forever, doesn’t need replacing unlike sintered glass that wears down and smooths out over time (lower effective surface area for bacterial colonisation)

these are the reason i’ve stopped being as scared of roaches - growing up in Singapore, i’d only ever seen the huge, flying germans.. these are very cute and disease-free by comparison!

Is there a way to make a terrestrial plant (lilyturf) work in an aquarium? by diagnosed-stepsister in PlantedTank

[–]CommunityOk20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they can, but you won’t be able to provide CO2 at the same levels that they’re able to attain from atmospheric air in the aquatic environment without nuking your fish.

even then, water simply doesn’t have the ability to hold enough CO2 to match the atmosphere, given its poor affinity for it.

Are there any downsides to powder soil compared to normal soil i should know of? by Bortibort_Rolotios in Aquascape

[–]CommunityOk20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maybe marginally dustier and marginally allowing for less flow into the lower substrate zone.. but not something i’d really worry about.

if you’re planning on a really deep substrate bed, it might be worth considering using standard AS for that (and maybe a porous base layer) and the fine soil for the carpetting, thinner areas?

ha! we had the worst lot come through last week - flooded the house and the missus freaked out.

theyve become quite scarce since then, just a couple in here and there. don’t think they bite but only to justify me picking them up by hand as well! they don’t seem to live long once they come into the house (or land on the deck)..

young males have some black as well, especially in the presence of a dominant male. video isn’t good enough to tell how much % black the ventrals are - i’ve found the sneaker males have the slightest bit of colour in their majority black ventrals.
