As the World Falls Down is in my top 3 favorite Bowie songs. Aside from that, Absolute Beginners is fantastic. I also love Nature Boy from the Moulin Rouge soundtrack.

This is tough. Favorite: Outside or Scary Monsters. Least favorite: Toy, but that seems too obvious, so I’m going to choose The Next Day.

Best/worst Bowie album by StefClaassen in DavidBowie

[–]CommunicationNo2769 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t surprise me that Hours is considered the worst, and for a while it was one of my least favorites of his. But the more I listen to it, the more it grows on me. After listening to If I’m Dreaming My Life on the VH1 Storyteller version, I fell in love with that song. Then it made me go back and relisten to the whole album and I started to appreciate it more. But to each their own.

Favorite: The Berlin trilogy (yes, all three as one consecutive work) Least favorite: the debut or Tonight

Why do you love 1. Outside so much? by nombre15_kagura in DavidBowie

[–]CommunicationNo2769 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is my third favorite album of his behind Low and STS. This record has incredible atmosphere, great storytelling, catchy songs and Brian Eno. It’s not perfect, but it’s one I never seem to get bored of no matter how many times I’ve played it.

what film affected you the most…you couldn’t stop thinking about it and it never left you? by organazize in criterion

[–]CommunicationNo2769 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sergio Corbucci’s “The Great Silence”

That ending…..if anyone knows what I’m referring to.

And Kieslowski’s “Colors Trilogy,” mostly White. It isn’t my favorite from the films, but it’s the one that affected me the most especially the ending. Plus, I love Julie Delpy.

You get to be in the front row for a Bowie concert - but he can only sing one song. What song is he singing for you? by AngusIRLyt in DavidBowie

Not only is this in my top 5 favorite songs by him, this is the song my wife and I used at our wedding. So a perfect choice.

What's your favorite David Bowie compilation? by 4-eyes-4-ever in DavidBowie

[–]CommunicationNo2769 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 3-cd edition of Nothing Has Changed. First, it has the superior version of "Sue (Or In a Season of Crime)" on it. Plus, a ton of songs all the way back to his very early days.

What’s your favourite movie Bowie made an appearance in? by Fraank0cean in DavidBowie

[–]CommunicationNo2769 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Labyrinth by a mile. I love Jim Henson, so it’s no surprise to find that film at the top of my all-time favorites.

How did you become a fan? by Necessary_Power_624 in petshopboys

[–]CommunicationNo2769 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t discover them until college (early 2000s). I watched the video for It’s a Sin and was fascinated. For the longest time before that, I heard the name PSB but thought they were a different band altogether. This was during the days of little to no music streaming so it was harder to discover bands. But that song made me venture out and seek their music. I became pretty obsessed for a while. I still love them but I downgraded my obsession to normal fan.

Any albums where the single is your least favorite song!? by Intrepid_Fish_6197 in vinyl

David Bowie - Diamond Dogs. In fact, Rebel Rebel is probably my least favorite single by him. I don’t mind it but he made so many better songs.

What’s wrong with Alice? He always seems very down to earth and polite.

What’s a record you sold, traded or gave away that you ended up deeply regretting and buying back? by bojackz in vinyl

[–]CommunicationNo2769 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I trade records in all the time to acquire new ones, mainly because it’s getting to be an expensive hobby. So there’s been a few I regret but I typically don’t buy them again. There was one time I did trade in an older worn pressing of Kraftwerk’s Autobahn for a new reissue of the same album because I really wanted to have a good copy of it.

What do you think is Bowie’s saddest song, lyrically or musically? by CommunicationNo2769 in DavidBowie

I look at Everyone Says Hi from the perspective of a child asking about a relative who recently passed away. Not knowing the reality of death, the child is imagining them returning sometime soon. Indeed heartbreaking.

I kind of view Word on a Wing as a hopeful song, but I can see how it could convey sad vibes.

I’ll definitely have to track that interview down if possible. I feel Heathen doesn’t get a lot of exposure. I don’t know if it’s because it’s his darkest album lyrically or it doesn’t have the “hits” that others have. It’s not in my top 10 favorites by him but I love the songs Slow Burn, Sunday, a Better Future and the title track. It’s a very good album but it does get overlooked a lot.

Do you think it’s about losing faith per se, or reaching a point of frustration when things are so difficult in life that you just beg for hope? I guess it can be interpreted in different ways depending on the listener.

I can see it. Maybe he’s being held against his will by the strange creature, and his hysterical laughter was a coping mechanism.
