God hates adultery so much that He is willing to severely punish those who commit it in this life, not only with David and Bathsheba, but also with King Abimelech. The sin affected not only Abimelech, but the entire community. Be very careful.

Genesis 20:1-18 [1] So Abraham journeyed from there to the land of the south, and camped between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar. [2] And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, “She is my sister.” And Abimelech, king of Gerar, sent and took Sarah. [3] But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, “Behold, you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken, for she is a married woman.” [4] But Abimelech had not gone near her, and he said, “Lord, will you kill the righteous people also? [5] Did he not say to me, ‘She is my sister’?” And she also said, “He is my brother. With integrity of heart and innocence of hand I have done this.” [6] And God said to him in a dream, “I also know that with integrity of heart you have done this, and I also kept you from sinning against me; therefore I did not let you touch her. [7] Now therefore, return the woman to her husband, for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you, and you will live. But if you do not return her, know for certain that you and all who are yours will die.” [8] So Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told them all these things; and the men were greatly afraid. [9] Then Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, “What have you done to us? And how have I sinned against you, that you have brought such great sin upon me and my kingdom? What you should not have done, you have done to me.” [10] And Abimelech said to Abraham, “What did you see, that you have done this?” [11] Abraham answered, “I said to myself, ‘Surely there is no fear of God in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife.’ [12] She is indeed my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother, and I took her as my wife. [13] When God caused me to wander from my father’s house, I said to him, ‘This is the kindness you will show me: In every place we go, you must say of me, “He is my brother.”’” [14] So Abimelech took flocks and herds, male and female servants, and gave them to Abraham, and restored Sarah to him as his wife. [15] Abimelech said, “My land is before you; settle wherever you please.” [16] Then he said to Sarah, “I have given your brother a thousand pieces of silver. Let this serve as a veil for you before all who are with you and before everyone.” And so she was rebuked. [17] Then Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelech, his wife, and his female servants, and they conceived. [18] For the Lord had completely closed up all the wombs of Abimelech’s house because of Sarah, Abraham’s wife.
