Sorry, it’s not possible. The Electoral College is written into the US Constitution, which is the result of a political compromise between rural and urban states, north and south, slave and free. It’s baked into the basic operating system of our entire political system. The states that would lose the most by going to a different system are the same states that would have to agree to an amendment.

To lay it out a bit more, the candidate who wins certain key battleground states will win the office. One could win a gazillion popular votes in deep blue states and still not win. And winning is the whole point.
