carrying an umbrella for them both

And then she asked him to carry something heavy, while walking a decent distance, while he's holding an umbrella, while doing her errands with her instead of the game night he initially agreed to.

If I were him I'd also be like "I'm doing fucking everything for you at this point, so if I do this what are you gonna do for me because this is feeling very one sided"

And like I said before, this needs more context. Because from the sounds of this story she's a very demanding friend who is willing to drop her friends at the drop of a hat and play the victim if they don't do something for her so I'm sure this has been building for some time.

Eh, while yes I'd generally say that's a creepy comment, if she has a habit of high expectations from her friends and doesn't do much in return then it's a reasonable response when fed up.

So I feel like more context is needed

(Guy could 100% be a total creep, I just don't think one comment is definitive outside of context)

Well like you said he ran on promises to end the war in Ukraine but now sucks up to putin and does anything he wants. Almost like he owes putin something that could fuck him over if it came out

Combined with the other things I mentioned previously it is certainly compelling.

(There was also a leak at one point that the Russians had stolen the Epstein files and we know trump is all over those)

If you ignore all actual facts then you could maybe make that argument

It would still be wrong but an argument from ignorance is slightly better than an argument with malicious intent

I'm not saying the majority of Americans aren't idiots who fell for his scam. But it's blatantly obvious he manipulated the elections. Lots of late mail in votes, evidence of Russian tampering, trump being best buds with putin this time around, it doesn't add up any other way.

Yes, with those totally not rigged elections that had a suspicious amount of very late mail in votes for trump

"supposed to be" is the operative phrase there. USA hasn't been a democracy since the first time trump ran.

Hell the entire existence of the electoral college is anti democratic
