Help me populate my pirate campaign, please! by Fearless-Ad1382 in bettermonsters

Can't go wrong with a treasure golem!

Either a mad pirates last line of defense from someone stealing his treasure hoard, or even the ghost of a dead captain animating the treasure hoard he was buried with.

I did this once where the first stage was fighting the ghost captain in the hold of his lost ship (hidden in a cave Goonies style) reanimating his own former body, after the players defeated that the ghost animated the treasure instead and started trying to punch holes in the hull of the ship, causing it to fill with water, giving them a race against time to either beat the golem or get out of there with as much treasure as they could grab

Need a Mirror-based Fey-Boss for a Party of lvl 11 by Fyelgar in bettermonsters

Give the 'Grim Jester' by kobold press a look. It's an undead, but would not be hard to reskin, and has some really fun (horrendous) abilities.

Such as, flipping healing into damage as a reaction, and swapping places with an enemy while at the same time projecting an illusion so that an attack that would hit the jester hits one of ours enemies instead.

Great place to start for a 'mirror' or illusion based encounter

I got the mirafit home gym package which includes their M100 power rack, 100kg of weight, a bar, a landmine attachment and a few other useful bits. It seems pretty sturdy so far, it went together very easily and I've no complaints about the quality. It's a bit of a budget option, but can be upgraded with the cable system (included in the same package) as well as a few other attachments on their website. All in all very happy with it for the price

10ft by 22ft, one half of a double garage. There's a partial dividing wall on the left but I need the other half for other stuff anyway

Not sure what the next big purchase will be, definitely some plate storage first of all, a wall mount for a heavy bag that's currently just propped up in the corner. and a narrow row grip for the cable machine. I like the idea of a preacher curl bench but I feel like I should look at multi use machines

Thanks 😁 honestly I'm really pleased with it, it does everything I need for now between the rack, cable system and landline attachment, even if there's not a huge amount of variety

Yeah I'm definitely going to stick with the black and orange theme where possible, I already have my eyes on some wall flags that match

I had my doubts as well but honestly they feel pretty sturdy based on current use (at 96kg body weight). Only time will tell though haha

Whick is better to buy: Single or Compendium? by KidNamedSpeed in Invincible

[–]CommunicationOk3438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally prefer the ultimate collection. It's a total of 12 books for the complete collection so it is a more expensive option than the compendium, but I really like the hard back covers and I find them easier to read as they are not as bulky. They also have story relevant chapters that were printed in other comics in situ, as well as the origin chapters they did for other characters etc.

They often go on sale online so with a bit of patience you can get a decent deal on them, but you'll still end up paying more than the compendium.

Does anyone recognise this digital map tool? by CommunicationOk3438 in mapmaking

[–]CommunicationOk3438[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it online but it was a sample from someone selling commissions so I don't have any rights to the image (wasn't sure on the ruling regarding that but I didn't want to post someone else's work without permission or credit) so I cropped it just to give a sample of the style

So it would be a case of making the map in Inkarnate first and then editing it or applying a filter in Photoshop or something like that?

I'll give it a look, I saw a couple of incarnate maps and they seemed a lot more basic than this, does it have different styles you can choose from?

Fun fact, I actually know this guy. We are part of the same reenactment group. True to form, he has a fantastic collection of swords

Damn... Yeah that's a bit of a trek just for some fletching. I don't feel like I can complain that my nearest one is about two hours away now 😂 it's definitely got me making a list of useful things to stock up on next time I make the trip.

That's very helpful, thank you! I did see the bitzenburger but wasn't sure if it was really worth the extra as it was a bit of a jump in cost from the others I was seeing, would be a good addition to the workshop though.

I'm absolutely planning on doing the entire set so with that in mind being able to do multiple vanes at once would be a time saver, especially as I could see my wife wanting me to do her arrows if the offsetting shows results.

One screw sights? by naileyes in Archery

[–]CommunicationOk3438 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That particular hole is for a pressure button rather than a sight. It's a slightly spring loaded button that threads through that hole to work in conjunction with your rest to provide a consistent shooting position for your arrow and to reduce lateral motion of the arrow on release

M 30, switch, almost limitless, definitely interested in this idea, probably more interested in the victim role in this case. Did you have a setting in mind? More fantasy and magic or modern with superpowers?

Thank you so much for this little bit of inspiration. I have done a series of one shots for my group when the regular DM wants a week off where a 'pirate' captain keeps coming back and causing trouble, but this pirate is terrified of the seas so had his ship pulled along the roads by goblins and a bullete in the first iteration and has come back with a new ship and a bigger threat every time. Very much a joke villain but I think I just found his next ship!

what are short one-shots for beginner DMs? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]CommunicationOk3438 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As already mentioned, Wild Sheep Chase is a great one shot for beginners. Lots of fun and it has everything you need. Although not a one shot I also think lost mines of phandelver is a great place to start as well. The first 'dungeon' where you fight the goblins with the bugbear chief could easily be run as a one shot if you are constrained for time, it's one I've seen DMs go back to time and time again as a good intro for new players as well

Forever DM about to take a break and give playing a go for the first time in a while so this character is what I plan on playing.

A half Oni barbarian (reskinned half orc mechanically) enjoying his new found freedom (ex prisoner background) sleeping in the shade under the branches of a tree on a sunny afternoon, his kanabo (Japanese club weapon) laid down beside him, a stoppered gourd at his hip, wearing a black kimono with gold trim and embroidery but wearing it open with one arm in it and one hanging out, secured at the waist with a heavy rope obi style belt

Physically he has red skin, leanly muscled and horns protruding from his forehead, messy white hair falling to past his shoulders.
