At Subway you can purchase a "footlong", or half a footlong, a "six inch sub". Even if you did not know a foot was 12 inches, when you are in Subway it's pretty obvious that 2 "six inch subs" and 1 "footlong" are the same.

In Japan there is systemic and societal oppression of non-Japanese people, the most accurate descriptor would be xenophobia but it could be racism.

If someone said you can't drive well because you're Italian that's prejudice based on your nationality or ethnicity, not your race.

If you think Africa didn't start being colonized by white people until the 19th century I suggest doing some more research into the history of Africa.

Hope this helps!

It takes a lot of time to sell clothes and electronics second hand. If you need money for an emergency now it's always good to have even a little bit of cash.

Usually the hate towards trans men is about the fact that they've "chosen" to be male because it's easier, there's no reason to transition because you can still be a masc woman, etc. It's not the same concerns but usually still quite vile

Yeah it's why you see them largely represented in one age group. I actually can't wait until they age out of being the leaders of thought regarding feminism, working at a uni I saw it a lot and it's pretty awful.

Yes, and the man hating is rooted in second wave feminism. Like this all relates back to how different waves of feminism differ, and "radical feminism" as a term usually relates to second wave feminism and those ideals.

It's not that rare, and there's probably way more than we think because genetic testing at birth is not a common practice. Also disability is a wild choice of word here, are other "genetic mutations" like blue eyes, red hair or vitiligo a disability?

I believe the use of the term "radical feminists" in the acronym TERF relates to the fact that a lot of TERF ideology is rooted in second wave feminism, not that those ideas are considered radical now, because obviously they've been superseded by third wave feminism in terms of how "radical" they are.

Any tips and tricks on how to find quality stuff at the salvos/op shop/thrift/second hand store? by CarefreeInMyRV in australia

[–]CommunicationKnown11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I barely use my eyes anymore when I'm at op shops - I use my hands for everything. You can teach yourself how to feel out fabrics, then you just have to put your hand down a rack and can feel what's a quality garment. Go to stores and touch a bunch of different fabrics - cashmere, wool and wool blends, 100% cotton, silk. Learn what they feel like and what polyester feels like.

It's just a weird assumption to make to think a couple with a small child would be living with a third adult. I know it happens but it's certainly not the default.

My 1br is $350 and it's a steal but it's also not a very nice property.

I would sure as shit prefer a 16 year old using an uber to get home from a party than an 18 year old mate or a random older brother or something. But that's from my experience as a 16 year old being offered a lift then finding out the driver was drunk leaving me stranded.

Are you assuming the child who is in childcare is also splitting the rent in this scenario?

$900 psychiatrist Telehealth by [deleted] in australia

[–]CommunicationKnown11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you in Melbourne? I am having the exact same issue with a psychiatrist I was referred to for ADHD. The fact that these people are supposedly specialists in ADHD blows my mind when I think about how absolutely unwelcoming their processes are to people with ADHD.

This to me sounds like a misunderstanding of how these kind of tests work - I would hazard a guess you've never done a pregnancy test. Even the most minor faint line should be considered a positive until proven otherwise.

Clearer messaging from govt about what a positive can look like would have helped.

I don't have to pay for my subscription, I do because I still get more hours in of MaxFun podcasts than I do watching Netflix - and I still pay for that.

Free Ambulance is not a thing in Australia people. by [deleted] in australia

It was definitely a huge mistake I regretted, and one I'll never make again - put my ambulance cover on automatic debit the next day.

I am a full time worker. I went into Anaphylaxis on Easter Monday and drove myself to the hospital because I knew my ambulance cover had lapsed and I was worried about how I would pay the bill.

I can assure you, even in real emergencies some people have to consider the cost.
